I can say that it is not Ryans fault but mgm's .. it has to do with were the show can and cant be marketed and licensed..so blaming Ryan is taking the wrong course on this .. want to blame some one blame mgm for it.. only U.S residents are able to access the site.. there is a way around it that a few people have found.. i dont know the way but some one out there does..so please everyone dont blame Ryan for something thats out of his control and that he can do nothing about.. just found out that if you cant access it go to megaproxy.com it will give you what you need to access the site .. so instead of protesting or raising hell get all the facts then petition MGM.. make sure its done in professional manner and not just the rantings of a bunch of people and MGM may listen altho I doubt it will do any good

Yeah, I think we have all the facts now. That's what I started this thread for. To make sure that I wasn't going in blind. Thanx, Wolfpac.

I have no idea if Ryan has a forum. If he does, let me know where it is please. Sheesh Ghost, calm down. Don't make any suggestive profanity here, keep it to a PG-13 post please. I am trying to, after the thread made by Highlander II.

it was pg 13

hence no words were actually used in that post

I have blamed no one for anything:

well that would be a first.

I was merely attemptimg to figure out what is going on, as several of my acquaintances cannot access the site. The closest I have come to actually "blaming" anyone was here:

"Oh, I see. I go to MGM."

oh yep here we go :)

All fixed now? Can we let this thread die a natural death or do we need to get the zats out and make it disappear :dead:

Defense of Showtime

It has nothing to do with racism, first off, Showtime is only liscensed to show SG-1 in America (its an American television cable station), and because of this, I imagine that they decided it would be a good idea to make it only accessable to people who live in the United States. To my knowledge, Gatecon is only liscensed to sell its merchandise to U.S. and Canada. It makes sense, England (region two) got the entire second, third, and some of the fourth season SG-1 DVDs and the United States is only up to Season One. We didn't go off screaming racism because they haven't released the rest of the DVDs here. Sky One aired the rest of season five already, the United States is only around half way through, that isn't racist, its just the way things are because of laws and "stuff."
If you are going to scream racism, I should say something that may suprise you all -- all the writers on SG-1 are Canadian. Not because they aren't great writers (we all know they are), but because there is actually a stipulation that says no one except Canadians can write for the show. Its not just writers too, staff, etc. are only Canadian as well. If anything, that seems racist.

a) although its horrible, it is very standard practice in the licensing of "products" to limit scope to marketplace (as for Ausgates range, which when they came out I couldn't buy her ein the uK, not sure about now)

b) we need someone like SkyOne who has a license in other countries to have their own (even dupilicate copies of the Showtime) website

c) since there is no-one except MGM who have global licensing rights, only they could do a global website

d) no one but Canadians - there goes my dream (only started yesterday mind!) of writing a genuine episode from my fanfic ideas... I wonder if I could split the royalties with a Canadian staff writer?

Mike,

Out of interest, where does that limitation come from? Producers? Canadian writers union? Some executive?

hey Jed, you could be a fabulous and wealthy writer on SG-1, with a little help from two dozen un-mentioned co-writers from ASciFI/AusGate....

Just an aside from my boss (who has no interest in SG-1 at all  ) but has experienced Canadian parochiality.

Apparently it is all to do with protecting national skills and peoples. They just don't want all us highly talented foreign types invading their beautiful country and nicking all their jobs. He knew a mechanic, very highly trained and experiences, moved to Canada. Wasn't allowed by law to be a mechanic until he passed Canadian trade-tests and so on. He had to call himself an unskilled labourer. Odd huh?

This sounds like a variation on the same thing. Since the show is produced in Canada, the writing must be done by Canadians. So - we either have to get citizenship or something else... [assuming we really can write sufficiently good material for new episodes]

PS. And before this sets off a war or anything:
a) the stuff above is hearsay
b) several other countries do very similar things too [not least the US green card system]

thanks P'teppic i knew about the thing about haveing to take a test before getting a job if you move there.

OK. I won't be moving to Canada in the near future.
Not sure what you have to do to be able to work and live in Britain but I don't think it's quite so strict over here.
