Jonas' people ask Earth for aide in an impending war, and SG-1 must stop them from using a weapon of mass destruction in a preemptive strike against their enemies.

well yeah...but it was one heck of a plot. i mean it kept us guessing. this is one that you gotta watch twice to get it all...and it's so poignant at the end

If this is confusing, so is the eps. But I mean that in a good way. The plot is very, very complex, you're not sure what's going on…but it all makes sense in the end.

The gate's opening, receiving audio transmission. Commander hale of the Kelownan defense council is calling, he wants to reestablish contact.

Go to briefing room, the Kelownan want to reestablish contact, jack asks Sam if she diplomatically told them where to stick it. They tried to frame Daniel. Jonas says it's not fair to judge a whole population on the actions of a few scientists. And we do need the naquadira, whether jack likes it or not.

Commercial

Jonas is in Danny's lab, he has tons of plants. Teal'c comes to see him. Jonas is uneasy. He doesn't know if he can do it. His people think that he's a traitor. Teal'c tells him how it was for him. What Teal'c did, he did for his people, in time they came to understand this.
Jonas doesn't think his people will ever come to terms with what he did.

Three people come through the gate, commander hale, ambassador dreylok, Dr. Kieran.
They introduce them, the Kelownan snub Jonas, especially dr k.

To the briefing room.
The sgc is sore about framing Daniel, the Kelownan are sore about the naquadira.
The Kelownan are willing to talk, seems their enemies, Trelania and Andarian are going to sign a treaty against Kelownan. Thus putting the Kelownan at risk. The K's have a sudden abundance of naquadira.
The K's want weapons, and will trade them for naquadira. If earth doesn't help them, they'll use their naquadira bomb.

To Danny's lab
The K's can't compete. If it goes to a war, the Trelanians and Andarians will cream them.

Hammond asks jack's opinion. Jack says no. where will it stop.

The gate opens. And dr. Kieran comes to tell them that the non-aggression pact has been signed. Kieran asks to see Jonas. He's got tons of plants and fish tanks. dr. k chastises Jonas, says he's always been a dreamer.

Jonas says his people need to work together, instead of fighting. Dr. k says he's part of the resistance, trying to over throw the govt so they can make peace.

Commercial

Jonas isn't convinced. There is wide spread discontent with their govt always fighting. People on all 3 continents want it to stop.

Back to the briefing room, Jonas has filled them in. they hope that by launching a coup, it can delay the test at the least.

Sg-1 is to go to the planet and see if they'll trade non-military tech.

They go through the gate to Kelowna. Jonas knows he can't stay. He'll be arrested for treason. Back to Kelowna (finally used that big round thing in the basement)
First minister valis, knows Jonas.
We're in the K's briefing room.
They're talking about continuing the negotiations, Sam asks about the naquadira. They have 300 pounds of the stuff. Sam wants to see it, they won't let her.
Teal'c asks what they want in return. They want planes.
They offer antibiotics in return. The K's really, really, really want planes.
They talked for 4 hours, agreed on nothing.

To another place
SG-1 is meeting with Dr. k. they want dr. k to meet with them and the resistance.

A warehouse
Dr k is wandering around. He meets with a contact. They express doubts about his loyalty

To the meeting room
Jonas meets with Valis. Tells him that he made his choices and will stick with them.
Jonas extols the virtues of sg-1 and the sgc. Jonas' people face total defeat Valis says.
Valis asks Jonas to serve his country…a second chance. He asks him to ask a friend. Dr.k hasn't been the same. He's acted weird, Valis asks Jonas to watch over him. If Jonas does that, he'll get a full pardon.

Commercial

Back to dr k's lab. He's holding his head, says he's tired. Jonas comes in. dr k trusts Jonas. Jonas is acting spooky.

The conference room
They want surface to air bombers. They want quick and decisive victory. Someone comes in. they have intelligence that the Trelanians are massing at the border. Sam offers a negotiation team. They say no, the other sides don't know about the gate. Sam says it's about time they did, it might be a unifying idea. Valis says if it was so unifying, they why doesn't earth tell everyone.(QUESTION…SINCE WHEN DOES OFF WORLD FOLKS KNOW THAT THE STARGATE IS CLASSIFIED???)

To dr k's office
He tells him that people are disappearing. Tomis lee has disappeared. Dr k tells them that the resistance is ready to move. That they can take every building but this one. He wants sg-1's help. He tells them that he's been smuggling out naquadira.

Commercial

Back on Kelowna
Dr. k is walking through the streets. Jonas grabs him, pulls him into an ally. Someone sees them and shoots at Jonas and dr. k. Jonas shoots back.
They're in a warehouse.
Running up and down stairs. Dr k falls.

