Level Editors Unite!

what u mean start a mod ?????????

Well I'd definatley be willing to make maps for it, and also prefabs and what not. I'll do it, but we must have a 3-d modeler, and a coder, if you can get them great! The only area of concern for me is that I've seen people start mods all gung ho they model the first couple of weapons, and characters and then that's all that ever happens. If we do it the modeling must be consistant so the project can get done, same with any coding.

Oh, and a mod is a video game environment created by fans based around a certain theme ( like Stargate) when completed others can download the mod and play the video game as if a member of the SG teams battling ghould, or even just special ops, or whatever.

which game is this for? half-life?

if u can, try to find some coders and that to post in here so we can get talking.
do you know all the positions that a mod team needs? cos ive never made a mod b4 in my life

Sorry I haven't replied for so long guys, I've had trouble getting to a net-connected computer.
Aha! Another person who actually understands what I'm talking about! Welcome to the 'team' (and I use the term loosely), Iceycat, your help would be...helpful.
I don't have much experience with any aspect of mod-making except for level editing. I've heard of a couple of programs floating around on the 'Net that are supposed to make weapon creation very easy, but I haven't found anything yet.
A website would be helpful, but I don't have 'Net access, so I can't run it, sorry. And yeah, I also hate seeing mods that are only half-finished then abandoned. I'd like to see this through, if we do start it.
Thanks,
Raptor

im willing to create the site for it, and some graphic work and modelling would be ok i spose

lets find some ppl who are willing to help first, then we coul decide if this thing can b finished cos it takes a lot of work u no

well count me in. probably should start a new thread advertising for what we want though. also if you can start a website ( I don't know html) we can advertise that in a thread too. Unfortunatley my contacts in the ascifi community don't go that deep, so maybe you guys could find some qualified people out there? Anyway sign me on!

i can make a website for us easily, so i could do that then, yeah we should start a thread, but we need some ppl to head up the project b4 we recruit anyone else.

well, lets break down what we all need then so when get ourselves composed.

ok, im no expert wen it comes to mod making, but heres what i think the positions for the team should be:

website designer
3d modeller
coder
animator
level mapper
sounds
sound fx
texture mapper
skinner

Well I'm your level mapper then! I am also fair at creating prefabs too! Now as for the others.......

Hey guys,

I don't want to spoil your excitement guys but what you're trying to do takes so much time and effort.

I have a number of HL, UT links on my site and they all seem to promise something that's never gonna be released.

Creating a "Mod" is always so easy to say. Even I've had ago in the days of Quake and Worldcraft and the only thing I managed to create was some great DM levels. I've not even had a go at the UT Level Editor - because I know I'd get addicted.

The only site that I know comes close is www.sg1-hl.com and even that site doesn't offer much in the way of downloads (about 51% complete).

The best thing I'd suggest if you're all keen on completing a mod is to offer your skills to sites like above who have already done alot of the idea/designing ground work.

There are a few other Mod Urls at my site under the Community Section. Hope this helps.
