I think they made the Vulcan that way because someone had to have some "attitude" everyone else is so nice! Anyway I enjoy it also. What is her name, I'm terrible at names until i've seen it a million times over. This show is too new for me to remember any names yet.
I've moved this to Enterprise since it is beginning to get spoilers in it about the Vulcan attitudes.
I think that their attitude is consistent with earlier versions of Star Trek. The Vulcans try to attain their Logic Philosophy by study, they aren't born to it, and for some it is a great strain, but they see it as infinitely better than being ruled by emotion.
But now for a real spoiler, I have heard that in future episodes we will find out that their haughty condescending attitude is due to fact that to Vulcans
