Teenage Mutant Turtles!

yeah it's red from fraggle rock..... oh yeah good show

i definately think that these guys are sci-fi.... come on... they're talking, butt kicking turtles.... who were taught by a rat. not your everyday romance story to be sure. however, i will admit that i watched the cartoon as a kid. religiously.... i still have all three movies, and the behind the scenes on the second one. and i watch them about once a year.

hahahaha the second one was my favorite:

"in april's kitchen....

michaelangelo: wax on wax off wax on....
raphael: MOUTH OFF

oh yeah i was obsessed with pizza after that....

In Britain they were called 'Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles' because the powers that be were afraid children would start throwing those little Ninja dart things, and kick boxing in the playground.

A complete waste of time, since everyone knew they were Ninja Turtles, and with Power Rangers and Pokemon to follow, kids have be fighting like that anyway.

Can I stir up the 'not an argument' argument again because I missed it?

Markpud is correct about his 'technically scifi', but isn't this really about what is Fantasy and what is Scifi. Science fiction is based on postulated scientific discoveries or environmental changes. Whereas fantasy can be anything it likes, even whimsical speculation.

It all comes down to where to draw the line. or where you personally draw that line. Now Lewis Carrol and C S Lewis and Tolkein are definitely fantasy, no one wants to argue that do they?

But Buffy is only fantasy if you don't believe that Vampires exist and roam the Earth today. I personally don't, but Markpud might. :D

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had a big backstory about them being washed into the sewers and reacting with some radioactive chemical -- so isn't that a scientific premise for their existence? It would be the same argument for Godzilla and giant Ants and deadly Killer Bees, etc. They are all considered to be SciFi.

The X-Men -- I'm not sure. The fact that they are in a comic book means nothing, it is whether their existence is based upon posulated science or not. The jury is out on that one.

the teenage mutant hero turtles? were they drawn different?

I thought it was exactly the same show, just the title changed. We used to get that a lot. You had 'Top Cat', for some reason we got 'Boss Cat'. He was still called Top Cat though, and the song was still Top Cat. It confused kids no end.

*lol* yeah i would have been a confused one.... how about the power rangers? were they the same?

Might?? I certainly do.... cos my gf slays em for a living :D

Guys, I'm sorry I think you guys are sooooo wrong about thinking the turtles are scifi. There fantasy not romance not drama NOT SCIFI..there is a difference trust me there not scifi. i know that for a fact there not. I don't get where you guys are getting the idea where they are, if you guys can come up with better explanions I'll take it into consideration but it's still not convensing me.

my points are what i posted previously, all fantasy stuff is scifi as well... read my prev post for details... :rolly2:

No, see I don't believe that. Fantasy and Scifi are considered two complete different catorgatiezes. Here think of it this way, go into a movie place and see that scifi and fantasy are not listed together cause there two different things.

Scifi (Science Fiction, think of the supernatural, aliens, ufo's)
Fantasy (Dragons, Witches, vampiers, Unicorns, etc)

supernatural = scifi
witches = fantasy

??

where do you draw the line, i'd say a witch is pretty supernatural.... basically there is a lot of cross-over between scifi and fantasy, and i consider it all part of the same genre...

hmmm....this one's tough...I always thought of them as basically interchangable...but I see why a hard core Sci-Fi fan would not...some things can be supernatural...like vampires...without being considered science fiction...*shugs* doesn't matter to much to me cause I like both.

Well I thought of something. I think that the Turtles and X-Men are one of those rare where you really can't put them in a catorgery. What I mean there are some shows that you know are diffently Scifi..StarGate, X-Files, Farscape. And there are those shoes you know are diffently Fantasy. I think there one of those that kind of fits in all of them almost ;). But I agree with you Diamond9697.

But like I was saying, SuperNatural, yah you would think that Witches would be in science fiction but there not really cause that fantasy that, the bad witch faces the princess. Back to what I was saying, there is a difference between Fantasy and Scifi and maybe I think you could have said this already, but maybe they could fit in both in some certarin parts. I still have to think about it, I still haven't made up my descion compelty but I still don't on the side of not believing there scifi.

I kinda agree with H_P_M.... the x-men and the teenage mutant ninja turtles are one of those shows that are a classic but can't be classified with certain things... in a way it makes its own unique category....

I think I’ve solved the great mystery of the classification for the teenage mutant ninja turtles.
‘Action’
or...I just need to get some sleep...

*nods* they could be classified under action as well..... ice i think your right

We don't need to get overheated about this. They are only Turtles that eat pizza, but the discussion is interesting.

As I said before the category you place something in has to be a personal choice. Where you draw the line is different for everyone. I had a big discussion with Red Queen over what is Hard SF and what constitutes Space Opera, and where Star Trek fitted in. It isn't either really, but it does have both elements in it. It's also had ghosts and the supernatural in it, does that make it fantasy too?

The middle ground is very large. There is a distinction made between High Fantasy such as Tolkein and Ursula K Le Guin and Logical Fantasy which is the kind of parallel universe, and scientific explanations for magic that we have here. So I guess we can call it Logical Fantasy if that helps.
