5.16: Fail Safe

It was excellent to see the whole team together again!!!
I especially enjoyed the repetitive:
"I'm confident"
"Me too"
"As am I"

Yeah that bit made me laugh.....

And I agree it was great to see the whole team together and off world...I was begining to think it was never gunna happen!!

I think it would have been good if we could get a bit more on the backstory. It would have alowed the story to piece together more easily instead of being thrown together. Like Jack and Danny crashing the Teltak into the Tok'Ra home world. What was up with that? And why are the Tok'Ra on the run again?

Yeah I thought that as well....

I was reading on Scifi guide last night that in fact this episode was shown out of order...it should have been shown in a few weeks time after summit/last stand double bill.
I think the two parter will explain the episode a whole lot better... :D

i was just checking out the piccies at www.p3x595.com and i was wondering - when teal'c and jack get back from planting the bomb (i'm assuming thats what they were doing) sumthing is obviuosly up/wrong. whats is it?

stupid question 876: sam can sense naquadah, even the minute bits in a goauld. that's how she senses another symbiote (first ones) so how come she didn't notice that they were like parked of 50 tons of the stuff?????

i beginning to think that the sgc should start doing what colonol maybournes black ops were doing and just procure what they need to defend earth against the gould because latley the allies of earth havent been helping out much. When ever the tokra need the earths help earth always helps out but when we need their help they've always got some excuse. The asgard may of helped earth become a protected planet but when sg1 tells them about the gould sending that asteroid to earth the gould will deny everything and the asgard will probably sit on thier grey butts and do nothing about it.
so what i think is that the sgc should take a page out of the NID book on how to handle aliens. beacuse the way things are going by the end of this season the earths allies arent gonna be able to help out much.

I have to agree with Prankster. Actually I agreed with Maybourne in 'Shades of Gray'. When Jack said 'we don't need their stuff, we need them' I thought, "oh yeah, for what?". If they're not going to help us, what do we need them for?

About the episode:

Pro:

1. Hammond was great.

2. It was nice to see them get off world for a change.

3. No X-Gate

4. No overt shippiness.

Con:

1. Hackneyed plot.

2. Why is it that Sam, who has spent her life in the physics lab suddenly is a bomb expert? Shouldn't ex-Special-Ops Jack, who has extensive experience with munitions in the field have been able to handle it himself? This is one more example of "Super Sam".

3. Daniel gets the 3rd choice idea, but, "Super Sam" butts in and says it for him.

4. Teal'c basically raised an eyebrow and said "Indeed" a lot.

5. Skydiver has an excellent point about the Naquadah sensing.

6. Is there some rule that AT has to gets her mug in the camera every 30 seconds?

Not the worst episode, but not a particularly good one.

Honestly...... this eppy bored me to tears...... I ended up going back into my beta testing of an online game and stayed there throughout the rest of the eppy. It played away to itself in the corner.

Boring...... boring...... boring........

The smugness of SG1 is overflowing my crapometer at the moment. I can hardly wait for good old Danny to bite the dust....and what a shame they have inferred he might be 'ascending' or whatever....... I want one of them to go out in a blossom of blood and guts. Just so we can all see that they are NOT perfect...or saintly and that they CAN get killed. Or just once I would like to see Saintly Sam turn around in the middle of a crisis and say f***k this.....I'm off to get a life and get laid! God knows she needs it.... In the immortal words of one of the fanfic writers..... her legs are locked together tighter than Fort Knox!

Sorry but this eppy really gripped my guts!
 ;)

Gee Anni, tell us what you really think!

Anyway, as I said it wasn't the worst, that would be a tossup between Divide & Conquer and Entity, but it wasn't good. The best you can say for it is that the plot didn't rip off the X-files for a change (instead they ripped off Armageddon) and Sam and Jack didn't make googly eyes at each other.

