Spike: where'd those years come form?

That's the Time Warp from the Rocky Horror Picture Show! I've got that on my comp.

RiffRaff:
It's astounding;
Time is fleeting;
Madness takes its toll.
But listen closely...
Magenta:
Not for very much longer.
RiffRaff:
I've got to keep control.
I remember doing the time-warp
Drinking those moments when
The Blackness would hit me
RiffRaff:
And the void would be calling...
Transylvanians:
Let's do the time-warp again.
Let's do the time-warp again.
Narrator:
It's just a jump to the left.
All:
And then a step to the right.
Narrator:
With your hands on your hips.
All:
You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insane.
Let's do the time-warp again.
Let's do the time-warp again.
Magenta:
It's so dreamy, oh fantasy free me.
So you can't see me, no, not at all.
In another dimension, with voyeuristic intention,
Well secluded, I see all.
RiffRaff:
With a bit of a mind flip
Magenta:
You're into the time slip.
RiffRaff:
And nothing can ever be the same.
Magenta:
You're spaced out on sensation.
RiffRaff:
Like you're under sedation.
All:
Let's do the time-warp again.
Let's do the time-warp again.
Columbia:
Well I was walking down the street just a-having a think
When a snake of a guy gave me an evil wink.
He shook-a me up, he took me by surprise.
He had a pickup truck, and the devil's eyes.
He stared at me and I felt a change.
Time meant nothing, never would again.
All:
Let's do the time-warp again.
Let's do the time-warp again.
Narrator:
It's just a jump to the left.
All:
And then a step to the right.
Narrator:
With your hands on your hips.
All:
You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insane.
Let's do the time-warp again.
Let's do the time-warp again.

well - that was like the 2nd or 3rd time he's said that then, b/c in the ep where he kidnaps willow to do the love spell on dru (sorry, i don't remember the ep title off the top of my head) - he told her the same thing - so he's either been 126 for a very long time, or he doesn't really know/care how old he is --

my speculation, is that he was at least 18 when he was turned (at the party alone, but still living w/ mother - he's probably not 12 - and James wouldn't make a very convincing 12 or 13 yr-old anyway ;)) -- but, he could have been as old as 26 or so -- and he's been around for over 100 years, so, maybe he just says he's 126 ---

my guess is, he's closer to 140 or 145 (nearing that 150 mark) -

ie: let's say he was 20 when he was turned, and it's been like 121 years (thru 2001) since that, makes him 141, which makes a lot more sense than him having been 9 when he was turned (going w/ the 1st time he mentioned being 126 - like season 2 or 3).

and, there's no way he's been a vamp for 126 years. He was turned in 1880. 1880 + 126 = 2006 - um - we're not there yet - sorry.

but, this could just be a case of TV math - kinda like on soap operas where a kid is born one year and is 25 the next....

further speculation????

Maybe after 120 years, birthdays just don't do it for him anymore and he's lost count. Either that or someone mixed up the number of candles on his cake, and he got confused. Bless!

hey! good point/idea/etc!! hehehehe --entirely possible --

see - i can do whimsical and analytical!

or - maybe they did it to avoid the 'canon' goofs other shows bump into -- if Spike just says he's 126 all the time - then they don't have to worry about getting it wrong later --

i will say, tho, this show has the fewest canonical errors of any i've watched ----- kudos to the staff!

New Theory on Spike's Age --

Okay - this just came to me the other day - probably when I was watching Buffy or writing a fic or something --

Remember in "Afterlife" (ep 6.3) Spike tells Buffy he hasn't been to a hell dimension 'of late'? well, this could account for him not recalling exactly how old he is - he may not actually know. That is, if he's actually been to a hell dimension and wasn't lying to Buffy just to make her feel better. (I'm almost sure he's been to one, but wouldn't be able to tell ya which one or what it was like - speculate on that one on your own - write a fic or something! :))

So - for argument's sake - Spike's been to a hell dimension - maybe this is why Dru isn't w/ him in 1977, or maybe this is how he found her again later. We all know time passes differently in hell dimensions (or other dimensions) - Angel's hell dimension was faster; Buffy's was faster; even Buffy's heaven was faster (time passage that is) -- but, I would guess it's entirely possible for one to have time that passes slower than Sunnydale time. Either way - if Spike was in a hell dimension - one year could have passed for him in the course of 3 or 4 years in Sunnydale (or the rest of Joss Whedon's version of Earth); or Spike could have been in a place where 7 or 8 years passed rather quickly, thus shifting his perception of his age one way or the other on the 'age measurement scale'. So, to him, he actually COULD be 126 (as of S3) b/c of a slower passage of time where he was - he could have 'missed' several years of Whedon-verse time. That, howver, doesn't explain why he says he's 126 in "The Initiative" - but that could just be a Spike thing - maybe he was 126 when he got out of hell, so he just used that as his age ---

It's a theory --

I don't know H2, it seems like a lot of hoops to jump through just to cover up the fact that the writers screwed up.

Oh - I didn't say that it was the best theory -- but, if anyone wanted to give it a shot --- more power to 'em --

It was one of those things that hit me - probably when I was trying to go to sleep - and I didn't have time to think it all the way through - which is why it's so choppy --

maybe I can, one day, when I've finished all the other stories bounding around in my head, come up w/ a more cohesive version ---
