SCI FI OPENS THE 'GATES' TO MORE ADVENTURES

Channel Renews both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis

SG-1 Ties for Longest-Running Sci-Fi Drama

In response to overwhelming viewer demand, SCI FI Channel has ordered new seasons of its highest-rated and most successful original series, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1, from MGM Television Entertainment. Production on both 20-episode seasons is set to begin in March 2005 for summer premieres on SCI FI.

Stargate Atlantis exploded onto the scene in July 2004, delivering over 4.2 million viewers and shattering every previous ratings record for a SCI FI series. Reprising their roles for season two will be Joe Flanigan, Torri Higginson, David Hewlett, Rainbow Sun Francks, Rachel Luttrell and Paul McGillion.

As Stargate SG-1 returns for an astounding ninth original season, it ties The X-Files as the longest-running sci-fi drama series on American television. MGM is currently in negotiations with the original cast for their return.

Robert C. Cooper and SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright will continue to serve as executive producers on both series, which are distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution.

New episodes of SG-1 and Atlantis return in January 2005 along with the series premiere of Battlestar Galactica, making SCI FI Friday the most powerful night of sci-fi on television.

Well The X-files kinda lost the plot in it's ninth season. But i think Sg1 are going to do much better. *fingers crossed* Plus i can't get myself to think that more stargate would be a bad thing ;)

I thought exactly the same thing about the comparison with the X-Files. Let's hope!

I wish the SciFi channel in Europe had a line-up like that, but we are getting it all on Sky One anyhow. We already have Battlestar Galactica before you do, so we aren't missing out too much!

Why should they suddenly get better again in a 9th season when season 8 and even 7/6... were starting to head down hill? Producers are NOT in it for the sci-fi, the storyline or the fans, they are purely in it for the money.

Actually i meant better than the X-files series 9 (wouldn't take much) rather than some of the earlier series of stargate.

Still i thought series 7 was okay and i'm liking most of what i've seen of series 8, so will remain hopeful ;)

They could carry on doing Stargate forever, as far as I'm concerned but it has to stay good, if it goes downhill like some shows do then it will be a shame, as long as the writers are good then Hooray...More Stargate.:D

I agree with that, I can't think of more Stargate as a bad thing. :D

I cheered until I read this - what if they don't come back?

im pretty sure they will come back although i am wondering what they will do with amanda tapping what with her having her kid

Looks like there will be cast changes. I'm ok with that since I've been a fan of Dr. Who going back to Patrick Troughton. Who fans are used to the main characters changing.

Frankly, it would be odd in a military installation to have everyone in the same function/rank for such long terms. Promotions for Sam, Jack, and Hammond were to be expected, as should be their leaving the mountain for other assignments.

The new cast members look solid to me, and if the shippers get their wish, then Sam and Jack will be off spooning somewhere. Can't have it both ways -- lovebirds and on the same team.

I think the new seasons of both shows are going to be crappy because of the cast change. I think its bad that that guy from farscape is joinging the cast of sg-1.

I am looking more forward to Battlestar Gallactica:)

It's pretty obvious the show's writers/producers are trying exactly, unfortunately, to fill RDA's spot with a reproduction of RDA in his younger days. It only serves to bring out the differences between the two, and not necessarily in a good way. For those of us who are accustomed to BBrowder being our favorite astronut, it is as if you are looking for a long lost friend and just missing him/her every time.

Make no mistake, I am glad BB received the role as the new leader of SG-1. Hopefully, in time, the writers will allow the new character to have his own personality.

And by the way - the trailer for the second eppy of this season shows that BB can scream, "Teal'c" exactlyas RDA does.

As to ATapping,
she decided not to marry the cop, which leaves her character open to kill off Ben Browder's character should they decide to date. The black widow must keep up her reputation, you know. :D
I think it will take until the fourth or fifth eppy to make the previous characters more an equal part of the team again - BB's character has to be more cemented as the new leadership for SG-1.

It's only been one episode but I am sure the writers will let Ben Browder develop over time. After all they did do that to all the others.

I was very disappointed in how they did the premiere with General Landry being there and NO explanation as to what happened to Jack. I miss Richard very much but I commend him on wanting to be with his daughter. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will makes some guest apperances.

I agree completely, particularly as the manner in which the actor is playing the character is annoying. In the dialogue he thinks he is being funny or chummy; it is not coming across that way. Suggestion: watch eppy two and three of SG-1, season one. General Hammond wasn't particularly likeable either when he refused to stand up for Teal'c who had saved SG-1, and let military politics be politics. Don Davis' character grew on us because he accepted Teal'c and began treating him as a member of the team. We didn't necessarily like Hammond first; we liked Teal'c's character first.

I really hated the way they left BBrowder's character hanging out to dry, not telling him SG-1 had disbanded. That s***ed. As for RDA, now he doesn't have to cover up his gray hair. ;) And either he will be thrilled to be away from the grind of filming the show, or he will miss it like hell and perhaps we will get another movie. :rolly2:

No one has let Peter DeLuise entirely off the SG-1 set, have they? :D

I won't get to see the new eps for quite a while, so I was wondering how they started off the new ep? Did they just say where everyone was and what they were doing?

Ben Browder shows up, reporting to a new commander/RDA is not there. BB thinks he is signing on to another SG-1 team. The general tells him he is to leadSG-1 1, but lo and behold, the former SG-1 has disbanded. It appears RDA has retired (I don't remember that part), Carter asked to be reassigned to research at Area 51, Teal'c is now the liason to the Tauri as a member of the Jaffa counsel on another planet, and Daniel Jackson asked to be reassigned to Atlantis. BB begins the eppy by trying to get the former SG-1 members to become a team again, while flashbacks of his heroics during the fight against Anubis are shown.

That totally sucks! I can't believe iT! How can they skip all that important stuff without showing us what happened! I've been watching the show since the beginning, and I guess I technically just one a bet. . . kinda

I said that we would never see Jack O'Neill resign before the VERY last episode, and technically I'm right, since we don't get to see it!

interestingly enough . . .

Atlantis, which really s***ed initially, is actually getting better. I really did not expect it to. It is another show in which they have picked a young "O'Neill" character.

SPOILER

SpOiLeR

for the end of season 8

I agree it does suck the way they didn't even mention Jack retiring. Although Kerry told him he should if the Air Force was all that was keeping him and Carter apart. But he never said if he was going to and of course he took Sam fishing in Minnesota. That was very cool. Since she had turned him down more than once in the past

When they did show him he was talking to Mitchell who was probably unconsious LOL

Yeah, it seems as if they skipped a season, or at least a few significant eps, and then started up again with a new cast!
