System Lords

And even worse they seemed to almost not care, plot-wise about the death. it was just so casual and by-the-way...

I have always strongly felt that apart from Apophis, the deaths of the System Lords, or any of the Goa'uld were merely just a plot foil to show us all how wonderful SG1 are. I know that most fans are obsessional about the SG1 team and I understand the need to develop them. But did it have to be at the cost of the well roundedness of the show?

The writers insisted and still insist on encouraging the "Rah rah rah, SG1...Rah rah rah America" thing. Heru Ur, Cronus, Hathor, Tanith were all casualties of the writers' desire to insist that goodies always come out on top. Unfortunately this isn't always the case but it makes for comfortable viewing. The baddy's dead, god's (the human god of course) in his heaven and all's right with the world.

Everyone is always so desperate for SG1 to win the day that sometimes rationality flies out of the window and we end up with Heru Ur fizzling out like a dud firework. When he was killed, I thought...."That's it? This build up of him being a bad baddy in a couple of other episodes and he went out without so much as a whimper? This is pathetic."

In my opinion this is why the deaths of these so called powerful System Lords were so pathetically easy and so casually carried out. Even Cronus' death, which was perhaps dealt with more in depth was used as a most transparent and pointless plot foil for Teal'c desire for revenge.

When SG1 started decimating the Jaffa like they were nothing and magically and miraculously contriving the deaths of the Goa'uld left right and centre is when I started to lose real interest in the show. Because I'm not a fan of butch, techobabbling Sam, twitching, grimacing, gurning Jack, choir boy Daniel and strong silent Teal'c there was very little left for me to take an interest in.

I'd love to be interested in Anubis, except that watching the episodes with him in are about as exciting as watching paint dry.

When are they going to remove that cloak and unveil their masterpiece or when SG1 finally kill him, and they probably will, will there just be an empty cloak on the ground? (A la Dracula, when he fizzled to dust and just leaves the cloak)

Perhaps I'll never know, because I may well have shot my TV screen out in sheer frustration over the downward spiral of a show that could have been an amazing piece of Sci Fi.

I think that the character of Baal has great possibilities, but that only means that they'll slaughter him somehow, so I am trying not to like the character too much.

In the First two episodes of season 7(it's a two parter) you'll see that Baal has a semi-large role.

I vote for Ba'al but I also would love to continue seeing Anubis and Lord Yu. This three are great characters.

The appearance of Baal wasn't really long enough, but I think he was probably the show's best bet as a baddie. I don't know whether he makes any more appearances in further Season 7 episodes. He's certainly a lot better than Anubis that's for sure. What Stargate really needs is a Star Wars Emperor Palpatine lookalike - I don't think!

Season Seven Spoilers follow so all beware and continue at your own peril:

Unfortunately, the writers deal with Yu rather badly in these first two episodes. After building him up as a possible ally to earth, they then turn him into a doddering, possibly insane old guy whose lived too long and who spends too long in the sarc because he's obviously at the end of his symbiote life and whose First Prime has to take command in order to carry out the mission that Yu agreed to take on. The first prime says that Yu had taken to giving orders and then forgetting key points in the plan, using the sarc all the time and mumbling to himself. In fact on many other forums, there is a seething annoyance that they've done this. The same seething annoyance that I'm feeling. What the heck do these Stargate writers think they are doing?

How the hell they managed to get there from the assertive guy in past seasons, because only a few months could have passed, is anyone's guess. My guess is that the writers have partially taken on board that many of us are annoyed with the way that SG1 have easily killed the others and this is their idea of getting rid of another System Lord, but by putting him out to grass in the Goa'uld version of the Old Folk's Home.

What can I say........sigh........if they don't kill all the promising guys off, then they find some other way to marginalise them. Depressing, depressing, and definitely depressing.

:(

yeah ani it is annoying im also sad that they wrote him up that way, hopefully he will come around and get better to the point that he will be an ally of earth again:rolly2:

I would like to see more of may characters that haven't appeared that often. Like Baal, Bastet, Kali, Morrigan, Olokun and Yu. Where season 7 will not be airing in the UK until september, so I don't know if these characters have appeared in any episodes yet. But it would be interesting to see these Goa'uld, and how evil these Goa'uld are.

I think I know which ones are more likely to appear, but I think I will say no names.

i would like to see more of okl. Every host we haveen, more or less has been white, why is that. I would like to know why and where did oklun find his coloured host.

Given what proportion of Jaffa are non-white, I'd say it was a pointless question. Queue up Teal'c, Fro'tak, Rak'nor, even K'Tano/Imhotep and more than I can be bothered to think of.

yeah why do u think that is, i mean any one got ideas on why so many jaffa are african american:(:rolly2:

mayreally have a life of luxury tanning themselves on the beach all day
:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

The Jaffa are a genetically engineered species therefore probably shouldn't precisely match any of the regional variations of humanity; there is no perfect racial group to cast from. Using prosthetics and makeup is probably overkill considering there are no major cosmetic differences between the Jaffa and human species. I am certainly prepared to live with Jaffa being cast indiscriminately from near where Stargate is produced as part of the "Suspension of disbelief" list. It is a very minor production compromise.

It's weird when the sys Lords ally with Earth. Can't decide if it makes them 'tamer' or not.

Shame you can only vote for one on the poll though. :(
