animals or birds and no I don't mean the planet they visited in Bane (we know about the "BIG BUGS" that was there) btw, what happen to that planet and its "BUGS" problem? :disturbed :errrr: :freak1:

I don't know. I was wondering that too and I'm actually in the process of writing a fic that deals with a couple of animals and they have to call in a Veternarian to see whats wrong with it.

But as far as i can recall right now, the tollans didn't have any animals so Sam gave Narim that cat. Other than that, I don't know.

oh, and didn't the nox world have a flying bird of some sort. The Fenri wasn't it. That's right, Teal'c described them as "big dragonflies with teeth."

I guess it wasn't a bird then, it was insectlike. :)

There's that domesticated animal that dragged Daniel on Abydos...There was a Wolf and crow in Spirits...if Spirits is the right name for that episode...

I'd forgotten about that thing that dragged Daniel. What was it called. Oh well.

Yeah, that's the name of the episode.

Horses in "Emancipation" - did they have dogs too?

So, they accept that everyone in the universe (pretty much) speaks either extant English (with colloquialisms and modern variations), or a basically-unadapated ancient language (e.g. Egyptian by the Goa'uld / Abydonians), but they don't feel able to show lots of animals as being unrealistically independently evolved on other planets? :p :p

Just for the record, the animal that drags Daniel on Abydos is called a Mastige (I think that's how it's spelt).

In the episode 'The Tomb' there was that alien creature in the ziggurat, there could be more on the planet.

And of course when they're outside in 'Gamekeeper' there are birds, cos there are trees nearby, and where you get trees, you'll generally get birds.

I never knew or heard anything about a tree and bird correlation. Can you explain that?

I just meant that, certainly here in Britain and probably in Canada, you can't really avoid birds nesting in trees, and definitely not in heavily wooded areas. So therefor you're going to get various avians about if you film near trees.

Of course, I am talking deciduous trees and not really other types.
Anyone else understand what I mean, or am I just talking rubbish?

I'd say that if you're writing a fic, anything goes. I've created a whole race of whale relatives for one fic and a birdless ecology for another. Insects filled the void. They would do that here on Earth if something took away the birds. I'm thinking back to First Commandment where the writers had the extreme UV kil all the daytime animal life above ground, so no birdies...for me, it just begged the question: just what did the natives hunt for food then? But seriously, for a story you can make a creature up and have some vet examine it. The trick is making the reaction of the vet be believeable... maybe go find one and ask what one would do when presented with an unfamiliar animal?

do you suppose the Unas could be labled as an animal? & what about all the symbiots swimming around in the lake? Did they have any farm animals in ...what was it called A hundred days? the one where Jack is stuck casue a meteorite barried the gate...

The little energy balls in "Prodigy" could be considered indigenous life forms, but I don't know if you'd call them animals.

true...of coure we ourselves could be considered the 'human animal'?...I guess we then get into the whole u & them thing...though personally I think the cat next door is in a conspiricy plot to assasinate my dog...;)

Yep, they had dogs too. They looked a little like German Shepards to me. Could they possibly have yak's too since Sam said that the dress smelt like one?

I thought it was the tent that she had to stay in that smelled like "ransid yack"

Oh & does that mean that the Tolen are vegitarians?

The planet's civilization was killed off by the bugs. Which means the bugs couldn't have been native to the planet, otherwise the people's civilization would never have gotten as far as it did. So.. what if the bugs were brought through the Stargate?
I'd thought about this a while ago so please noone steal my idea for a mini-fic of mine where they go to the planet where the bugs originated and see other life there, meaning these creatures must have sume resistance to the bug venom and they use that to save a people who are being wiped out... okay, you guys can have it.
