6.08: Tabula Rasa

it's a possibility -- i could see it being an issue in the future if Giles returns --

The programme doesn't seem the same without Giles.

It'd be an embarassment for them if they were to meet again. Bringing back memories, ones they probably don't want to remember.

annette :D

i thought it was a little odd that it wasnt mentioned at all before he left, and Anya hasnt mentioned it at all since.. so amybe it will be forgotten.. but thats unlikely, as little goes unpunished in the buffy-verse...

[Highlander II: b/c while it was terribly funny, that scene, it'd be nice to do some 'follow up' on something like that]

Well, you know Anya. She's likely to just blurt out something to Xander like, "Giles is a better kisser. " And she'll do it in front of everyone else, so they can exchange those looks that they do whenever Anya blurts out something.

very true ---

it's possible they'll do something like that --

guess we'll have to wait and see -

LOVED this episode - it was so hilarious! I was laughing out loud the whole time. :laugh2:

I loved Spike in this episode, he's not normally one of my favourite characters, but his lines were great - "Why not just call me Horny Giles, or Desperate For a Shag Giles?" and the whole speech when he realises he's English.

I've got to admit that I didn't get the loan shark thing until I read it on here - duh! But I didn't like that guy, and his costume seemed very rubbish for BtVS.

Giles and Anya as a couple was funny, and the bunny scene was great. But the kiss? Oh my god! I did not see that coming. Thank god it didn't go any further! Or maybe it did? After all, we didn't see it when Giles and Joyce had sex. And that would be more interesting if it got revealed later.

I can't believe Giles actually left, I'm going to miss him so much! :crying: The last time he left I knew he'd come back when Buffy came back, but this time he's really gone. Now I have to choose a new favourite character!

Over all, a great episode, my second favourite episode of season 6 so far, after "Once more, with feeling".

I just watched this episode again, and I noticed that Spike says "I saw the two of you sleeping together" (referring to Giles and Anya). But they both woke up before Spike, by the time Spike woke up they were just sitting next to each other.

Yeah - guess that could be a slight continuity error -

have to go watch it yet one more time - yeah, like I haven't watched it several already - and see - hmmmmmmm -

Anya: I don't see any booze. And I don't see Allen Font.
Giles: Who?

I'm right there with you, Giles! Who is Allen Font, and why would he be there if they were all drunk? I'm guessing that this is an American reference, so can someone explain it to me please?

[little smaug: Anya: I don't see any booze. And I don't see Allen Font.]

Alan (Allen?) Funt was the creator of a TV show called "Candid Camera". I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but it was a long ago hit program that was the first of the hidden camera shows.

Moving fire hydrants, talking mailboxes, people eating food off your plate at the diner - all these were inventions of Alan Funt, who loved to watch ordinary people's reactions to strange happenings. That was long before "shock" TV so all the pranks were funny but none of them were rude. I can remember seeing early episodes in black & white, so it's been around a long time.

The phrase, "Smile, you're on Candid Camera" and the revelation of the cameras were a staple of TV entertainment for years and the question, "Am I on Candid Camera?" was often instead of, "What the heck, is going on?"

The show is still on, in syndication, being hosted by the son of Alan Funt.

Thanks for clearing that up, Obcooke!

p.s. Allen and Alan are both spellings of the same name, I don't know which one is right, it just sounded like Allen when I heard it. :p

I think everything i love about this ep has already been mentioned - the Spike/Giles name thing, the British thing, when Spike fell off the counter and screamed, actually there was nothing in this ep i didnt absolutely adore. Theres just one thing i have to mention that i dont think anybody else has - Michelle Branch and her performance at the end. The song is so beautiful, it fits the sequence of shots perfectly, and this song made me go look her up and now i'm gonna go buy her album, so kudos to her and to whoever made it possible for her to appear on the show :)
Also, i feel like i have to mention The Kisses, particularly the Buffy/Spike one, wow :D:D:D man did i grin like a fool when i saw that :)

Michelle Branch's performance at the end of this episode is excellent and the song is perfect for the closing scenes -- very well done --

btw - Michelle's album - excellent! it's called "The Spirit Room" for anyone who was wondering --

My fave part of this episode - Buffy's line - "A vampire with a soul? How lame is that?"

actually - that whole scene from when Buffy screams to just before Spike goes on a yapping spree and won't shut up ---

lol yeah that line/scene was pretty wicked :D

I thought it was really cool how the majority of the ep was hilarious and filled with humour, and then the last 5 minutes were really sad and moving (and i guess the first couple minutes as well).

Okay - I watched this the other day, and I want to know --

If they all have 'forgotten' - then how do they know that vampires are real? and how do they remember all the other stuff? Was Willow's spell only strong enough to make them forget who they were, but remember everything else? Or, forget who they were and only the events of the last several days?

I know - I'm in that 'over-analyze' mode - but, still, it really got me that they remember everything else - like monsters are real and such - but not who they are ---

I understand Buffy knowing how to fight the vampires and kill them - that's a subconscious part of who she is as the slayer - same with Spike's vampire face, or his and Giles' accents -- or the little looks that Willow and Tara give each other --- that's all part of their subconscious selves

but the stuff about the vampires - that got me --- how do they know that?

To make excuses for the writers - it's probably very similar to the other things that they remember. Fear of vampires and, in Buffy's case, the desire to fight them are ingrained into their personalities now. Seeing the monsters at the door in their vamp faces, just clicked in their minds.

Amnesia is a funny thing. You can't remember your name, but you remember how to drive or who is President of the US? I saw a show once about a guy with a mental condition that meant that he couldn't remember his parents. He just thought they were nice older people that cared about him, but he had no memory of them other than that. He was fine about remembering everything else, but he just couldn't make the mental connection to the faces of his mother and father.

Besides, since this spell of forgetfulness was caused by an actual spell, the writers are free to make up the rules.

yes yes - but I'm 'pick apart' / 'continuity' woman -- so I like for the explanations to be there -

I know they can have the spell do whatever they want - they're the writers, but sometimes they forget about the little things that the viewers will pick up on -

It was just something that kind of threw me off as I was watching it - they weren't remembering anything else, but they remembered vampires --

I just like to start discussions... ;)

Its understandable, i do exactly the same for the X-Files, tho it can be quite hard with such a complicated myth-arc lol :)

By Highlander II
btw - Michelle's album - excellent! it's called "The Spirit Room" for anyone who was wondering --

I finally was able to get it the other day - its really great! The album version of Goodbye To You is quite a ways different from the one played at the end of the ep, its still pretty cool though.
