Maybe Hammond? ;)

I can just picture the new foursome running away from attack with Hammond panting and out of breath dropping further and further behind.

Jack: "I told you to lay off the doughnuts sir!";)

Oooo Nic. Jsc and Annette will probably pelt you with rancid chocolate for the implied insult to Hammond.

What about that kid from New Ground. He was an archologist on his own world. They supposedly gave him a cushy job doing research on earth.

 :laugh2:  :laugh2:

Then he'd have to do remedial PT with the 'sick, lame and lazy' mob!!!!

Every day..... We used to see 'em puffing and panting around the camp, while the PTI jogged behind, around and in front of them, superbly and sickeningly fit.... screaming and cracking the whip. I used to feel so sorry for them and if ever I was tempted to not go on my five mile run in the morning, I would think of them and the amount of amusement they caused and drag myself out of bed.......

Nah, Im only joking. I love Hammy really.
Please don't pelt me with rancid choccies - I'll eat them. (Hey they might be rancid but chocolate is chocolate!:D )

NB: This post is not meant to be taken seriously!

Okay...... How shall Daniel leave? I think..............erm.....lemme see now......ooooooh this is hard.....

Well.... Daniel aka Michael Shanks, should go out in a positive BLAZE of glory and ascend to another dimension entirely from which he will NEVER NEVER EVER return, on pain of dying again... (Possibly at my hand because I am so tired of hearing about it!)

Then ALL of the millions and millions of his adoring fans will build a HUGE funeral pyre in front of the Stargate in honour of his demise and then solemnly, one by one, will immolate themselves upon it in the nature of the Indian 'Sati' ritual as performed daily by Indian widows.

Of course, millions of fans immolating themselves one by one on a pyre in front of the stargate WILL seriously hinder the normal day to day operation of the gate.... not to mention the smell which will be pretty horrible. However, SG1 and the SGC can wear respirators. If it gets too bad, then the operating of the gate will have to be through the Russian version.

There will be the added advantage though that while the SG teams will have considerable problems getting out and back through the gate because of the funeral devotions, the Goa'uld will also certainly not WANT to come in through it either. Unless they do it with pegs on their noses (or respirators of course) So the security of earth will be unviolated. Except of course, by the thousands of motherships which could quite easily land elsewhere and take over (OH! .... Golly gosh.... why has no one actually thought of that one? They could be approaching even as I drivel and ramble on! Perhap I should make sure I have clean underwear on! Or if it's Chronos possibly no underwear on!)

Hey! don't you guys knock my idea! It's as rational as anything else anyone else has spat out so far!!!

Gee, Anni, what's your problem with Daniel? It's normal that Daniel's fans would react this way. How do you think Jack's or Teal'c or Sam's fans would react if their characters were leaving? Believe or not, Daniel was integral to SG1 and SGC. Apart of the fact, like Jack himself said, "Daniel Jackson made this place happen." How many times Daniel's intelligence and skills and insights and moral integrity saved Earth and SGC and SG1? Remember Solitudes? And Entity? Remember that Jack said that Daniel was not only SG1's voice but conscience? If you resent the fact that Daniel's fans care about him, then you should resent Jack's and Teal'c and Sam's and Martouf's and Apophis' and whomever's fans too.

I think the writers of the show, not the fans, have consistently made Daniel's contributions to SG1 and SGC and Earth crystal clear. There are many soldiers and many scientist but really, only one Daniel Jackson. Think about how empty and one-sided the show would have been without him. And if the new character "becomes" a Daniel clone, that shows how much they need the real thing.

I can't fault MS for leaving the show, that's his decision. I hardly know anything about the man. But certainly, Daniel Jackson was a very good character and the fact that he has that many fans proved that he was fully fleshed and complex and "real".

This is most difficult for me and I don't mean to offend but....

Norita..... for heaven's sake, I was actually kidding.

I do not have a problem with Daniel......

Now, which part of that sentence don't you actually understand?

