Matt Damon as the young James T. Kirk?

Yeah, or how about a post-federation future after a economic or social collapse after a golden age. And ships have to navigate through hyperspace minefields so many are afraid to travel and many different earth colonies are cut off from each other, and the solar system is in civil war. And the Vulcans have just disappeard for some unknown reason. Maybe humanity crossed some line and ticked off a Q like race and all these things were done to send humans back to a darker age but a group of scavengers fly around in a Federation/Romulan Hybrid and some human colonies would die out if it weren't for hand outs from the prosperous klingon empire. This is just off the top of my head but I think "bold" ideas can revive star trek so many new "bold" writer's can "boldly" take things in a "bold" new direction.
Brilliant Idea! You write it and I'll watch it!

Sadly, I think they haven't a clue what to do. Harve Bennett had the Academy idea 25 years ago. It was a novel one back then; there had been no 'Young Indiana Jones' or 'Smallville', now it looks as corny and old hat as it really is.

I don't have a problem with new Kirk's but I don't think Matt Damon's got the personnality for it. His acting leaves me cold. Maybe I haven't seen the right things but I think whoever plays Kirk should have more than a handsome face.

What about my face? Is this good enough to play Kirk?

Maybe if it was more streamlined and less green...
