I really liked the first hour or so of Fellowship - the way we see the Shire, and the invasive terror of the Nazgul is just superb. Favourite part of the entire trilogy, actually, as there's so much character in it, and the platform for all that follows is firmly shaped.

Also loved seeing the RingWraiths in ROTK - flying on those creatures was a very impressive visual effect - not least scooping up the riders and scatternig them frmo the air. Truly great - I'll definitely buy the ROTK extended edition just to see moer of them. :)

I really enjoyed the scenes where Gollum was arguing with himself in the second film. I also like the battle scene in the last film where Eowyn defends her fallen uncle.

There are so many... Any fight involving Aragorn. He rules (literally. I am such a dork.....)

For me, the most triumphant moment in all of the movies is when Eowyn kills the Witch-king. I cackled when she stabbed him in the face, then twisted the blade. (Let's not forget her hacking his mount's head off with TWO SWIPES. That makes up for her excrutiating singing scene in the extended version of the Two Towers)

Hmm, I have to say in Return of the King EE... well that scene with Faramir and Pippin? That was so sweet, funny, cool, touching, etc etc that that was definitely my favorite scene!

This is a really hard question, there are so many good scenes in the movies. I liked the first introduction to the Shire, I thought it was lovely.

I thought the introduction of The Two Towers with the white mountains and Gandalf fighting the Belrock was brilliant. What a start to a movie :D Much better than the start to ROTK.

The death scene for Borimire was good too. There are too many really.

I love when Gandalf and Frodo are riding through the Shire in the cart, and all that beautiful pastoral setting keeps rolling past, so that you get a sense that it IS a real little farming community where somebody lives, rather than just a couple of streets on a back lot somewhere. I love Gandalf setting off the fireworks for the children, and the ship he makes out of pipesmoke at Bilbo's party.

I love the Black Riders, who all through FOTR just got scarier the more I saw of them, and Aragorn's fight with them at Amon Sul. Also Gandalf on the bridge (a favorite book moment which did NOT disappoint), and Boromir beginning to fall under the spell of the Ring up on Caradrhas, and Boromir's death scene.

In TTT, I love how beautiful Edoras is with the mountains behind it, and Gollum's schizoid conversations, and the ringwraith coming over the wall at Osgiliath (I don't care that Frodo and Sam shouldn't really be there at all -- I was glad of an excuse to visit the place). I love Arwen's vision of Aragorn's funeral. I love Faramir saying, "Well then, it is forfeit." (His delivery just breaks my heart.) I especially love watching the Ents tear Saruman's machinery and his dam apart.

In ROTK, the lighting of the beacons. Pippin's song. Gandalf and Pippin riding through the streets of Minas Tirith. All the so-called "false endings," yup, every one of them, and most of all Sam's homecoming at the very end.

I loved the ride of the rohirrim "make safe this city!!"
good stuff ;)

also liked the firework scene in fellowship were we meet merry & pippin

The lighting of the first of the beacons made me feel sort of triumphant and 'I stick my tongue out at you, Denethor', but the scene after where each of them is lit in turn made me cry how beautiful it was...

And the scene at Aragorn's coronation where he tells the hobbits 'You bow to no one'...makes me sniffle every time I see it...

The scene just after Gandalf falls in Fellowship, the way PJ deals with all their different forms of grief. 'Give them a moment, for pity's sake...'

When Boromir dies. 'My brother ... My captain ... My king.' Boromir was by far my favourite character in the films - though he wasn't in the books - and I think thats thanks to Sean Bean's brilliant performance.

Edoras.

The lighting of the beacons.

The Ride of the Rohirrim. When I first saw this in the theatre, I wanted to jump up and scream a warcry of my own. Absolutely stirring stuff. The way movies should be.

Gimli blowing at the ghostly hands reaching for him- cracked me up totally!

Frodo and Sam looking at eachother after the whole thing is over. PRICELESS! It's the scene where Frodo wakes up in Rivendell

Aragorn any time he sang, and Pippin too.

