hi guys-stargate box set

hey guys i am new here, hope you all dont bit!, i am LAL i was wondering if the stargate box set is going to get released in the uk? and if so when?, i started the collection but had to sent back 3 of the 8 as they had stuff missing, thanx for your help and also where is the cheapest place to buy the singles? thanx

I don't know that the Uk has out the box sets, but than I'm buying the DVD's and they're singles. I get mine from Blackstar. probably not the cheapest, but I've been them since the first DVD came out and I trust them. The one time I had problems, they got back with me the same day.

Not bad considering I live in Tacoma, WA. On the west coast of the US.

I have a regionless DVD player - that's how I can play the UK DVDs.

Amazon.com has Region 1 DVD box sets -- S1 is already out, S2 will be out in early Sept., S3 is rumored for release in Jan. 2003. Presumably S4 will show up around early summer and S5 in early fall if they follow their usual about every 6 months release schedule. Depends on demand, I suppose, so we'd all better be demanding

Amazon.ca has just started up and is allowing pre-orders for R1 box sets in Canada, probably only S1 & S2 at present, but should be following the US parent company fairly soon in most aspects.

Region 2 (UK) has DVDs through I think S5, but as singles. If you have a region-free DVD player and want box sets, then Amazon.com is nicely priced and mostly available, but doesn't have all the seasons yet. If you want more seasons now, then Amazon.uk may be the better bet.

Since I don't purchase video tapes anymore if DVD is (or will be) available I don't know about what tapes are being marketed.

The last UK [Region 2] DVD for Season 5 is on pre-order and is #25, I believe. Blackstar just let me know a day or so ago that they've shipped #24 to me. That's episodes #17-#20. There never did release DVD's of S1 in the UK, that I'm aware of.

The Region 1 [US/Canada] Season 2 set is due out the first week of Sept [mine's on pre-order at Amazon].

And on a slightly seperate note: Season 1 of Babylon-5 is due out in Noverber.

I can't imagine why they would bother releasing UK box sets, when from their viewpoint they have already released all the component episodes in a more lucrative 4-per-disc format.

For UK series 1, the only episodes available are 1, 19, 20, 21 (on Volume 1), plus "Hathor" and "Thor's Hammer" in the spare two slots on Volume 7.

Volume 25 (the last two eps of series 5) are due out the last Monday of September. I would imagine, based on history, that sometime next Spring they will start the Series 6 discs.

Region 2 Box Set

I've just been on the HMV website and looked under their forthcoming releases DVD chart and guess what?

Stargate SG-1 Complete Season 1 Box Set will be release on 21st October!

As it was release in America a few years ago then I can only guess that this will be a Region 2 release!

It's about time too! I don't know if there will be any extras or not though!

It's been confirmed! In the last DVD of Season 5, there was a leaflet saying, "Due to popular demand, the Season 1 DVD box set will be released on Region 2 in October (21st to be exact)."

This is SO cool! I can't wait!

Yes, absolutely.... as stated above, there is an enclosure in the R2 season 5 final disc (episodes 21+22) which says:

"Due to overwhelming demand by Stargate SG-1 fans, the complete set of Season 1 episodes will be available to own for the first time on DVD in the UK from October 2002."

The box set is shown in photograph, and it does have UK film classification logos on it - but otherwise is the same as the US R1 box set... I'll bet it is just a NTSC->PAL transfer...

[And I was intending to post a similar announcement to the above, but was too busy watching the two episodes :blush: ]

But just a minor warning for the youth of region2 - this is the full DVD cut of the box-set, and therefore picks up the highest BBFC rating of all the episodes: 18! (which is applied for the nudity and snakey stuff in COTG)

It means it is illegal in the UK to supply the box-set to anyone under the age of 18.

If the five discs were sold separately, only the first disc (episodes 1-4) would have that limitation....

That's up to you. But, although the 12A has now become advisory, the 15 and 18 are still mandatory.
So any shopkeeper or parent who sells/gives it to you is breaking the law.

But I agree - I would have thought a 15 would be enough for some small nudity and the alien symbiotes attacking a human in the manner it does.
