ok, the batman comics have been around for years, with several short spinoff series (in the comic books), and they are by far my favorite! i love them! ever since i was a kid batman was my favorite in the superfriends, and i started reading the comics whenever i could get a chance. now granted i haven't read all that many, but i still love them. how about you guys?

Tokyogirl, if you love Batman that much, how come you haven't even given him a capital 'b'? :wink2: j/k
Personally I think his name should almost always be spelled with ALL capitals :D

What can I say? I am perhaps not Batman's biggest fan, but the character is incredibly compelling, and his extended family of related characters, Robin, Nightwing, Oracle and Black Canary make up my my favourite comic book characters ever.
Gotham and the darkness therein is the exact opposite of Superman's shiny and new Metropolis, the heroes' characters are perfectly reflected in their surroundings and even in their nemeses. Lex Luthor? Ppffffft! The Joker is the scariest villian out there, vicious, insane, and downright gruesome. Anyone who has read the Alan Moore one-shot "The Killing Joke" will doubtless agree with me.

Are you still reading the comics Tokyogirl? I have let them fall by the wayside while I have been in Canada, but I look forward to catching up on all I have missed when I get home in October. Especially Bats n co!

yeah i still read them when i get the chance. it used to be a lot easier cause i would just borrow them from a friend when he got them, but now i never see him anymore. :( but i still read them when i get a chance. we went through a period in high school where people were stealing the notes people would write to each other and gossip about what was in them. so to help stop this we all took nicknames from batman. i was poison ivy. it was a lot of fun. :)

oh, and in case you didn't know yet, the next batman movie will be 'batman vs. superman'. if you go to mtv.com they have some stuff from the director. the casting hasn't even begun yet, but it looks like it'll be pretty good:D

p.s. the reason i didn't use capital letters is because i almost never do. that shift key is sooooo far....

Yep I have posted some info about the movie over in SciFi films Gen Chat. I think I am looking forward to it, but not too sure... They could really stuff it up, and I am unlikely to like their casting choices. Fingers crossed, I suppose.

Have you read any of the Batman graphic novels? The Dark Knight Returns is just MUST READ material. It really is incredible. I didn't like the gritty art at first, but it suits the story better than any other style, I think.
The recent follow up "The Dark Knight Strikes Back" is not so good, but still enjoyable.

All I can say to that is

hehehe:D eh, well, whatcha gonna do?

i haven't read any of the novels yet. are they really good? do you read any of the like spinoff type ones they have? i read one short series (like 3 or 4 issues) that was supposed to be like an alternate world where catwoman was the hero and batman was the bad guy. it was really cool:coolyello

The alternate-reality style spin-offs I don't have much experience in. I remember reading one ages ago where the Dark Knight was ACTUALLY a Knight, as in Armour, the Middle Ages and everything. They can put an interesting spin on things, but I have always felt that to get full value from them you need to know all the tiny little details of the characters.

well this one was good because it was basically saying 'what if selina's parents had been killed. what if bad things had happened to bruce wayne. what if they flipped places'

Batman is still good & even now films are still being made about him & doing rather well

the last one. i'm sorry but that wasn't exactly what you call a 'good movie'. i think one thing that really helped to ruin it was alicia silverstone. don't get me wrong, i love her work most of the time, but she was terrible in this. she made batgirl totally cheesey. the other thing that ruined it was the combination of mr. freeze and poison ivy. they just don't mix. that's why i like the combinations from the other movies and the comic books. my favorite is the ones with harley and poison ivy together.