Too many others to mention.

My favourite part in the trilogy is in RTOK, and i belive its the last battle when Aragorn says: "For Frodo" with a tears in his eyes then charges to all the Orcs, then the two hobbits charge and then the rest of the fellowship follow.

Call me sad but sometimes when watching that scene i get goosebumbps lol

Favorite moments:

Pippin's song. Absolutly wonderful

Legolas and Gimli's drinking contest (ROTK-EE) An elf outdrinking a dwarf?

Too many more favorite moments to mention.

I loved the Gollum moment when he had a conversation with himself at the pool. A very well executed scene with great acting.

The whisper of the Ring as it lies on the table at Bag End. Gandalf and Frodo both look momentarily startled by it. Chilling stuff.

Other favourites are the Boromir's "Such a strange fate...." speech when he picks the ring up out of the snow and feels it calling him.

The grief stricken emergence from the mines Moria. Lovely lovely sad music there.

Passing the Argonath in the elven boats and the look of wonder in Aragorn's eyes.

The whole Paths of the Dead adventure starting from when Aragorn peers into the narrow road between the rocks and half sees the ghost king. Great tension all the way through. You can feel the fear.

Sam Gamgee's determined charge up inside the orc tower to rescue Frodo. "......And that's for my old Gaffer!". Captures the character's spirit so well.

The whole interaction between Pippin and Denethor; especially the hauntingly sad song over Faramir's men in their slow motion charge. Poignant stuff.

Far too many more favourite moments to list them all.

The eagle Gwaihir coming out of the gloom behind Saruman to rescue Gandalf and the look on Gandalf's face when he see's the moth messenger return.
The torn banner of Rohan as it lies in the grass in front of Edoras.
Wormtongue's expression as he looks at Eowyn.
Shadowfax's arrival.
Theoden's pre battle recital.
Shelob sneaking up behind Frodo (nearly made me jump out of my seat!)
The eagles suddenly appearing out of the firestorm to rescue Frodo and Sam.
Frodo's last look back on his friends at the Havens.

Magic stuff, all of it.
Karen :)

Tooooooooooo many good moments in each film! so a small selection:

Fellowship

  • "you cannot pass" - Gandalf fighting the balrok.
  • The ring wraiths 'killing' the hobbits in the prancing pony and aragorns explanation of who they are in the fellowship (which is also my fave moment in the Ralph Bakshi cartoon version)
  • Boromir being corrupted by the ring and his death scene.
Two Towers
  • "Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin...and a red dawn!!!" WICKED moment, gets me all excited haha.
  • Gollum arguing with himself.
Return of the king
  • Gandalf and Pippen ride out to face the wraiths with wings.
  • Gandalfs little bit at the end of the film to the hobbits "My friends...You bow to no one"
  • The almost burning of Faramir and Denethors death.
:D

Some great scenes in that first film! Not too sure about the others. Anyway:

- The Gandalf-Bilbo scenes in Bag End, culminating with frog-eye perspective of Gandalf over the Ring, in silence.
- Nazgûl riding out of Mordor
- The first encounter with the Nazgûl, minus that special perspective effect. That scene would have been perfect without it; the wail in the air, the sight of the path, the wave of rustling leaves approaching Frodo. Pretty much everything is great for a while from then on. Anyway:
- Nazgûl riding towards Bree; moon is behind a tree, unseen, with light beams radiating from the tree.
- Nazgul entering the Prancing Pony, Butterbur behind the door crying with fear.
- Nazgûl approaching Weathertop
- Bilbo's "greedy face" scene in Rivendell. Nice old man turning into a monster for a split second. It really startled me.

- The beacon scene in RotK. And, yes, the music was right.

I had a favourite part that made me shiver all over, i cant remember it exactly but it had Aragorn and he was encourging his men and leading them to fight, i think it was either TTT at Helms Deep or somewhere in RotK
