Imperial Traitor Artwork

That certainly is Tres Bien.
Man, my French is terrible…
How much control do you get over the cover of your books, Mark? Do you get to pick the artist, or chat to him about what you want? And do you get a copy of the original sent to you as a framed freebee? I think the Imperial Assassin cover would look great on a wall.

Coolhand, I consider myself very lucky as I got my artist of choice - this is certainly not always the case. I do chat to my artist and I provide him with word pictures for what I would like on the cover, but this second part is done through the art director at Simon & Schuster. The Darkweaver Covers were exactly what I wanted, because I was the publisher and I did all my dealings directly with the artist. I don't get the same amount of control over the books produced by S & S, or I'd be putting the Art Director out of a job - and I wouldn't want to do that. She's a very nice lady. :)

As for getting freebies - most definitely not! I've just negotiated to buy the original artwork for the Darkweaver Covers, the cheque for which will be in four figures. As I already paid a large four figure sum to commission the work in the first place, the pictures will have finished up costing me a very large sum of money indeed. Fantasy art is not cheap ... particularly when it's been produced by an author of Geoff Taylor's standard.

Sadly, I'm unlikely to ever get the Imperial Assassin one on the wall - well not in the cover format anyway. It is actually two separate pieces of art superimposed. The assassin was painted separately, I'm told.

Wow. So even though you commission the art you don't actually get to own the finished product? The more I learn, the harsher life seems.

cool i was just reading Magician (by that Feisty author), and noticed the cover art was done by Geoff Taylor :D
that guy gets everywhere!

Indeed, a very striking cover... and it complements the set very well! Quite moody, and with the panther in the title characters, it adds a nice contrast -- gives a visual tension that I think is very intriguing.

Wow, the artwork looks great! It's very intriguing and colours really compliment each other. Geoff Taylor is a genius. It would definitely be a book I'd pick up even if I hadn't read the others.

I LOVE it. Simple, dark, intriguing, and classical. It would definetly help me buy the book.

Thanks, everyone. I'm just drafting the last chapter now and a lot of it revolves around this chamber, so having such a great visual helps no end with the descriptions. I can only take my hat off to Geoff. I'm so glad that I've had the opportunity to have his artwork on my books - I'm sure that a lot of the casual sales I pick up will be down to his excellent artwork.

It's nice to see the cover image with titles in place, Mark. The final effect is very striking indeed. That's a pretty stunning trio of covers S&S have created for the triligy... Thankfully, we can be confident that the text lives (or will live) up to the images. This is one set of books that can be judged by their covers! Excellent job.

That is a really cool cover. Without the writing I didn't think it looked as good as the others, but the writing makes it look brilliant.
I'm glad its the same sort of design as the others, there's nothing worse than when a series of books changes cover design or something like that.

This is the most striking cover of the three books, in my opinion. The colours are amazing. If it doesn't cause sales, I will be shocked.
