Asf Files On Archive Site

Wondering if anyone knows about the ASF files on the archive site-I downloaded all the eps I missed onto CD's-the ASF files running in Media Player sometimes run choppy and will actually stop for a few seconds-the sound continues, but the picture stops-any ideas on whether I'm doing something wrong? Maybe I need more RAM (I run 128)? Or is it just the nature of the beast (I know the ASF files are not the greatest quality, but it's nice to catch up what I've missed). Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know why it happens but I've had the same problem. Try to right click with your mouse and click save under ( or something like that) when you download the file. that way, the file won't go directly in window media but on you hardware. You can then watch it offline and it doesn't stop to " charge itself" or buffle like it says...

Did you understand anything I said? I'm not a computer genius and the little I know is in French...

Yes, I understood everything you said-your English is very good, and I'm a teacher, so take that as a compliment- I did save the files to a seperate folder-I'm not a computer genius either, but I'm betting another 128 of RAM will help or solve the problem-I was going to upgrade anyway because of all the streaming video I've been getting since the installation of my cable modem. Anyone else have any thoughts/suggestions?

Depending on the speed of your cd player (8X, 16X, 32X, 64X etc) depends on how quick your machine can read the file and therefore play it back. Asf files use a smaller amount of data on the audio than the actual video hence that audio plays without problem.

I've done alot of work on video playback from CD and it's a fine art getting a sensible quality on all types of CD Player.

If the ASF Files play ok on your local machine then I'd definetely say it's your CD Drive speed that's the problem.

Some Movie Players can "buffer" the audio from a file using your computers Ram but for some reason this never seems to work that well when playing back from CD. What Video Player are you using and what version ?

Hope this info helps. You could always re-encode the files at a different frequency using Adobe Preimiere or the free DDClip Program available on the Net.

Adobe Preimiere has a nice "test playback" feature which can emulate the speed transfer from other devices (such as CD Player).

Hey Sphinx, thanks for the info-I'll try your suggestions as time warrants-by the way, your site is terrific-the most original and entertaining I've come across-I've sent all my friends E-mail with a link to your site. Jaffa-Jim

What Country?

I'm an American- EEK, you say? Yes, I'm a bit on the wacky side, but what else would you expect from a guy who calls himself "Jaffa-Jim"?

Thanks

Yup its backup and I am catching up on all the SG1 I've missed :D

So far I've almost watched all of Season one, and have upto Season 3 downloaded :D

I CAN NEVER SEE THE WHOLE EPISODE! IT'S SO ANNOYING! AS SOON AS I GET INTO IT IT STOPS BECAUSE OF A CONNECTION ERROR! AND I HAVE DSL!!!

Hey Shu_hunter

Are you streaming it, or downloading?

If you are streaming it then I don't a way to help you.

If on the other hand you mean you can't download becuase the download fails, then I can help you :)

There are a number of programs you can use that will continue a download even if it has been stopped, you ahve disconnected or whatever (very handy let me tell you)

Download Accelerator

or another one I have tried:

Get-Right

I hope that was of some use, if not post again and I'll try and help some more :)

it will be downloading, get to about 1 mb and then say the download is completed and you can play what you have but i CANNOT get the whole episode. Anyone else having similar problems????

cookie_jar .. follow Wingless-Flyer's tip for using Download Accelerator - it has the capablity to start where the download crashed - saves starting all over again.

yeah, and even with getright you hafta sorta keep watching it, dunno with the rest of you but for me, I can't leave it to download, it keeps "disconnecting from server" and i hafta manually press resume, does someone know how to get around this or doesn't neone experience this prob. ?!?!

thanx newayz ............

Sphinx, I tried that but it won't even connect to the download. Just keeps trying again then stops. I'm thinking that there must be a problem with the site.
Thanks anyway.
