They sat up there and told us Daniel was going to be written out of the SG-1 team in season six to allow MS to part with the show and do other projects he's interested in. We all sat there waiting for the "No, I'm kidding! ha ha ha!" That didn't come. Not all weekend did you hear the Vancouver Richmond Inn auditorium so quiet. We'd just spent three fablous days asking every question we liked to the stars and seen a charity auction reputably even more wild than last year and the producer drops this on us! Yes, Daniel is being written out another to take his place for season six. I'm almost thinking they should have keep that one in the bag and let us leave the con on a joyous note. But, cons are where you get the dirt.

Our "dirt" in the US is that the DVDs might not be in stores at Christmas. Why in region one get only season one DVDs and region 2 gets everything past season four already and special DVDs of materials is a deep thorn in everyone's mind here. And the companion book is still delayed in the states according to the author. No one here knows jack about anything in why all this is so. No wonder MGM kept a low profile, six hundred people would have given them some pretty sticky questions at the panels. It would not have been pretty. MGM has no clue that people would pay just about anything to have DVDs of the eps RIGHT NOW. Just about all the fans are praying that someone at SCIFI Channel knows more about marketing and can convince MGM to do it right by next year. Write early and often to MGM to tell them how bad they are doing.

About the only thing you can say is at least the charaties made good money thanks to the attendees and Gatecon Productions' generous donations. The stars are far more generous of their time than I ever expected. THEY stayed far past 9PM to be sure everyone waiting for autographs got one. I'd like to express thanks of behalf of all Gatecon guests to Teryl Rothery, Peter Williams, Don S. Davis, Jay Brazeau, Amanda Tapping, Colin Cunningham, JR Bourne, Dan Shea, Alexis Cruz, Erick Avari, Jay Acovone, Tony Amendola and Gary Jones for being so good to Gatecon guests. They went over the top and I really mean that in every way. This is surely an amazing con to be a newbie at.

Seriously? They're writing out Daniel??!! They can't do that!!:crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

If that's what MS wants...

If MS wants to do other projects, then accomodating his schedule is a good thing for the producers to do. Actors don't usually work in one role for this long!

I would much rather see Dr. Jackson doing more on-Earth research and study, and only going an odd mission here and there, and see some new member on the SG-1 team, than have either (a) some other actor playing Daniel, (b) having MS trapped into a role he's bored with, or (c) having the writers kill off the character more permanently than usual!

Wonder what sort of character the writers will come up with to put with the dynamic trio? Poor sod...

Or if they will take the opportunity to split up SG-1 into more than one team so they can introduce a handful of new characters? Carter commanding an SG team might be fun, and watching Jack break in a new team could be entertaining. Who knows how new colleagues would react to Teal'c and Junior...

Don't get me wrong, watching MS play Daniel Jackson is one of the top highlights of the show for me. But the man's human, and wanting more opportunities to expand his career in different directions and express himself creatively. I can understand that.

And I'm very glad that he seems to be working amicably with the producers and writers so that his growth as an actor doesn't cause too much abrupt jarring of the show we all know and love. Anyone that was around for the "SURPRISE, Marcus is dead and Ivanova's actress had contract negotiation miscommunications with the brass and is no longer on the show" Babylon Five Fiasco knows *exactly* what I mean. And don't get me started about Forever Knight killing off *all* of their main characters to make sure season three was their last...

Personally, I'm now writing to MGM, the producers and MS thanking them all again for such a great show, and encouraging MS to take projects that will allow him to contribute as actively as possible in season 6. The show won't be the same without as much of him, but that doesn't mean it won't be good with less of him.

I read on one of the lists that he will be back to SG-1 season 6 occasionally and will be in the SG-1 movie if it gets off the ground.
After five years he can move on. This is longer than most shows go.... and I for one am glad it lasted this long!

Well, it might be okay as long as they don't kill him... Even if I don't see how they could continue the show then, the rest of the team would be a mess...

He just has to be in the movie though, if it's the main cast who's going to be there... Wouldn't be the same without him, no matter how good the stand-in is...

DVD's

Interesting what you learned about the other seasons-after a bunch of E-mails re: the other seasons on DVD, MGM finally responded to me with the BAD news that season 2 would not be out on video (DVD not mentioned at all) until LATE 2002!!!

Seasons 2+

Ugh. Time to buy a multiregion player and R2 DVDs from England... Frosts my butt that MGM doesn't understand their market segment here enough to release the darned things. Or, maybe this whole DVD mess has to do with negotiations with SciFi to actually air season 6?

The U.S. has always been the last to get the DVD's and the companion book. One would think that they might be a little considerate to us US and Canadian fans considering where it is filmed and where the stars come from....

as a uk shipper it peeved me of that i could not get season 1 on dvd over here, so after some negotiations with my husband he bought me a multi region dvd player from the internet, which plays regions 1-6.

mgm need to rethink there stratergy for dealing with gaters as we all want to support the show and buying merchandise is part of that .

So MS has decided enuf is enuf! 5 years is a good long run. Sorry to see him go, but the show will continue without him.

Now, if JACK were leaving... :crying: :crying: :crying:

Well all I have to say is......:crying: :crying: :errrr:

Im speachless....It really won't be the same without Daniel....Danny is my fave character but thats not why Im saying this...I feel it won't be the same without any of the main cast....I always thought it would be all or nothing!!
Oh well I supose we will wait and see...but its still not the same! :disgust:

it is weird that we in the UK are gettign the dvd's b4 u guys in the US.... usually the other way around...

Actually, this allows new oppertunities and a change in team dynamics (which I personally think have been getting a bit stale lately anyway) to finally come forth. I'd love to see Jack and the others develop a new strong relationship with the new guy. Hopefully they'll keep his character likeable and honest, someone with a lot he can learn from the team, but also someone who isn't green. It'll likely be another scientist, but hopefully one that's IN the millitary (civillians are too unpredictable ;-) ). I hope they don't try to Danielize the character either. And by that I mean, they should bring in a new, wholly unique person, not a shadow Daniel. It wouldn't be fair to Daniel or the new character to try and have him fill Daniel's shoes in that sense.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out! And for those of you who are very upset about Daniel leaving, let's remember he's not gone completely and will be back for a few eps at least.

And besides, maybe Thor will name a ship after Daniel now, too. :alienooh:

Hey!

Who says they'll replace Daniel with a "new guy"? Maybe we'll see another woman on SG-1!!
-- Adele

Well, if he's leaving the show, I'm glad it'll be on good terms which will allow him to reprise his role periodically.

Bye Daniel

Well, it would be nice to balance out the team with another female in Daniel's absence-whatever they do, I hope they don't just put in a clone of Daniel's character-if that's what they're gonna do, they may as well just have another actor play the role. I think that logically Daniel could be written out, but let's hope shanks agrees to do some cameos at least to let us know how "our Daniel" is doing.

This is very true...I am looking forward to seeing how they paly this one out.
Im upset that MS could just hang on for a few more months and be Daniel for the whole of season 6...but at least he may be back for a few episodes and that will do for me:D
It will be really interesting to see who they put in his place and see how the team get on with him/her ;)
And a ship named after Danny.... ;)
Now only if they could bring Marty back...;) :D

As for the dvd's....I don't fully understand why us here in the UK get most of the dvd's before the US...or why we can get all of the dvd's apart from all of season 1

I just hope that whoever (whomever?) replaces "Daniel" gets a fair chance from the fans. Lots of shows have survived cast changes just fine. (Think: Angel, Buffy, Babylon 5....)