Sky,

Yes, What happened that Sam can not sense Naquadah? HOW MANY TONS????? When your story (posted in fan fic) is the best part of the episode.. (just saw it on the tiny steal it screen) Showtime's schedule is the worst thing about this show... next to the major rip offs mentioned.... but the Naquadah thing really riled me!

the writers have a bad habit of giving characters 'powers' then forgetting that they have them. like in rite of passage, teal'c and sam can sense goauld...both are in the same room with a cloaked nirti...and neither sensed her

i've always wondered about them using sam as a gate locator. i mean the gate's made of naquadah....so why can't sam sense it?

they just forget. like in FIAD they tell us danny's b-day is in july yet in 1969 he's 4 1/2 in the summer of 1969.

guess they want to make it easy for us to nitpick it

Jean: glad to see you back. i hear real life has been hectic for you. your presence here has been missed

Thank you, Skydiver!

You would think though that they would for the sake of continuity have someone that would catch these problems before they shot the script! Some of these discontinuities they can drive trucks through with the holes they leave! GRIPE GRIPE GRIPE! I mean if they are too cheap to hire a person with knowledge of the show to do that job of continuity they could just have a list so the mistakes wouldn't be so very very glaring!:angryfire :angryfire :angryfire to the idiots who don't do this properly...think producers!

What was up with the whole "how do we defuse the bomb" scene? It was THEIR bomb! They brought it with them, and you'd think Jack would have brought a copy of "Bomb Handling for Dummies" along.

well I haven't watched Fail Safe yet (that's at lunch today...I finally got them downloaded from the computer) but I did jsut finish watching 48 hrs. Is it just me or shouldn't the gate have had enough power for one dialing even when it's been disconected from the DHD? Isn't that how they got out of Thors ship a few seasons ago?

Jobeth,
Looks as if you are getting in the truck with us! Loved your comment.....

Didn't the Tok'Ra pick up SG-1? Are they still fleeing after Summit?

i liked this ep!! it was such a cahnge from the usuall missions, but i thought jack cud have said more when he was about to cut that last wire something a little more sam and jack?? lol

Ya, why didnt' Jack know more about the bomb? You'd think he'd have some knowledge as to which wires to cut instead of blindly guessing. That seems dumb. But I like how Jack keeps refering to "the movie" asuming he ment one of those movies like Armagedon....'OK, this didn't happen in the movie' At least they acknowledge where they got the idea from. Didn't understand how it could go through Earth though

ok anni, are you sitting down? cause i'm sorta agreeing with you. i mean the pic i've seen is a teltac on the asteroid with two spacesuited folks seemingly planting a bomb on a FRED...ok now all together....ARMAGEDDON REMAKE!!!!

i mean i'm sure i'll enjoy it and maybe there's more to it but...

hey, looking on the bright side, it's a new eps....

OK, I know I'M late on this one but I just watched... Yes, I'm one of the unlucky people who have to wait eternity before seeing the end of season 5. I managed to download Fail Save recently though...

That was... Strange. I was so hoping they wouldn't fall into the Armageddon cliché! Dang, they fell! and hard! I think that'S the first time I don't like an episode that much...

It least, Jack was kinda cute with that space suit!!!! ( sorry, I couldn't help the Jack comment! I just love him, whatever he does!!!)

I agree with the comments that recently the allies of Earth tend to dissapear when the Earth is in problems and in need of help. And about the Tokra always getting their help from Earth. But a point to them, they get to the scene late but their the ones always helping Earth lately of all the allies. The Asgards are really a big dissapointment much similar to the politics on earth. That is why one of my favorite parts is at the beginning of the episode when Daniel says how the Jack and the Asgard reunion end. Also love the constant references of Jack to the movie, and the agreement thing between all of them as some has mention before in this post. Also it was good to see something different as a mission, only that this story is very used in movies etc and it will be cool to see some other thing hitting earth and not the usual asteroid. :(

Anyway I enjoy the episode
:p

Krystal

so how is it they can go through Earth? without harming Earth?
