Season 3 *spoiler country*

DS9 S1 was very slow, but the character building payed off later on. I always like the political stories which became more complex, and during the Dominion War arc, I found it became a "must see" programme. Sadly, 'Enterprise' just isn't such a programme at the moment.

The S3 first episode is apparently entitled 'The Xindi', the second episode called 'Anomalous'. I don't have any information on the plots.

I just found some quotes from Scott Bakula, Brannon Braga and Rick Berman:

from SCIFI Wire
"What you see are guys that have spent the entire hiatus trying to position the show and new scripts and new ideas, and they're rethinking everything," star Scott Bakula (Capt. Archer) said in an interview at UPN's fall press preview. "I'm saying to them every day, 'Think out of the box.' ... And they're saying, 'Let's do this.' And everybody is doing that. They spent all of their energy creating this new place. And now they're peopling it. And we're discovering it."

Executive producers Brannon Braga and Rick Berman and the cast revealed several key changes in interviews and during a press conference on July 22:
•The Enterprise crew will be joined by new characters, members of Military Assault Command Operations, or MACO. "They're kind of semi-recurring and will be used on certain away missions," Braga said. Those characters have yet to be cast.
•Archer will get a little darker, a bit more driven in his mission to stop the Xindi. "The idea of being the peaceful 'We-come-in-friendship' [guy], ... that guy is gone," Bakula said.
•T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) will no longer be under the control of the Vulcan High Command and will begin to explore emotions and humanity. She'll also get a new look: new hair, new costumes. "We've got color, and that's always exciting," Blalock said.
•Trip (Connor Trinneer) will grieve for his sister and struggle to balance a need for revenge with his sense of duty to Starfleet. Seeking help from T'Pol, he may find himself more intimately involved with her than ever before.
•The Temporal Cold War and the Suliban storyline will become an integral part of the Xindi arc later in the season, Berman said.

They are certainly making big changes. Some of the ideas sound very like what 'Voyager' was meant to be: character conflicts, ship away from interference from Starfleet, Captain left to his own devices, crewmembers without Starfleet ideals. But it will not be a 'Voyager' repeat, I'm glad about that. I'm not sure about T'Pol. And the "Temporal Cold War will become an integral part of the [story]" -- they have been saying that for 2 years and we still know nothing.

I'm starting to look forward to the next season. I'm hoping for some good changes. Here's hoping.

I'm pleased to say this will probably be the most interesting third season of all the star trek series.

They all seem to get more interesting at some point after the third series. The introduction of Seven, the Dominion war, they all come much later. Enterprise is going straight in at the deep end already which certainly gives it a chance as the best series yet.

I just read a rumour that they may change the title to 'Star Trek: Enterprise'. Since it is only a rumour, I'm putting it here rather than Enterprise General as I don't believe it. It sounds like desperation.

UPN may be preparing a new weapon against "Smallville," as its top-rated drama "Enterprise" goes against the powerhouse The WB show. And it's all in a name.

A source to SyFy Portal said that the mission of the NX-01 is not the only thing being changed this season. The words "Star Trek" are being added back to the title.

"It's not something anyone is going to see abruptly," the source said. "We've been calling it 'Enterprise,' and have been avoiding calling it 'Star Trek,' but it's time (we) go back to the name."

The move could partially be in response to the fact that the venerable Superman franchise is taking its "Smallville" series head-to-head with "Enterprise" on UPN. Both shows are entering their third season, and both have strong fan bases. "Enterprise" barely beat out "Smallville" ratings in the first year, but with the ratings dip by the Star Trek series and the surge by "Smallville," the Superman series took control in the second season.

The battle of the powerhouse franchises has seemingly already begun. A promotional spot for "Enterprise" which ran during a rerun of the series Wednesday night on UPN used the full title of "Star Trek: Enteprise."

It remains unclear how much the words "Star Trek" will be used with the series this season, which begins Sept. 10.

from SciFi Wire

Scott Bakula, star of UPN's Enterprise, told fans in a chat on the official Star Trek Web site that his character, Capt. Jonathan Archer, gets more driven as the third season begins. "I wouldn't say expect a more vengeful captain, but certainly a captain who is more focused, more driven, less willing to compromise," Bakula said. "There's a great sense of purpose that surrounds the whole show right now. It's very energized and very exciting."

Archer is leading the crew of the Enterprise into the Delphic Expanse, a dangerous region of space, in pursuit of the Xindi, a mysterious race of aliens who launched an attack on Earth at the end of last season. Bakula added that it's doubtful Archer will see much romance this season. "[It] doesn't look like Capt. Archer will ever get laid in space," he said, with tongue in cheek. "And I'm OK with that. I just plan on taking it out on the Xindi."

Bakula also said he's not interested in directing any episodes of the Trek prequel series. "I haven't directed any yet," he said. "They've offered me from the beginning the opportunity. But I've found my time has been better spent focusing on scripts and my work and working with each director that comes through. We're very lucky to have a great group of talented directors; they all add to each episode. So far the only cast member who speaks about directing on a daily basis would be Lord Dominic Keating, the tyrant," he added, referring to fellow castmate Keating.

Nothing new there really, I'm happy not to get any big spoilers about this new season. I'd like to watch it spoiler-free first and make up my ming about it myself.
