The Enterprise Theme Tune

Russell Watson, he's sitting on my desk so that I may gaze upon him...no I have his CD to listen to at work.

(from Trek Today and Zapit)

The use of 'Faith of the Heart' as the Enterprise theme has provoked a myriad of strong reactions from fans, but singer Russell Watson isn't the least bit concerned by the song's reception.

"Isn't that like everything in life?" he told Kate O'Hare at Zap2it. "Something new happens, and people aren't quite sure of it. But they'll get used to it. By the time they've watched the 20th episode, they'll be thinking, 'Well, it's not that bad after all.'"

When songwriter Diane Warren asked if he wanted to perform the song for Enterprise, Watson jumped at the chance. "Diane's a fan of mine," he said. "She already wrote something for my second album, and she asked if I'd like to get involved with the new 'Star Trek' production. Obviously, I had to check my diary - not."

Regardless of the response to the theme, Watson said it's here to stay. "We're actually looking at recording a video [on the set] and releasing the song as a single, so if there are any Trekkies out there that really hate it, sorry, you're going to get it rammed down your throat for a while."

An extended version of the theme, renamed 'Where My Heart Will Take Me,' is included in Watson's latest album, Encore. The album is currently out in the United Kingdom, and will be making its North American debut in February 2002. The singer's first release, The Voice, is available world-wide.

His album is pretty good... sounds mighty fine

Do you think that if the song is a hit single, the fans that don't like it will change their minds, or will they dig-in their negative positions even more?

dunno, I like the song but absolutely hate it as a Trekkie song. Oh & no Porthos again, sniff sniff, bring back the doggie!:(

Well i think it is a great change for trek.. Great stride forward,,, away from the Old trek...

I have not yet seen the new Star Trek. But when it comes on i will be watching and seing how the programme is compared with the other 4 star Trek series. Seen all the rest of them. I get called a freck a bit but i do not care much.

But accordin to the lyricis that i have just read they should not be on Star Trek because i have got used to where they just talk or just do the music / theme tune.

Star Trek: TOS did talking.
Star Trek: TNG did talking.
Star Trek: VOY and DS9 just did a theme tune.

How bad it is really? Like the actual way that is actually sung???

HOW IS THE SHOW and CHARACTERS like on screen because i have only read the plots and the character specs.

The reson why i have not seen the new Star Trek series is because i live in the UNITED KINGDOM and the fact that i no longer have sky until we get the system sorted out.

It is going to be released as a single so you will be able to hear it.

We are already talking about the characters and stories from 'Enterprise' here-- look under 'Season 1.' You could buy a magazine such as "Star Trek Monthly" or "SFX" for more information.

It won't be on SKY ONE until Feb 2002, but some people have other ways of getting to see it, even in the UK.

as I said before, I like the song, it's a nice mellow tune, just not Trek stile. It puts you to sleep or relaxed mode instead of hyping you up for adenture in space.:disgust:

Interesting... i like it... love watchin the history of space

ya I think the footage is cool, still the song's too mellow for the moment...so I think:alienooh: we need to get motivated to go visit aliens:alienooh:

OK.... interesting ..... seek out aliens ???

well aint that their prime directive? "to seek out new life forms new civilizations"?

Sorry Neo, I was primed and ready for the first show, but when I heard the music I thought I was on the wrong channel. The show needs a new song.

New here, I have been enjoying this forum.:D

That's OK Dark City, Neo is big enough to take it :D

And Welcome to ASciFi!

I still like the song, but there seems to be quite a few people who like the song, but don't think it is Star Trek enough. The Jury is still out on that question I think.

Glad to here that you like the Forum. Put a thread in the newbie sections and introduce yourself to more people.

Dave.

Yer Dark City i get picked on in here alot by people...sniff sniff... mentioning no names 'DAVE',,,,, he he he JOke Dave

Glad ur enjoying yourself.... Hope to see more of ya posts...

So what has hapened to the normal style of the star trek themes???

I cannot actually say that it is crap because i have not yet sen the programme because i do not have sky and i am also in the UK.

Well no one has seen the new series yet on sky one in the uk... it does not come on till Jan / feb....

AS for the song i love it....

Enterprise co-creator and executive producer Rick Berman is well aware of the negative reaction towards the Enterprise theme song, 'Faith of the Heart,' but he still thinks it is very appropriate for the series.

"I'm in the horrible minority of people who like the song," Berman told Sci-Fi Wire. "I think it fits beautifully."

The producer is unfazed by the uproar over Trek's first lyrical theme. "I think it's a song that's got a lot of hopefulness and uplifting qualities to it," Berman said. "And I like it. I've met a lot of other people who like it, but I've also heard a tremendous amount of banter about people who don't. And what's a Star Trek series without something for people to hate?"

Berman's view is shared by fellow Enterprise executive producer, Brannon Braga (story). "We can't please everybody," Braga said in an October interview. "There are some people who love the song and there are people who think it's cheesy. They came with a petition with 1,000 signatures. But plenty of people find the song very uplifting."

'Faith of the Heart' was written by Academy Award nominated songwriter Diane Warren, and performed by British opera sensation Russell Watson. The song was recorded by Rod Stewart for the movie 'Patch Adams.'

Russell Watson: (on the new theme tune) "Something new happens, and people aren't quitw sure of it. But they'll get used to it. By the time they've watched the 20th episode, they'll be thinking, 'Well, it's not that bad after all.'"

Rick Berman: "We were looking for a song that was an example of what Star Trek was - a song that expressed a sense of exploration, a sense of bravery and fearfulness. But we didn't want to hit it on the head. 'Faith of the Heart' has a tremendous amount of spirit, faith and humanity that fits exactly what we wanted."
