HOT NEWS, Our beloved Michael Shanks is leaving Stargate SG-1 as heard from Brad Wright at Gatecon today!!!!!!! His character plot line will be left open so he can return from time to time!!!!! I`m very sad,and hope he changes his mind!!!!!! Let me know what you think to this new development to SG-!!!!!!

saw it coming he has been going back and fourth on it but he had a contract to obligate and he did that this year, granted they have gotten daniel more involved but MICHAEL wants to do other things and he just is not one to be stuck on one show!! i am glad he had a long run on stargate and that they are leaving the character open for his return, heck that is good news at least not killing daniel off 
so he will be back either on shows or in movie but he wants to move on we should all as fans be happy for him and the choice he made, i mean had to be hard he has a made so many friends on the set and think that will be hard for him to leave but he has to think of his career and he does, MICHAEL is very smart man i credit him he has been getting ready for this so i wish him luck i will miss daniel but i would rather see MICHAEL move on then regret staying on another year

according to folks, his first love is stage work, and he's going to do that and some other projects.
i mean be honest folks, he's been making noises about leaving for over a year now. i know the show is going to drastically change but...i wish him all the luck.
and he's going to be absent not gone. we were told daniel is not dead just gone. he will be back.
all i ask, everyone please give his replacement a chance. the poor guy they cast is going to be fighting an uphill battle. a) his job may only last a year, b) he's going to definitely be the odd man out, not only on the set but also on stage, c) he's going to face 22 eps of 'danny wouldnt have done that' criticism.
i for one can't wait to see how it all works out.

An unhappy actor does a lousy job (e.g., David Duchovny last season). If Michael is ready to leave, that's sad, but we gotta let him go.
Here's hoping:
* that we do get to see Daniel a few times in Season 6 as promised
* they do an SG1 movie, and he's in it
* the producers/PTBs are wise enough to either create an entirely new and radically different character for the 4th team member, so the poor guy isn't constantly compared to Daniel, or else they bring someone in we already know (Lt Simmons, or Sgt Davis, maybe??) and like.

As a die hard Danny fan...when I heard this news in general forum I was speachless and upset that MS was leaving the show

some follks have suggested a letter writing campaign to support MS. i think it's a good idea. if anyone has the addy to the studio or better yet his agent (since they're going on haitus anything sent to bridge studios will have to be forwarded or wait for months to get to him) maybe they could post it.
Not his personal addy if anyone has that, just a business one. how about thanking him for 110 eps of fun and games

i am really sorry that daniel is leaving sg1 as well, but michael
does have a life too, and we have been very lucky to have had
him in stargate for the past 5 years, so i would like to wish michael all the best in whatever he does next. i think being able to write to him and thank him for stargate and to wish him luck
in his new venture whatever that maybe is a great idea, does
