I got wary of G'Tano after Master Bra'Tac's valid point about ballance in fighting was shrugged off so casually. While I think that both T-Man and especially our wary Bra'tac should have investigated deeper, they both got really caught up in their dream of freedom... sometimes when that happens you don't think and just blindly follow until.... catching at straws in the wind (especially after the events of Serpent's Venom) to achieve a long hoped for dream or passion.... It just made them, to me, more vulnerable (I keep thinking of all the Enron people that got fooled... to say nothing of so many of us who get fooled about other things... mates, potential mates, religions, charities and et cetera) and human (inspite of denial of heritage from the Jaffa side) I believe both T and Bra'tac will think twice about following someone but they come from a culture where blind obedience was the rule... and that makes one a rebel and/or a non-thinker... and believe me these are not mutually exclusive categories....

Totally agree there, I find it strange that Teal'c and Bra'tac were so easily won by
G'Tanno at first. But then think that they were obviously blind because they wanted so much to see their dream, Jaffa's free of Goauld come true. It was a very interesting episode, also enjoy the sort of confrontation between Jack and G'Tanno for Teal'c . I find strange that Bra'tac was so easily won because anyway he have more experience that Teal'c with Goaulds.

Krystal :D

I really enjoyed this episode. Teal'c has been woefully underused for the last two seasons. It's good to see him get his moment in the spotlight.

This is the first episode all season that felt like a Stargate episode. Far too many episodes have had a 'generic sci-fi' feel to them.

As a bonus, for once, they DIDN'T kill off the System Lord. I was getting really tired of the 'let's go up against an alien who possesses technology that makes us look like caveman, and armed only with some C4, take him out in 10 minutes with no casualties' plotlines.

Thanks Jobeth...once again you make me feel that I am not going totally crazy. I thought it was great that they made a complete Teal'c centred eppy....and I thought that they explored the hopes and enthusiasms of the Jaffa culture admirably. It was, as you said, a real Stargate episode, and the fact that they didn't kill of Yu just made this one complete. I am still P***ed off that they killed off Cronus.

Thanks Anni.

I'd like to see this storyline continued next year. The fate of the rebel Jaffa was left open, so there's plenty of room for a sequel.

I liked that part when the Jaffa told Jack he didn't see why they should change their traditional methods just because SG1 showed up and showed them a 'better' way. The Jaffa obviously didn't feel inferior to the Tauri in anyway, shape or form. In fact, they apparently considered themselves to be superior.

I've always found the idea that an entire society would change it's long-standing traditions and beliefs (that have served them well for generations) simply because four strangers showed up for a few days a little hard to swallow anyway. It's a refreshing change to see a self-confident society.

And the arrogant assumption by Jack in particular that they *would* change their belief system simply because he told them it was right has constantly irritated me throughout. Along with Sam's mute agreement with everything her CO did....occasionally she gets mutinous but mostly she just stands there looking aggrieved. Daniel was the one who constantly questioned everything Jack did.

The Jaffa had generations of culture and their own training behind them and in many ways philosophically, they are streets ahead of the humans. I would also be glad if they revisited that scenario, but I'd better not hold my breath I think!

;)

It was good to see Jack taken down a peg or two, wasn't it.

Good ep, lots of action, adventure, insight into the Jaffa, etc. This proves that TPTB CAN come up with winners. I just hope they keep cranking out ones like this instead of the faux X-Files/movie rip-offs.

Teal'c and Bra'tac

My problem was the fact that Teal'c and Bra'tac pride themselves on being able to tell if a jaffa is lying or not. Why could no one figure out that K'tano was lying?

that is the one weak spot in the eps. I can understand teal'c's and bra'tac's desire to free their peopel, it s a good and noble goal. but i also question thier wisdom, or lack there of.
they seem sooo set in their ways. maybe to them the only way to defeat the goa'uld is to follow the goa'uld's methods...which is 'to heck with casualties, we want results'...well if you have an unlimited number of super soldiers, that works. if you're a tiny (relatively speaking) resistance movement...every life is precious and you can't keep throwing them away on suicide missions.
as much as they look down in earth and the methods...they have to realize that preserving life and the numbers of their troops is the way to go. tehy need a loyalty to each other.
if they, like katano was doing, adopt the 'it's the result that matters to heck with casualties'....tehy're going to kill thier own movement off.

given both teal'c's adn bratac's years of experience, i find it surprising that they'd fall for it. that was my big problem with the episode...that neither of them suspected or questioned, they just fell into the party line

It's also weird that Bra'tac even said that he could look into a Jaffa's heart and tell if he was true or not. I think he said that when this hole thing started.

Well, he might just be a really good orator, can win the crowds. after all, prime ministers/politicians do it allt eh time, and we know they're all corrupt!

Jaffa pride themselves on the ability to see into the heart and soul of a person. Their ritual meditaions being a necessary part everyday life. I'd hate for them to be so easily led by people whose soul or honor they should be able to see.

That's what I'm saying: Kytano was one of a kind. Had a gift, if you want.

just seen the eppie last night1 loved it
thoughts on kitano / katano???

I think Imhotep/Katano actually believed his own rhetoric!

the whole we will be free go to kheb thing

just maybe imhotep's current host was either a jaffa whose implantation pouch was removed when he became host to imhotep or a jaffa whose symbiote became mature within him who took the name of imhotep - the guy seemed to know the jaffa culture inside out

also
i think either katano/ imhotep was a tokra plant or
imhotep and yu set this whole thing up between them to attack enemies like nirrti - or imhotep was using yu' s hatred of nirrti to have "protective cover" to attack her and that the defection of the nirrrti jaffa was genuine

perhaps imhotep's death was a delibarate martyrdom
- he realised tealc would make a better military leader and figured if the rebellion on the mother ship failed he'd still have the martryrdom option to help the jaffa - maybe he genuinely believed he could have subverted yu's jaffa ???

he didnt seem to care if he lived or died and
he "fooled" bratac and tealc???

either that or jaffa are just plain thick and I'd rather believe
imhotep/ katano was sincere and thought his matryrdom would bind together jaffa who were enemies under teal'c leadership
whose who might have resented him for being a former first prime will now respect teal'c

and unless that staff weapon thrust tore apart imhoteps heart and lungs since it wasnt a headsdhot he might have had time to go into healing trance stasis so he could be revived later?

could be interesting to see imhotep again?

Imhotep as a martyr works for me - the original imhotep was a famous architect and also a healer!

and if he was we've had a meaning glance at jaffa/gouald religion
do some gouald dream of being free of the burden of serial immortality??? of finally dying instead of moving to a new host?

Imhotep - martyr and politician ???

Great Episode, Great Jack Moments

Overall, a really kick-ass episode! I especially liked the slo-mo Matrix moments!

I feel I must give special mention to some of the Jack moments, that guy never ceases to amuse me! I liked the bit at the beginning where SG-1 are being introduced to K'Tano and then Jack's backpack falls off:rolly2: The way Jack just looks back at the bag and then to K'Tano and says, "HI!"
Then there was the moment where Jack and Sam are demonstrating their weaponry and Jack calls out, "Hey! You with the skirt!":rolly2: I can't believe none of the Jaffa took offense to that. I think it was brilliant the way Carter totally obliterated that log, especially when it was moving!:D

One question though. If all of these Jaffa are rebels, why are their many symbols of the Goa'uld they serve. There are symbols of Ra and Apophis on sticks around the fighting-circle and I saw red and grey Serpent Guard helmets on a table nearby. Why are they keeping these around?
