We are pulling out all the stops this year to make the 5th anniversary Gatecon a spectacular event.

We are currently putting together a package to try and entice Richard Dean Anderson to join us. You can help by signing our petition now online at the Gatecon site.

Simply follow the link on the home page.

Please tell as many people as you can to sign the petition - they don't even have to be coming to Gatecon to help out.

Thanks,
Richard

Done!

Thank you, Richard!

Just came from the GC site and have started the word around on my lists.

Re Done

Thanks Row that's great - the more names we get the more impressive it'll look.:rolly2:

well i have sent the word out to all my freinds and called in all my debts:p hopefully we will get some more names coming soon, great idea by the way for who ever had it:D:rolly2:

HELL YES!

Thank you Richard!!!

First I read it on a list. Then at the archives. Now here... The excitement never fails. :rolly2:

I'd tell everyone I know, but they already know. And, most have already signed it or are going to.

*off to find more friends to sign* :p :D

Thanks,

Yippee:rolly2:

maybe if he does not come to Gatecon (everything crossed that he at least considers it:p ) Maybe he could do a video message for every one like Erick did..;)

Also does this mean that Chris Judge is thinking of coming ????

Awesome, lots of name accumulating on the list! I hope he joins us for at least one con, we all know he's wanting to spend more time with his daughter and the recent sad loss of his dad is taking it's toll, but it'd be just super great to see him!!! We'll keep praying - all we can do!

Silly question here ...

What is a "package"?

And ... what exactly is the objective of the petition?

Yes, obviously it's to have RDA attend Gatecon, but ... doesn't he already know that he is adored, appreciated and welcomed to Gatecon?

If it had been his will to be there, would he have not already come?

He often mentioned that it's "just entertainment". Whether it's 'cause he's uncomfortable with the whole concept of
idolisation or simply because every minute of the ... carry the
four ... 4320 minutes in a weekend with his daughter is priceless to him, should we not respect that? He's already given so much by just being there for the last seasons. He's such a generous and classy guy!

So ... should he feel pressured by fans/agents/publicists into doing something he doesn't really want to do?

And please don't take this badly! I've been to Gatecon and had the time of my life! Met great people with whom I've developed rich friendships! Was fully entertained by the Stargate cast/staff guests who were there! It was worth everything I invested to be there! For that I am truely grateful!!! :)

Just had this "If you love it let it free ... " thought ... :)

'Package, in this case, will probably be a print out copy of the invitation/petition list and a cover letter explaining what it's all about.

If a list with names on it and a letter makes him feel 'pressured' than we fans have a lot more power than anyone would ever guess. ;)

Seriously, we all understand that RDA makes his own rules as does any adult actor. And you have to remember that unless this is hand carried to him, the package will go through the hands of his PA [production assistant] and the front office first, so it's not like this is gonna get dropped on in him the middle of a shoot and he has to stop everything and sign for it on the spot.

C4 ['Core 4' - my old nickname for the four folks who started Gatecon becasue I got lazy and didn't want to write out everyone's name in my email program] have had a long relationship with the studio and it's folks. I don't think they'd do or promote anything that would disrupt that in any way.

Well I had the same thought that greywolf had so i'm not signing it.. Sorry everyone..

That's okay...

Not a problem, sonyab. Everyone has the right to their own perspective on this matter.

And, BTW, welcome aboard - I see this is you first post here on ASci-Fi. :D

Oh hehe thanks Rowan. that's sweet of you.. Yeah love stargate, love macgyver, and LOVE RICK :) nice to meet you :)

I'm not sure on my facts, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I read it first here. Isn't the reason he avoids conventions due to some bad experience he had in the past with a stalker or some over zealous fan? Not because of his lack of time.

So, for all that a petition sounds like a good idea, unless you address the problem i.e. that he feels unsafe at conferences, then he will never agree.

That's what I had heard, many moons ago, Dave, but I've never been able to track it down to a verifiable source so it may be 'historic rumor'.

We'll just have to wait and see on that.

As for safety issues: Gatecon not only has it's own organic Security group, but a professional company so there's a wonderful 'double team' effect. No one is left adrift unless they specifically request to be left to their own devices.

We take that sort of thing very seriously.

Inviting

Actually, I just read Richard's post about the guest list.:

"The RDA petition (or invitation may be a better word) is doing well ..."

It sounds a lot better reworded as an invitation! LOL! :D

Unfortunately the word "petition" has grown to acquire a negative sense to it.

"Invitation" sounds so much more ... "inviting". ;)

Yes, petition is totally the wrong word, and we didn't realise that till after we started it.

I agree about the feeling of petitions being negative, and ours is nothing more than an invitation. (and we have since reworded the site).

I think it would be great to have him at Gatecon, but it's not a pressure thing, and if he decides that being with his family is more important I totally understand (being a father of 3, including our newest edition, our 2 month old baby girl).

glad u did that allan:) over 1000 now and still going, if u havent signed what are u doing here reading this;):rolly2:

RDA PETITION

I don't think that petition will help. RDA doesn't like to do appearances. From what I have heard he wants to quit Stargate so he can be with his daughter. I think he feels like he got enough limelight for being McGuyver and is tired of being a star. I'd love to see him come to GateCon but I think you might have to offer a LOT of $$$$$$$$$$ for him to show up. I don't know all the details but I don't doubt the things that I have heard.

RDA

Your may be right, but 6 years ago, Michael Shanks didn't do cons either and now he does. It never hurts for a fan to dream, does it? ;)

Rowan

well we are at 1447 sigs now, and i hear that there are other things being offered to him to get him to come, what i dont know though(shrug) and like row said its good to dream;):rolly2:
