from SciFi Wire

SCI FI Channel announced that it has ordered a 10th season of Stargate SG-1 and a third season of its spinoff series, Stargate Atlantis. Production on both 20-episode seasons is slated to begin in early 2006 for summer premieres on SCI FI.

Heading into a 10th season, Stargate SG-1 becomes the longest-running SF drama in American television history, outlasting The X-Files, The Twilight Zone and every iteration of Star Trek. The first half of SG-1's ninth season has averaged 2.4 million viewers per week.

Stargate Atlantis has averaged more than 2.3 million viewers a week for the first half of its sophomore season.

SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper will return as executive producers on both series.
We can argue whether it was better in the first few seasons, or whether it has just evolved, or whether the producers no longer care about the franchise, but you can't argue with those statistics; that it will run for 10 or more Seasons and still pulls in those viewers.

Meh. Whether its good or bad, Stargate has definitely established itself. Whether or not sg1 continues past season 10 and atlantis takes over, Stargate as a franchise is... well... established. Hats off...

Cheers!

I hear that Claudia Black is joining SG-1. I know. Sounds about as plausible as Quinn being in SG-1.

I also hear that everyone else had signed up for series 10. :coolyello

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut

It's true about Claudia Black, personally I would rather see Quinn come back!

I wasn't a huge fan of Quinn, but I wasn't a "Quinn-hater" either. I too would rather see him come back. :(
