I thought this was supposed to be a list of our favourite non SFF authors.

I wonder if that includes horror...

Oh it is Non-SFF authors but the title says only fav authors. I forgot about the original first post about this topic...

Well its easier for me whose fav authors are mostly SF,Fantasy,Horror.

Dashiell Hammett ( hardboiled PI)
Donald E. Westlake( comic crime, noir)
Edith Södergran (Swedish-Finnish poet)
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (crime)
Ken Bruen (crime noir)
Jim Thompson (crime noir
C.S Forester (historical fiction)

You can see which genre i like most outside SFF,Horror ;)
No my list isnt in ranking order. Chesteron, Achebe wouldnt be in the bottom otherwise.

Waaaay more than four. But the ones I keep coming back to are,

William Faulkner
Mark Twain
Dashiell Hammett
Ernest Hemingway

Not necessarily in that order. Bugs me that I can't shoe-horn in Nathaniel Hawthorne, Raymond Chandler, Jorge Luis Borges, and Angela Carter in.

(*cough*)

I usually say I don't really have favorite authors; I just have favorite books. But that isn't completely true. There are some that I really do hold in high esteem. Unfortunately, other than Edgar Poe, they're all SFF. There's a few things I read in school that I enjoyed, though. I guess I'll give this a shot:

Edgar Allen Poe (of course)
Toni Morrison
Marjani Satrapi (do autobiographical graphic novels count?)
Apostolos Doxiadis (another graphic novel  )

I confess: I've only read one book by each of the last three, but all three were very good! ;)

Hmmm...favourite authors?

J.R.R Tolkien
J.K. Rowling
Stephen King
R.L. Stine
Stephanie Meyer
Dan Brown

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I know there are more...
