7.07: Conversations with Dead People

[VAMPette: About the chip - was it working earlier in 'Beneath me' when Spike is fighting the worm monster and then Anya turns it back to a man - did he react with pain then when he hits him by mistake?]

A great deal of pain, in fact.

[VAMPette: (Quote - OB)...

- BBJoyce tried to trick Dawn into mistrusting Buffy...]

Now, to be accurate, I was qouted out of context. I said right before this quote in bold type!

"We saw it and we still don't know what we saw!"

And then later in the post I speculate:

"In the first episode, both Buffy and BBBuffy tell us that "it's about the power". Could they both be referring to the power of The Slayer? Could the BB's goal be to corrupt the power of The Slayer to do his bidding?...

In that light, could BBJoyce actually be the real spirit of Joyce warning Dawn that at some point she is going to have to act on her own to stop Buffy?"

So for the record, I wasn't then or even now, entirely sure of what we saw or what it means and am willing to agree that any number of possibilities could come to pass.

[VAMPette: And poor Johnathan - I'll miss him, he was dead sweet...]

DEAD sweet, hee hee :p, I get it. Good one.

A good episode, I don't have a lot to add to what's already been said, and whatever I did have planned I've forgotten in the time it's taken me to read through everyone else's comments!

I'm sure it'll come back to me...

Give it time, markpud.

Most of us have found that this episode kinda percolates in our head and days later we still are speculating on what it really means.

It also helps to watch it again, if you can.

It covers a lot of ground and even though it seems to be a very significant part of the season, it lends itself to a lot of interpretations.

I thought this was a really excellent episode.

And I take it OMWF is the only other ep with the title displayed? I wonder why they showed the title of this one? To make sure we noticed how every character was having a similar experience?

I have watched a few episodes ahead now, so I am trying hard to remember exactly what was going through my head whilst watching this one. My main reaction was that I can't believe Jonathan is dead! I thought his little speech about missing school was really sweet - it is quite similar to how I feel about my school years actually. Although rest assured I am not now part of any evil trio. :D

Confusion over what was going on with Spike. I wondered if perhaps he was turning that girl he was with. What is up with the chip?

I had hoped Buffy's newly-vamped-old-schoolmate wouldn't die, but I guess his schick was really only a one-time thing. very enjoyable nonetheless.

And someone has got to tell Dawn how to scream properly - I have to turn the volume down when she's in trouble to avoid having my eardrums shattered

At least it would be something different to put on your Friends Reunited blurb - you know, taking a year out from study, travelling round Austraila, met the man of your dreams, oh and by the way, have hooked up with two old classmates in a evil bid to conquer the world...

It was strange how Jonathan was reminiscing when he went to the school, since it looks nothing like the school he went to!You can tell the budget is bigger now, no more re-using of the same corridor and one class-room :D

It was a shame to see him killed, he was perhaps the most redeemable of the 2 (3) nerds, but also the weakest - the two are not unrelated.

So the thing they uncovered - the hellmouth? Because I don't recall it having that symbol on it before, just a large crack in the ground, with a bottomless pit effect going on..

Meanwhile, back at chez Summers... blimey, the place got trashed!! Poor Dawn, I felt for her in this episode, her experience was the most powerful in terms of demonstration of strength from the big bad. I'm inclined to believe as she did that the BB was fighting to prevent Joyce from visiting Dawn, so since Joyce managed to get through, we can summise that the BB is not invincible... Perhaps Joyce will have a further part to play??

At first I was irritated by Buffy stopping to chat with the vamp, but in the end it was well done, although I'd have liked to see her finishing move on him..

And for Willow, I guess Amber Benson was unavailable, as her segment would have been an order of magnitude more powerful with Tara appearing herself.. But it was still effective with the other girl (her name escapes me..)

So yes, a good episode, and excellently titled as well!
