Charlaine Harris, that is.

I must admit that I resisted reading these for a long time. I've seen them in bookstores heavily promoted, but I just thought, oh no, another derivitive, cutesy, vampire series. Maybe I'll get around to reading them; maybe not.

Well, I was wrong! In desperation one day I bought one and brought it home. I was back at the bookstore the next day, and several times that week to buy all the rest! I gobbled them up like candy and gorged myself on the entire series in one week.

They are pretty cutesy, but very well written and funny. The heroine is engaging, the plots seem well constructed (not that I'm really a critic). So give them a try!

I love that series! It's like Anita Blake, only even more over the top. It absolutely cracked me up who the one character is - hehe - I don't want to say it and ruin it for others, but if you've read 'em, you know who I mean. Mkaes me smile just thinking about the books - too bad i sold 'em or I might be tempted to read them again.

? I don't think they're more "over the top" than Hamiltons books at all; quite the opposite, since the Anita Blake books are much, much darker.

I also don't know who the "one" character is . . .

Oh WAIT! Yes I do! LOL! You mean "Bubba," right? :)

I really enjoy Harris's books. She has a light touch with humor, leavening the grimmer events without making me feel that she's telling jokes.

I love these books. They were given to me as a gift for my birthday and I like them much better than the Anita Blake books; which changed too much for my liking after the fourth book.

Harris manages to blend the darke events in with a lot of light-hearted insights and dialogue. I read them all in a few days minus sleep and with pots of coffee.

I've enjoyed this series too. Looking forward to reading the latest. :)

I've now re-read the series about 3 times, including the latest book. I'm so very curious about what will happen to Sookie next!

That's a lot of endorsement. I'm gonna have to pick one up for my vacation. How many in the series?

Seven so far.

1. Dead Until Dark
2. Living Dead in Dallas
3. Club Dead
4. Dead to the World
5. Dead as a Doornail
6. Definitely Dead
7. All Together Dead

I hear that one of the cable networks is working on a series. HBO I think.

Of course, these books could also be classified as alternate history, much like the Anita Blake series, and the series written by kim Harrison.

It's called True Blood and supposed to start sometime this year on HBO. Anna Paquin is going to play Sookie. Kind of odd casting there.

I agree, Anna seems like a strange choice to play Sookie. I don't have HBO, but am hoping to rent the series when it goes to Blockbuster. I hope they can do the series justice, I enjoy reading them.

The same thing happen to me for a long time, I always see the books in my books club magazine but never give them a try. That was before I begin to see the series True Blood. Since I always prefer to read the original source before the tv-movie version, I decide to read the books before the second season begins since many things are different. And I have to say that I really should pick this books a long time ago, I love it. The story, the characters and the ambience is awesome. Now I'm a 100% fan. ;) And definitely looking forward to the new book Dead and Gone.

Apologise for re resurrecting a dead thread but I've just finished reading up to book 8 (a 3 day spree) and I'm completely hooked! Well I had seen and loved the tv series which is why I'd got the books (It's back in June btw)

Did book 8 end abruptly or was that just my copy? The last line I have is "Bye Hunter, I said right back"

I've also just finished the most recent book (I bought all of them). I've also read the three books in Harris's Harper Connolly series.

I find the Southern Vampire series simultaneously irritating and hugely entertaining. I am hooked and there is no doubt I'll buy the next book in the series.

Re: True Blood

I also think Anna Paquin is an odd choice. I have no problem with her as an actress; I just think she's been miscast. Also, I don't detect much on-screen chemistry between her and Stephen Moyer (even though they're engaged in real-life).

Apologies if I derailed the thread with my detour to True Blood.

I just discovered this series recently, I got sick on holidays and my sister had the first book, and in the past two weeks I have purchased the first seven ( I am reading definitely dead atm) Next week I will get the last 2 and will be all up to date. After forcing myself to read the book twilight (just so I could justifiably say it was crap) I am loving Sookie Stackhouse.