I don't care if Daniel or his fans burst into flame and ascend if that's what rocks their boat. I don't resent that Daniel's fans care about him. But Daniel is NOT a real person.

This is a TV show, people.... it's not real.

So, shall I tell you what's real in life? What's real is watching one of my best friend's husband fall apart at the seams when he was packing his wife's dental records in his suitcase prior to travelling to New York just before the convention so that the forensic people would have something to work on should they find fragments of her teeth or even body parts. And feeling helpless.

What's real is sitting with a dear friend last year in a hospice while she died of cancer, vomiting up her own waste material. And feeling helpless.

What's real is being told by the Paediatricians that my much loved eldest son was retarded and unlikely to grow into anything but a cabbage. And feeling like my world was falling apart.

What's real is standing next to a trembling young soldier as he is forced to shoot what looked like a 13 year old child, who suddenly produced a Kalashikov out of his robes and fired pointblank on us. And to realise that there is an army of children around you. And knowing that you have to kill them because they sure as hell are going to kill you.

What's real is to travel to Iraq now and see the horrors that the Gulf War has inflicted on children by leaving them with a radioactive desert for a playground. And feeling rage for the futility of war.

What's real is watch a comrade go down in a firefight and not be able to do a damn thing about it except swallow down tears and force yourself to move on.

Daniel..... and Stargate and all of this is not real. It's MEANT to be bloody entertainment for crying out loud (to coin a phrase) We are meant to enjoy it and move on.... a lovely little bit of escapism from the nastiness of life in this world. We are not meant to go into deep mourning because one of the actors has decided that HIS life needs to move on.

So please..... WE are the one's who are complex fully fleshed and real...... MS is complex, fully fleshed and real.......as are AT RDA and CJ.

Daniel and the others are characters in a bloody TV show..... Complex and fully fleshed they might be, but just by virtue of the words the writer give them to say and their own interpretation of how they THINK a character like this might behave, but they are not real.

Mourn if you wish for god's sake, but let's please get some perspective in all this.

We are all standing on the brink of an horrific war...... which will provide real mourning and tears for the familes of those who die in it.... Let's keep our real tears for that huh? And treat the TV show as it was intended to be treated.

As a piece of escapist nonsense.

And now let's keep the thread about either serious or joking nonsense speculating on how the writers and producers will work their way around what could be a difficult episode.

anni, i would comment on that but...well words won't suffice.

((((anni))))

will have to suffice.

I gotta see this (brings out chaise lounge, umbrella, lemonade, cookies, hounds and torture rod).

Naw... they can't demote Hammie... he has to be the kindly father figure, do that nasty paperwork and run the base. (Can I watch T-Man help train Hammie... love to watch that defined sexy T-man! and giggle over Hammie running with the old, lame and lazy!)

Anni, poor Norita is in shock.... you have to be kind to the walking wounded!:)

Well, for someone who believes the show is escapist nonesense, you sure spend a lot of time (703 postings since March 2001 )writing about SG1. Why is it that when someone disagrees with what another person feels or thinks about the show, they immediately come up with "It's just a show, it's not real." Of course I know it's not real.

And no way it compares at all with the Sept. 11 tragedy. That is totally in another league. Any reasonable, human person feels horrified and shocked and shaken about what happened. And God only knows what impact it will have on our lives. Maybe it will be the start of the 3WW. Meanwhile our lives go on. And part of the normality is this, writing about the show. We all have lives outside the show, we work and have families and go to the movies and travel and exercise and diet and everything else.

But if ALL of us post on this forum it's because we care about the show. So any opinion is valid.

Oh my dear, dear lady! Of COURSE I do..... just like EVERYONE on this forum does......

Don't you see? Can't you see? I need escapist nonsense as much, if not more than most.... because I have been MADE to come face to face with the horrors of this world and the dreadful things one human does to another, often willingly. These kind of horrors that NO human being should be made to face... or witness. They live in my dreams, both waking and sleeping, even to the point where I can see the faces of those who died and suffered while I am standing at the kitchen window washing the dishes.

