They sat up there and told us Daniel was going to be written out of the SG-1 team in season six to allow MS to part with the show and do other projects he's interested in. We all sat there waiting for the "No, I'm kidding! ha ha ha!" That didn't come. Not all weekend did you hear the Vancouver Richmond Inn auditorium so quiet. We'd just spent three fablous days asking every question we liked to the stars and seen a charity auction reputably even more wild than last year and the producer drops this on us! Yes, Daniel is being written out another to take his place for season six. I'm almost thinking they should have keep that one in the bag and let us leave the con on a joyous note. But, cons are where you get the dirt.
Our "dirt" in the US is that the DVDs might not be in stores at Christmas. Why in region one get only season one DVDs and region 2 gets everything past season four already and special DVDs of materials is a deep thorn in everyone's mind here. And the companion book is still delayed in the states according to the author. No one here knows jack about anything in why all this is so. No wonder MGM kept a low profile, six hundred people would have given them some pretty sticky questions at the panels. It would not have been pretty. MGM has no clue that people would pay just about anything to have DVDs of the eps RIGHT NOW. Just about all the fans are praying that someone at SCIFI Channel knows more about marketing and can convince MGM to do it right by next year. Write early and often to MGM to tell them how bad they are doing.
About the only thing you can say is at least the charaties made good money thanks to the attendees and Gatecon Productions' generous donations. The stars are far more generous of their time than I ever expected. THEY stayed far past 9PM to be sure everyone waiting for autographs got one. I'd like to express thanks of behalf of all Gatecon guests to Teryl Rothery, Peter Williams, Don S. Davis, Jay Brazeau, Amanda Tapping, Colin Cunningham, JR Bourne, Dan Shea, Alexis Cruz, Erick Avari, Jay Acovone, Tony Amendola and Gary Jones for being so good to Gatecon guests. They went over the top and I really mean that in every way. This is surely an amazing con to be a newbie at.
