Who would you choose to replace Daniel?

If you want to accomplish the change in actor with as little change in looks and character as possible (as they did from the movie to the series), how about the actor that plays (get this) the Angel of Death on "Touched By An Angel"?

I'd choose Major Davis.

Why?
Becuase he's already a character we are familiar with. I think when we actaully see the guy who replaces Danny it's gonna skake things up a bit in the fandom. It's going to be difficult for most fans not having Danny there, so we need someone who we are already familiar with, who we already like and who would fit in with the team. Davis has been an interesting character from the very beginning. He has the potential to really go places on the show. We're already comfortable with him being there and I think that there is so much more they could do with him. Plus, he just seems to be a really great guy. Given we haven't seen much of him in the "field" per se but he does seem very intelligent and I think he would make a nice addition to SG-1.

What about Nyan, from "New Ground" (3.19). ?
He"s an archaeologist and has similar values to Daniel, as Teal'c pointed out - he reminded him of Daniel Jackson. And his personal mission could be to find a solution to the ongoing problems on his own planet. And he was catching up on DJ's work....

Whoever they choose, I hope it will be different than Danny! I would hate seeing a copy of Daniel who does everything the same way and is still so different. That sucks! I like the idea of a character we are already familiar with!

Oooh .. a Russian .. now that idea has its merits .. but which one ? Marina Sirtis' character was too much like Carter to join the team and they killed off most of a Russian team in S5 .. if I recall correctly. (If only DVDs were release a week after first showing so I could check).

Skaara would be interesting, but would lack the wealth of background that Daniel brings to the team.

Kawalsky would be good if they could find a good plotline to bring a version of him back/in. Another time travel adventure required instead of parallel universe?

How about a human looking alien they have met already .. one with a wealth of knowledge? But who? A Tok'ra?

I think Marty could be possible if they could get him and he came off the drugs and remembered his past. He loves conspiracies and so would fit in if the show is going to take that direction for the time being, and when the went out and about his past knowledge may be helpful. Once he calms down he isn't even annoying.

I think a good solution would be the alien archeologist from Window of Opportunity. Can't remember his name though - he would bring some of Daniels skills, but without the Earth based background, and with his own mostly unknown experiences making him suitably different.

Er, no one. Daniel is not replaceable. There are certainly many recurring characters I would like to see back on the show (like Major Davis and Skaara), but they can't "replace" Daniel. In fact, without Daniel, as far as I'm concerned, there is no SG1.