Do you know what a 'thousand yard stare' is? If not, go and ask or just look at a Vietnam veteran or a veteran of any war. Ask them what thoughts go through their mind when they sometimes just hear a couple of notes of a song, or small whiff of some half forgotten smell which whisks them back to a time they would much rather forget had ever happened. Back to a video which constantly plays and replays in their head whenever these tiny little things restimulate them.

Do you know what is is like to kill another human being, and actually see their face as they die? I sincerely hope not Norita, because truly that is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

Yes Stargate is escapist nonsense...... and I thank god for it....I thank god for the fact that I still, somewhere deep inside of me, am able to watch it and transcend myself into make believe land. And come back out the other side and STILL talk in a rational manner. Because I know lots of people like me..... who have walked the walk AND talked the talk and can hardly put one foot in front of the other because they are so traumatised by the things they have seen and done.

And yes.... we do post on the list because we care...... But we still need to get the whole thing in perspective. Mourn all you wish....

And believe me.... I do not JUST refer to the events of 11 September as atrocious as those events were and which hit me in a most personal way. Things like that have been happening all over the world for centuries and mostly they have gone unnoticed by the so-called civilised societies of this world. It was left to soldiers like me to try to fight for the right of all to live peacefully and then struggle to pick up the pieces of the civilians that we impacted afterwards. And we have never ever received any credit for that. And it has been that way since Rudyard Kipling sat and penned his poems during the latter centuries.

"You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!"

Rudyard Kipling (Extract from the poem 'Tommy')

Now will ANYONE please suggest something that might make a simple idea for Daniel to leave, or ascend....? And I think Hammond was an excellent replacement choice myself, because the poor bugger never gets out of that damn HQ.

Don't worry Norita,
Anni ...well.... sometimes she gets more than a tad brusque. This forum is for our enjoyment as long as we do not hurt another and all opinions are valid.... some are just louder than others.

Yes, she posts on the forums frequently and her humor is very darkly tinged and sets people off. She stirrs up the molasses which often ticks people off. Don't let her bother you and come back and post YOUR opinions as you have done... you won't offend and don't worry!

Would love to see Hammie go off and have fun... but it just won't happen (too much anyway... besides the young make better cannon fodder... and are easier for young eyes to take.... imagine Hammie in a shower... the only way that vision works out is he is alone {except for the doughnuts} and singing!)

So we will get a youngish civilian... not an oldish general!

Actually jsc.... Norita didn't actually post an opinion on this thread, she answered one of mine.

And of course..... you're quite right, nobody should let me bother them.... or stop them from posting any kind of opinion... and I will certainly try to keep mine to myself....

Back to the topic......

Norita if you wish to discuss it further please email me privately.... you have my address.... or PM me.

Actually, that's almost as bad a vision as me naked in the shower...... poor poor Hammy. But you know.... in reality Don S Davis is one of the most attractive people I have ever met and it has nothing to do with the way he looks. He is a beautiful person inside and caring I think. He certainly cared enough about his fans to stop for a moment and say hello with a warm smile to this Stargate fan!!!

I think we do know that Daniel is probably going to ascend though don't we? I seem to remember something being posted about an episode relating to this? Or was I just imagining it?

As for his replacement.... they said it was someone civilian and big and someone we have seen before. But whether they meant big in the size sense or big because he had a big role in some other episode I don't know, probably the latter.... and there have been so many who could fit that bill, I wouldn't even like to try and hazard a guess.

I do think that Season Six will be something to look forward to though even though I know many will still wish that Daniel was there. I can't help thinking that things may be taking an interesting and hopefully exciting turn....

 :D

what was that mature lady called again?
The one who danny knew, and who's boyfriend got stuck on a planet, and they went to see her in "1969"?

Er..... Catherine wasn't it? She was involved with the Stargate project in the thirties and her bloke, whose name escapes for the moment, was the first person to go through the gate and they didn't tell her or something.

I know the episode and the person you mean, but can't remember the name!

:(

Hooray! I looked something up:rolly2:
