Gatecon Question

When to get in

Okay... to try and get back on target:

It depends on what time of the day you would get in and what you want to do on that first day.

Registration *usually* starts around 0900 or 1000 and runs most of the day and the cocktail party *usually* starts around 1900 [7PM] that night. If you get in during the day and don't mind the rush of check-in, registration, etc [and you're tight on money for a hotel room on Wend. night] you could make it work.

If you can swing the room for Wend. [or can split it with someone], I think coming in the day before might be better, especially since no one can really be sure that flights, etc are always on time.

JMHO, YMMV.

Rowan

Sounds good, thanks Row.

Next Question, is there any where were i can get a like calender of events?(cant remember if i asked this before)

More Questions will surley follow;):rolly2: :rolly2:

Events

The events list is usually not done until much closer to the con.

If things follow the last couple of years, it *might* run like this:

Wens: The City Tour [bus tour of shooting locations]

Thursday: All day registration with cocktail party in the evening

Friday: Panels during the day and afternoon - possible photo/autograph sessions. *If* we do a banquet, Friday evening is the usual day - don't know about this yet.

Sat: Panels during the day and afternoon - possible photo/autograph sessions. The Auction is usually this night.

Sun: *If* the studio lets us have a tour, it's usually Sun AM. Panels during the day and afternoon - possible photo/autograph sessions. Tear down with the 'Volunteer Party' in the evening.

Mon: Repeat of the City Tour if there's enough interest.

Now, as I've said, this is based on the last couple of years. It's too soon to have a more solid idea.

Tim, the main question here on travel is WHERE you are coming from. If you are flying in from overseas then I have two words for you: JET LAG.

Do not underestimate just how much this can throw you (then again, some people don't suffer from it - its very subjective). With international flights, its always good to leave yourself time to spare on either side of the event, especailly if you are somewhere unfamiliar. Of course, this means racking up more room charges, bringing you back to a possible budget problem.

I don't sleep much anyway so I'm crossing my finger that I wont get jet lag. Of course this is my first time overseas so I have no idea if I will. But I've scheduled some shopping and stuff for the afternoon that I get there. Then an early night to get some rest so I can be refreshed for the next day.

And Shelbs, correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't cascade a Kiwi beer ?

Hmm, not sure on that one Allan. But doesn't it have a Tassie Tiger on the side of the bottle? It's been a while since I've had one. I usually stick to wine.

I wonder if they'd let an old, retired vet immigrate. ;)

Of course they would. Except if you come over make sure it's not by boat. If you come by boat you might end up living in the middle of the harsh South Australian desert.

You usually don't have to worry about Jet Lag in the first instance... There's a great thing called adrenaline that automatically takes over as soon as you arrive :D

But afterwards... Expect to just want to sleep for a week straight :rolly2:

I'm so excited now. I'll probably be bouncing off the walls by September.

Do you know when you're leaving yet Allan?

September sometime I think   LOL

Pretty sure I will be arriving on Sat 6th or Sunday 7th.

About the con

Hi Tim and everyone!!! I know it's been a while but I've been busy. Ok, I think Rowan's got it all covered, and I think you've seen my site, so just a reminder that if you want to see what the schedule of the con is just look at my site, it's all in order so you'll see exactly how it goes from that.

I think you should arrive on Wednesday if possible, it gives you time to relax, maybe do some sightseeing before things get overly nuts and you can get a good nights sleep and be prepared for the rest of the con. You can register early on thursday and get that out of the way and do whatever you want until the cocktail party that night. They have a pool and hot tub which is great for relaxing tired muscles, there's also a gym to get in some extra workout time to look your best for the con. :)

There are lots of pre and post con activities too so if you come in early maybe you can join some of those. There's also the restaurants and bars to hang out in, you can meet new friends, have a few drinks, get some great food and maybe even see a few guests too.

If you can't afford a room by yourself post for a roommate or 2, there's always someone looking for a roommate too. I have 3 in my room and there might be 4. That's a great way to make new friends, save space in the hotel and save money.

The airport isn't too far away from the hotel but it is a drive so be prepared for that. Give yourself extra time for traffic and bad weather, being that close to the water, we get alot of fog. There's also the wonderful rain, rain and more rain, so bring a raincoat. But bring clothes for hot weather as well, you never know in this area.

Well, I'll see ya there, it's not much longer now, it creeps up quick and before you know it it's time!!!

not to sound like an idiot, but do u have the link to ur site SS, i dont know where it is, and another question, is the cocktail party formal, or casual?:rolly2:

My site

Hi again, it's http://kimsadventures.com just click on the Gatecon link.

As far as the cocktail party it's not extremely formal but some people do dress up. I stay in the middle usually. Not real casual but not in a gown or anything. The Banquet is more dressy usually. The cocktail party is more fun and more for the fans. No guests showed up last year besides the Air Force and Pentagon advisors but they're always hanging around. I always hope we'll get a few guests but you never know. Free food is good anyway.

Well, hope that helps, I'm off for pizza!! Later, Kim/SS

I thought there was a banquet that was why we were asked which meal we would like when we bought our tickets ??
Is there definitely going to be a cocktail party ??
Thanks,

Parties

Ya know, I'd like to know how that's gonna work too. I figure there has to be some kind of banquet and cocktail party but it's gonna be packed. Before they only let VIP ticket holders in to those, so now with everyone having the same tickets I don't know how they'll do it. But I'm sure they'll figure it out. The con wouldn't be the same without the cocktail party and the banquet. I just hope there's enough room to fit us all and the guests too!! :)

I wouldn't worry WTP, I'm sure it'll be fun no matter what they do. It always is. And if all else fails there's a party in our room!!! :circle:

Party on dudes!!!
