i read the hobbit waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before i read LOTR. i hadn't even read it by the time the film was out, but have read it 8 times since.
i was on holiday when i started to read it, but it didn't reall have much time, and the pages were falling out cos it was a very old book, so i had to wait for my daddy to get me a new one before i could read it, and i got one for christmas!
