Favorite Eddings Character?

Silk ... he's well developed and you discover more and more about him as the books progress. I'll never forget the part where he comes rushing in all wild-eyed and yelling about Liselle having the snake in her bodice.

Beldin ... for raising Polgara & Beldaran, for building that rose quartz tower, for having a heart bigger than the world inspite of appearances to the contrary. And then there's the fact that he spent a large chunk of the time when he was watching Torak wondering whether pregnancy affected a sorceress' abilities.

SIlk and Talen, but Silk is definatly top of the list. i also like Liselle, the only one who can tame the bachelor, besides she keeps a snake in her bodice!

Gotta go with, wait have a few...
Salmissra! LOVE HER!!! Before and after Snake, so cold and calculating.
Polgara - far and away my favourite character, though there are a few times i'd like to slap her for her prudishness.
Kalten - for his moments with Sephrenia in the Tamuli...truly some of Eddings most touching writing. And of course being an amazing warrior.
Garion - similar to kalten's moment, but Garion to Adara "i'd rather chop off my arm than hurt her again" about polgara. And of course he is the star of the whole show.
Silk - from start to finish he kept me laughing and amazed. Ambar, Radek, and even Prince Kheldar, his characters are great.

Honourable mentions go to: Anheg, Ulath, Mirtai, Errand (pre-Erriond only), Stragen, Zandramas!, Urvon - crazy piebald, Beldin and Zedar - easily the most under-appreciated of all the characters in the books. I think its Polgara who writes that he gave the world its greatest gift and ended up entombed alive for eternity. (aside from her Greatest Gift to humanity being Belgarion who actually saved the world from annihilation - Erriond did not do that).

Dishonourable mentions must go to: (ie the characters i hate the most): Sparhawk!!!
Kurik - for thinking he had a right to tell Talen what to do!
Talen - for actually doing what Kurik told him to do!
Dolmant - from cool patriarch to the most annoying ego-maniac Arch-Prelate you could imagine. After seeing him in the Domes of Fire, I would have voted for Annias to win the throne. Right up until she faced him down for his imperialistic manner, i hated Ehlana too...but that redeemed her completely in my eyes.
Zakath! loathed this man. How dare he try to tell Belgarion what to do!!!!! Or to keep him prisoner 'for his own protection'
Ce'Nedra - hated her from the first instant Eddings begins to describe her, to the last pages of Polgara the Sorceress. Garion deserved better! I love her realisation in the Polgara epilogue - when she realises that Garion not only outranked her, but transcended her. It was like the slap - punch in the face that she had deserved right from the start.

Polgara, Polgara, Polgara. Incarnation of my personality, anyone?? SHE SHOULDN'T HAVE LOST ONTROSE!!!!

I hated Ontrose! Sorry but he was too perfect! Give me Durnik anyday, strong reliable, and gorgeous, and practical, Durniks the type of guy that could fix a fuse or your radiator. Ontrose couldn't!

I love Silk, in fact I think that I MORE than like Silk.

Barak I think is absolutely wonderful.

Ce'Nedra strong, vibrant kick butt princess, I think she'd give Xena a run for her money.

Zakath - for pure evil.

Beldin - he's caring and sensitive despite his bad habits.

Durnik, I think is absolutely cute. Yay for Durnik and Polgara!

I've never read Polgara but this has convinced me to read it! I can't say I hated Ce'Nedra she finally grew on me in the final two books of the Belgariad. But I did find her extremely annoying at times.

I'm sure I must have answered this at one point or another but I'll answer again. My favourite overall character has got to be Silk, and has been from the first time I read the books. His disguises and cunning plots never fail to make me smile.

I'm sorry smooth, but this is a girl who couldn't even lift a sword if she wanted to let alone face down the ultimate amazonian warrior... Vibrant, yes, emotionally strong - occasionally, but kick butt - i have to disagree...

Khalad was my favourite. Where he asked Annarae what they call the mindsharing. He asked them if they would be insulted if he said they were stupid or something like that. The Preceptor said yes and Khalad then replied "then i wont say it" Thought it was classic.

I like Silk! OBVIOUSLY! he always has something funny to say. I love the idea of being a spy .. and what a great name 'Kheldar' !! And i think the description of Silk is brilliant and SILK aswell! Perfect name for someone with his personality! [hehe] On the other hand i HATE Ce'Nedra!! I'm only halfway through Magicians Gambit so i don't know..? ..she might turn out alright.

:D

don't hold your breath Dark Intentions. She doesn't get much better - gets a bit more action into her scenes but thats about it - the scenes don't include her in the action, shes just there.

Errr how annoying!!

And NOOOOO!O!OO

Methinks maybe Ce'Nedra and Garion 'Get Together'? I glanced at someone elses post and .. 'NOOOOOOOO!' Oh god, Belgarion deserves much more.

I'd have to say, I've got a few favourites. From the Belgariad and Malloreon, I like Silk and Vella - both strong characters, and from The Elenium and Tamuli, I like Talen, Bevier and Kalten. From The Redemption of Althalus, I like Bheid and Gher. I tend to like the characters who vary the most, and the humour that springs from their differences. I haven't made my mind up yet on The Elder Gods series, so I might post later with that.

mine has to be Althalus... absolutly love that book! am not one for on-going sagas, but i really enjoyed Belgareth and Polgra!

Sparhawk all the way. One of the best characters ever. EVER.

I actually don't much care for Eddings. His books were like the same thing over and over. But his characters make it worth it. And some of their conversations are the best.

I can barely remember what the book is about after reading it but I can always remember what was said. Lots of laughs.

My favourite is Velvet. She was very minor, but she was smart and independant, one of the very very few Eddings females who didn't rely on men for her power, along with Mirtai and evil woman from the Mallorean.
My second favourite is Althalus/Silk/whatsname-from-Ellenium/Tamuli. They are precisely the same character, but I still love him.

Velvet was a good character. It was a shame she didn't have more of a storyline. I like Eddings' thief characters, too, especially Stragen and Talen from the Elenium/Tamuli. I'd love to see one of them get their own book - Talen, maybe - if he's supposed to marry Danae/Aphrael. Seeing how that one would turn out would be very interesting.
