Favourite moments in the films?

I absolutely loved to death the scene of the crossing of the scene, the deed was done and nothing else was about to happen, and yet I just didn;t want them to leave :(

I also loved the battle of Pellenor fields. It was just so epic!

BBC Radio version (incl. Ian Holm - 1970's) : Faramir's conversation with Frodo and Sam, the original conversation about "quality" of character. I mourn its loss in Jackson's movies...
In The Fellowship : Bilbo struggling to release the ring (you can see the strain in his fingers as he turns his palm) and then, after he has gone, when Gandalf reaches down for the ring, his fingers hovering over it and it appears to me that there is a flicker of a touch... and the soundtrack along with it!!! Phew, the tension!
And many a scene previously mensioned (apart from Gollum's schitzophrenia - irritating, gah, sorry!)

Anything with Galadriel in it ('If you cannot find a way, no one will,' 'I will diminish and past into the West and remain Galadriel').

Gimli running ('I'm wasted on long distances, Dwarves are natural sprinters, very fast over short distances').

The conversation after the first battle ('We cannot obtain victory through strength of arms.' 'No, but we can give Frodo a chance').

Almost any scene with Gandalf in ('You shall not pass!').

I loved all the films bought them on dvd and again when the specil extended versions came out in a box set I quickly snapped them up as well! My favoret moment in the films? Its got 2 be The Two Towers when they are fighting for the keep, oh and I loved the scenes with Legolas and the dwarf (cannot for the life of me remember if his name is Gimly or not) competing against each other and there friendship blossoming, very sweet.

You have a point there eradius, the films are definitly too long but they are good once in a while, If you skip most of the talking and walking, then its brilliant

But the best scene has to be the battle for minas tirith

The scene I enjoyed the most was Gollum's conversation with himself. Totally hilarious:D

Otherwise its really hard to pick a scene that really stands out. I found all three movies really mind-blowing. I had also never read the books, so everything was a surprise for me as I watched them.:)

Every moment was special to me, but the oliphaunts in film 3 were a definite standout. I guess it's the AT-AT fixation all over again!

I'll add:

Scene of a black rider against the moonlight in the hobbits flight to the ford.
When the Hobbits are hiding under a tree root and a black rider gets off the horse and starts to sniff around the base of the tree. The size perspective there was great!!
Battle at weathertop.
Gandalf's fight with the Balrog in the mines of moria.
Fight with the rock troll in the mines of moria.
Battle with the Ents at Isengard and the Ents themselves.
Battle against the Warg riders on the way to the safety of Helm's Deep.
Battle of Helm's Deep including Gandalf leading the horsemen down the hillside on the dawning of the fifth day to break the enemy lines.
Battle of Gondor/Minas Tirith including the Oliphants.
Army of the undead led by Aragon.
Frodo's departure from Middle Earth.

Just a few of the scenes I enjoyed on a visual level......

Oh, I'm going to have to go home and watch the films all over again after reading all this.

My favourite moments? (I'm going to have to edit this later...)

Bilbo's birthday party when Merry and Pippin set off the Dragon firework (FoTR)
The moment when everyone at Sauron's gates realises that Frodo has accomplished his task and Merry and Pippen rush forward first (RoTK)

Pippins song for Denethor (TT/RoTK ~ what a flousey I am ~ I can't remember which film it was.)

And I agree with Vodstok ~ that was an absolutley wonderful moment for Eowyn in RoTK when she killed the Wraith. I was swinging the blade along with her. I always thought it a shame that more wasn't made of Eowyns story in the film given how much women are under-represented in Tolkein. sniff.

any battle by a hobbit...

the dwarf tossing ( especially the remarks before, during and after)

the drinking contest

and Helms deep.
And the Rohirrim.

I like most of the films, but I hated most of the singing, and , In my opinion, the end is too much of a Tearjerker ( sniff, sniff, )

FellowShip of the Ring - Gandalf's battle with the Balrog. Way cool!

Two Towers - any scene with TreeBeard and I loved the Warg attack. I also loved the Battle at Helm's Deep.

Return of the King - the scene where Gandalf the White confronts Sarumon for the last time and Sarumon gets impailed - gross! I also love the scene with the Mouth of Sauron (makes me quesy and laugh at the same time - kinda hard to explain :D )

Fellowship: 'Epilogue' and The setting of the Shire.

Two Towers: Gollum's conversations with himself.

RotK: Mouth of Sauron and the story of Sméagol turning into Gollum.

Overall: All the scenes with Liv Tyler :D:D

Two towers -
Aragorn just before the battle of Helms Deep when he pulls out his sword
Gimli winning the killing spree between him and Legolas
Return of the King -
When Merry and Pippin run out in front of the army at the Black Gate
When the Dead run over the (Big elephant thing, I don't know how to spell it:eek:)

I knew that someone would know it.
My sister is very disapointed in me... she was just giving me a REALLY long lecture about the history of Middle Earth (for three hours):(

I agree on those. Bruce Spence did an awesome job with the Mouth of Sauron. Remember him? He was the pilot of the flying jalopy in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Reading that scene in the book though, poed me off, when he taunts Gandalf with the mithril shirt, because I didn't know what happened to Frodo yet.

I only knew it when I saw the appendices that come with the extended versions in the fancy DVD box. I recognized when they interviewed him, but wouldn't have ever guessed it when just watching the movie.

ummm .... where is the edit button? I am logged in ...
I only wanted to say that psychogirl reminded me of another of my fav bits in the films ... when Merry and Pippen are guarding Isenguard, smoking all the weed and munching apples ... oh, to be a happy hobbit
