1.08: Rapture

Sarah's story seems to be the one most likely to follow a different path from the first time round, so to speak. Knowing that her relationship with her husband will fail, and she will end up marrying her boss must put an enormous strain on her - on top of the worry about her son. I mean, if you knew you were going to fall in love with someone before it happened, isn't that knowledge likely to stuff it all up.

I think her son will die, her husband will leave her (possibly before her son's death this time), but she will not find happiness with her boss, and perhaps her chances of getting onto the shuttle in 2007 will fade altogether... What happens if none of the crew end up on that shuttle? It is easily possible - Kurt is probably the only one who hasn't already had his chances possibly ruined.

I hadn't considered that until now. But, I think if they get to that point, without having changed something fundamental in our world, they are likely to see the same events (world destruction) happen all over again, and therefore it doesn't really matter.

(unless you subscribe to what RangerOne SG13 SOR posted in next weeks episode thread -- that the Seeker could repeatedly send them back again, and again, until they get it right -- if they aren't there then that obviously can't occur.)

wow, I hadn't noticed that point from RangerOne - it is remarkably similar to what I had posted in the 'temporal mechanics' thread that I was reminded of Groundhog Day by some elements of the show.

Weird.

On the other hand, and following from yet another idea from RangerOne (in the 'finale' thread), perhaps they will all end up in the shuttle - basically with the same outcome as the original timeline, and the Seeker steps in with the solution at that point...

Er, I'm sorry Tabitha, it was your post that I'd read it in. I didn't go back and check, and was sure it was RangerOne. I think I mixed it up with the other point you mentioned.

Personally, I hope they don't get stuck in some 'Groundhog Day' type loop, but if the series is a success, and goes on longer than five years, they might have to do that.

Oh, okay :) I couldn't be bothered going back and reading all the previous bits and pieces to see who said what...

I can't imagine a good way to do the time-loop thing. There would have to be a way to radically alter what was happening the second (or rather, third) time around, or else too many plot elements would have to be the same.
