A team of 5 should be no problem really. The various Star Trek series have managed larger ensemble casts without terrible dissatisfaction of either actors or audience. If RDA is working a reduced schedule, a team of 5 might make up for it and allow greater flexibility for the writers.

And finally JQ might be able to develop as a character in his own right, instead of a pale shadow of DJ.

Well, I'm intrigued to see what the writers come up with if the team comprises 5 members. For me, having both DJ and JQ is the best of both worlds

Recurring means "recurring."

Probably in the same sense as Janet Fraser is "recurring." With Jonas scheduled to appear in only 6 episodes, it's doubtful he will be a member of the SG-1 team anymore, especially since the producers have said that Daniel Jackson will resume his role "up front" in every episode.

I would imagine that since Mallozzi has said that the studio *asked* Shanks to return, they met his terms and conditions to play the role again. Since he originally left because of underutilization of the character, the scripts, as Mallozzi has said, will now go back to more focus on the original Mythological and discovery 'feel' where Daniel Jackson was more appropriate.

Perhaps the new writing focus will create better opportunities for the Jonas character, in the episodes where he appears.
