Micean-Greek
Aztec-Hathors tomb

I would really like others opinions and contributions

Do not forget Nurti! Indian-Aryan influence.
Yu Early Chin Dynasty
Or that Egypt is part of Africa.
If you are looking for Sub-Sarahan African influences then there are few.

Mycenean Greek then one can not for get Broca'd Divide and Tuplo of the Land of Light.

Touchstone peoples reminded me more of Central Anericans..... After the fall of the great empires...

There is also the buddism influence in the episode where Daniel meets Mother Nature and the baby harsesis in Season three - Maternal Instinct I think it is. ALthough if that's what you were referring to by "Yu Early CHin" then sorry for being redundant

Oh and the epsiode where we meet the aschen for the second time - the papers that Daniel finds remind me of the 1920s (Western/American/European style), although I think he might mention that himself during the ep

there are a whole bunch that we could describe as european (well, western) advanced cultures - the ep with the Amnesia (Past and Present), New Ground, the one with Rene Auberjonois, Window of Opportunity's archaeologist seems to have access to advanced technologies too, and seems somewhat western.

It is hard to pinpoint some of these cultures because they all speak english, and the influences from the writer's/set designers pov might not be purely from one source if you know what I mean.

What do people think about Urgo? Or the culture that built the tin man robot(s)?

Parellel developement

It is an interesting thing about the Programme that while seperated by time some cultures seem to have developed along the lines of earth cultures, others have Stagnated and some have exeede our technological developements

Off on a fictional tangent

The American colony/settlement that dissappeared- Ronoake?
could this of been a late snatch and grab by the Go'uld that explains the Pilgrims we keep meeting

I have just met Yu -the episode where Dr Jackson Masquerades as a Slave so now I can place him Series 5?

I may be a bit behide-I don't object to learning things about future episodes anticipation and all that.

The character of Yu has appeared in Season three "Fair Game" and in three Season 5 episodes... Summit/Last Stand and The Warrior.

No Tabitha... I forgot about Maternal Instinct(Season 3)/Absolute Power (Season 4) and Ascension (Season 5 and eventually to be shown Season 5) Meridian. Maternal Instinct and Absolute Power dealt with the Buddist Philosophy... Asscension was about the people of Oma Desala and didn;t get into the philosophy much if at all.

In Crystal Skull... the Alien at the end of the show is named Quetzalcoatl. (Season 3)

Demons was definately a European Middle Ages thing. (Season 3)

Emancipation was a Mongolian based culture.

Heruer was a goa'uld that took on the personification of the devil... So one could say European/Christian based.

pre-aztecs

I was just watching the season three ep "Learning Curve" this evening - Daniel gets all excited that the people they meet seem to be from a civilization that pre-dated the Aztecs. Unfortunately no-one really does anything with this knowledge, and as far as I can remember the planet is never revisited.

Seems to me that this aspect could have been explored a bit further. How did you know that is the name of the alien in Crystal Skull? Is it actually mentioned in the dialogue or just in the titles? Obviously another Aztec thread that was never played out.

oh and jsc, another question about "Demons" and/or Herur - in Demons there is never any explicit mention of which goa'uld is the devil in question, is there? I wonder if it is Herur or Sokar that was sending in the Unas?

You are correct Tabitha, is was Sokar not Hereur.... Now I am confused.... I can't remember about Hereur..... I confused the two!
Now I am drawing a blank about Hereur....
Sokar... Serpent's Song, Jolinar's Memories I and II (To Hell and Back), Was he mentioned in Demons as the Goa'uld that sent the Unas...?

Chris Judge did the voice of Quetzalcoatl... so I heard it and saw it in the credits.

They never did much with that culture that gave them the Naquadah reactor.....in Learning Curve...I guess after the nanocyte thing and the reactor gift the culture wasn't explored again... and with the time limitation I guess they just don't mention it.

herur

herur is the goa'uld who is after the harsesis in S2, his jaffa and ships get zippe away by thor in Thors Chariot. Has a pretty mean looking face, but thats about all I remember....

Thought you might have been mixed up with Sokar :p , but as for Demons I dunno - it was your mention of him being a satan-type that made me wonder..... sorry if I have confused you even more

I now can picture Hereur... with Jack's knife going into his hand through his shield...

Demons was not one of my favorite...I don't even know if a goa'uld's name was mentioned... although the Unas came through.... but I have forgotten who it worked for...

yeh - thats one of my favourite bits of the entire show so far

I am also curious about the Achen (2010 and 2001) and Aris Boch's cultures.... Apparently (?) not human but very evolved....
I suppose we should use Spoilers when talking about the Achen tho!

i am not gonna use a spoiler but i don't think i will give anything away...

aris bock (sp?) - I just watched that episode, the way it ended definitely was a lead-in in my opinion. Seems like that could be a very fruitful storyline to pursue - if you remember his backstory. Plus he was such a dude! I laffed at him a lot, he got to give the one-liners instead of just looking at Jack quizzically like most aliens do when he makes his little quips

the aschen seemed quite human to me - explains their particular expertise I think...

In fact, you know what? There are loads of storylines from all the seasons that could be pursued - do you think that perhaps they are written like that on purpose - "Well, that's a good idea, but I can't be bothered thinking of how to progress it further, I'll just leave it hanging so that it can be picked up later if anyone feels like it..."

A lot of this are just left hangling... darn it... that is where the fic comes in.... fills in the holes so to speak....

I know!!

I have been watching a lot of the old dvds recently, and find myself continually thinking "why haven't we seen these people again?", or "why is this storyline never resolved properly?".
:(

Who knows maybe season six will re explore the un anzwerd questions I am looking forward to the daniel moments so if any one out their has seen more please share
bj

Im not too sure but did the episode "The Other Side" of season 4 explore a nazi like culture?

Spoilers Season Four, 'The other Side'

Yeah, kind of. The people SG-1 encountered started a war to get rid off the people from another continent that were genetically not 'clean'.

I wouldn't have thought that was really a Nazi one, perhaps has a lot of propaganda and is racists, so to speak, but so are most wars.

Sokar, they learnt in JM/TDYK, was portraying himself as the devil: Satan. Heru'Ur at no point, as far as I am aware, refers to himself, or is referred to as the devil, but only ever merely as a Goa'uld, or God. Therefore, Sokar is the most devil-ish that has been encountered, and the only one to portray himself as a or the devil, so surely it's Sokar, not Heru'Ur?

It does make the most sense that the goa'uld was indeed Sokar, and that season kind of built up to the existence of a snake portraying himself as Satan (which makes you wonder why on earth they so casually disposed of him?)
I was just following the line of reasoning that perhaps it could have been another goa'uld, as there is never an explicit name given

Well, guess we'll never find out ...

Spoiler for end of S5
What makes you think he actually was dead? These Goa'uld's tend to have the knack of coming to life again!
