Columbo!

Currently on a Columbo binge. I've always liked Columbo, but doing a binge makes me more critical, and as we go along the series, I find that the evidence gets more and more flimsy. The murder always confesses, but I feel most of these won't hold up in court. They'll come to their senses, hire a good lawyer, and either there will be just circumstantial evidence, or any evidence would have been obtained without a warrant or as a poisoned fruits. This gives me the idea for an anti-series starring a lawyer who is hired by the murder Columbo has caught, and who tears the case apart in court. He always has Columbo on cross and everytime says "Just one more thing." during the cross.

That could be a fun series.

There was a short-lived Mrs Columbo tv series staring Kate Mulgrew which ran from 1979 to 1980 .

Thankfully it was short-lived, as you said.

BTW, there is an episode of Columbo where Kate Mulgrew tries to kill Columbo and his wife.

its titled Murder is a Parlor Game it was done in 1979

They doe and epside in 1990 with somewhat similar theme Rest in Peace Mrs Columbo with Helen Shaver

I wonder if they will ever reboot this one.

Even thought there Is long er any surprises , This is one series that I can watch and rewatch.

It was a little like Batman in that it attracted movie stars as "special guest villain."

I haven't seen all the shows--even from the 70s. I used to watch it on A&E but they didn't have all of them.

And there are apparently two Columbo themes:

This one is probably the more familiar one:

Before my vocal cords aged out, I used to do a number of impressions, Peter Falk and Jimmy Steward being two of my best.

Back around '85-ish, KUDL FM in Kansas City used to run contests. A recurring theme was you would call in and they would then call back and broadcast your answering machine recording and the audience would call in votes. Single-string elimination thing.

The first time I recorded Jimmy Steward answering and clopping around calling out for us, ending with the standard "They're not here. Record your message at the beep." then a silent delay of some five seconds before "C'mon, beep." beeeep. I won. When I showed up for my coffee cup (which I still have) the receptionist said it was the first time a message ran the entire day without fail. Nice.

The next year I had Columbo answer and just above the sounds of chalk marking on linoleum ask questions about who might have any motives, including a "Just one more thing, would you have any idea where their sons might be? Charlie in particular?". Same thing happened. It went all day and I got another coffee mug (which I also still have).

Wish they'd gone a step further on the mugs but at least they have the call letters and their slogan "House of Rock".

In an interview, Peter Falk said he had to lobby really hard for the show's premise of showing the perp up front. Brilliant.

Also a great comedian - you should check out "Vibes" with Cindy Lauper and Jeff Glodblum. The three work great together.
