An interesting point.

A lot of the vehicles the Anderson's designed and used, bear close resemblence to vehicles that are being designed now.

The Angel fighter is a case in point.
The small Canard wings are still considered revolutionary some thirty years later. They allow the use of advanced 'fly by light' systems to give fighters superiority in the air. (The use of the three planes was also tested on the Saab Viggen and Eurofighter in their design phase).

Others to look out for:

Fireball XL5 and HoToL

The warship that shot TB2 down is a trimiran- The USN and RN are currently testing HMRS Triton, a trimiran warship, capable of prodigeous speeds for the power output and size.

Lapy P's Roller- Rolls Royce produced one, as did Panther some years later.

The Terrahawk Roller is also being tested by General Motors.

Back to the subject in hand, I've always found 'Captain Scarlet' a bit too odd for my liking as it didn't really make much sense (to me any way!).

The backstory is complicated, and I don't remember understanding it as a child either, but I think it was covered in the very first episode.

IIRC Captain Black and Captain Scarlet were on some peace mission to Mars, but for some reason Captain Black attacked the Martian City. Only instead of being destroyed it rebuilt itself. Captain Black is killed but reanimated by the Mysterons as their agent. They try to do this to Scarlet but fail and he becomes indistructable.

After that it just becomes a 'War of the Worlds'.