Infirmary
They found dr k lying in the street. Jonas convinced them to let him come back to earth for treatment

Briefing room
Sg-1 is talking. Jonas suggests that if they help the resistance it might help. Sam says they can track the naquadira.

To the ally
Sg-1 is there, Sam picks up the naquadira.

Infirmary
Dr k wakes up. Tells Jonas they need to stop the first minister from using the bomb. They had no idea what they were creating

Janet sees that dr k has schizophrenia. Paranoia, delusions, maybe even hallucinations

Jonas goes to Kelowna
He needs to talk to the first minister.

Sam and co are searching out the naquadira. In an abandoned house place.

Commercial

Back in the deserted house. Sam finds a lot of naquadira stashed in a chest.

Conference room
Valis wants to use the bomb to save his people. Jonas tries to tell them that the goa'uld can kill everyone from space. He says they're in risk from the goa'uld. If they continue to use it, the goa'uld will eventually use it. They can smell it, literally.

Jack shows up, tells Jonas that dr k is nuts. The whole resistance is a fantasy. It's time to go home.

Dr silas and dr lee were taken to a mental facility. Exposure to the naquadira makes people nuts, induces the schizophrenia.
Long-term exposure will create brain damage.

They brought back dr k's stash of naquadira. Sam sent a message, no reply. The Kelownan may already be at war. There is no cure for dr. k.

They're gonna take dr k to mental health. His condition is irreversible. He's hallucinating, tells Jonas that the coup will happen. Jonas reassures him, tells him that he saved the planet.

Next week

The other guys…and well I laughed out loud at the previews <G>

thanks, sky, for the details. Two things bother me. You mention the Kelownan somehow knowing about the secret nature of the Earth Stargate. I'm wondering that SG-1 got to search out the resistance's base without being escorted by Kelownan officials. That just don't seem possible.

And yes, next week looks like a keeper. It might keep me sane next week just working my way to Friday night.

Am I the only one who thinks that Jonas might be a spy?

this may have been covered in meridian. what if daniel mentioned it to jonas when he was there? they did spend a lot of time together. and at that point in time, jonas would have reported that stuff to his superiors or the room could have been bugged

So you guys didn't notice that "Jonas" was different in some of his conversations with Valis or that Valis kept holding his head.

I thought there were enough clues that I didn't find the episode that compelling -- though it had some interesting touches like the Earth folk talking like the Tolan ("how can we trust that you'll only use it for defense?")

I thought the pacing was a bit slow.
:eek:

~~~~~~~~~~~
do you mean dr kieran? dean stockwell did hold his head several times, a symptom of the brain damage.
Valis was the tall, skinny guy with the beard (we dubbed him creepy guy )...i didn't notice him holding his head.
one thing, dr k's brain damage came from years of naquadria exposure...which means if the kelownans use the bomb, they're gonna contaminate their whole planet with the radiation and eventually the survivors will succumb to the radiation as well.
Well, he seems so earnest about fitting into Earth. Which you could argue is his cover for making all sorts of studies into Earth-stuff. But he's seeming to be facinated by Earth plants and goldfish. His sending the plans of the X302 or X303 will do the Kelownan little good when they barely have jet propulsion going. He'd have to send them a lot of stuff. There also has to be opportunity for him to make contact via the Stargate and we just don't have that shown. Base security would be monitoring/preventing that. And if his people blow themselves up he's got no one to report his findings to. It was implied by the lack of communications at the end of the ep that the world was a bit busy.
It's still bugging me that the Kelownan officials were so busy with their crisis they "let" SG-1 smuggle Dr. K's cache of Naquadia-whatsit back. Am I seriously to believe they just strolled past with boxes of the stuff? Did they somehow lie and say it was part of Dr. K's personal effects and property?
Good episode, it was good to see Dean Stockwell as a guest star, as the mentor of Jonas. I enjoy this episode especially because it shows the return of Jonas to his planet. Also, at some times it was very confusing to me, specially in the Jonas scenes. After Janet's explanation of the illness I understand why it was so confusing. It was only in his mind. :lol:
Thanks Sky for the review of this one..it sounds like an intresting one! :D
I also noticed that Jonas was talking different (like a robot or something). I actually thought that he might be a clone. But in the end it all made sense. The head rubbing was also a tip off....but I didn't make the connection right away. Good ep!:D
Thank you so much for the review!
What did it show on the trailer for the next eppie?
reminded me alot of Beautiful Mind...will watch again today to see how I interpret it.
One question...how did you interpret the scene where Jonas told dr. k he was being followed? The scene seemed very "fabricated". It just wasn't very smooth to me. If they where actually being chased...then I think it was terribly shot. But if there was some other explanation...I may look at it ina different way.
Any thoughts???
the whole scene where jonas and dr k are being chased is all in dr k's mind. that's why everyone is so off...it's not real
