Dragon riders

It of course depends on the size of your screen. Over the new year holiday I watched LotR over three days on my boyfriend's 96 inch wall projector. The smallest movie theater in town has a screen with a diagonal only about twice that long (it seats about 30 people), i. e. only four times the area. I do realize that not everyone has the opportunity to watch it under such conditions.

I meant dvds could be useful for a series. Of course, I'd love to see the books made into films for the big screen.:)

Yes, but didn't you miss all the special things about the cinema? the lack of legroom, the idiots that pass loud comments throughout the film, or (worse ) answer their mobiles, the strategic bit of gum on your seat.....?
Mmm. Let me go and think about this.....

:D

The best bit was that I could sit there with a beer in my hand, and hit pause for all the bathroom breaks I or my bf needed. ;)

But seriously, direct2DVD isn't just for movies that aren't thought popular enough to warrant theater release. For some it could be a deliberate choice.

whilst i see Eragon for the plagiaristic kiddie book that it is... i couldn't help but like it... The movie isn't all that bad. In fact it is what prompted me to buy the book. The book was better.
Now a DRoP film would have to be made better than Eragon - for the simple reason that is features adult characters and therefore doesn't need to be simplified nearly as much.
I would rather see Dragonflight first... prequels can be good later. However, correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't dragonflight the highest selling of the DRoP books? there is enough action that involves and that which does not involve, the dragons. It shows all the complexity of Weyr life, both riders and dragons and Weyr/Hold interaction/conflict as is needed in the film that sets up a franchise.

I think move is terrible.... (When i saw hair on a dragon it was all over for me…) I didn’t read Pern stories but I will…

i have to agree that the furry dragon was wierd, and at the beginning it looks like Roron is wearing jeans... but i couldn't help but like it. Would have been better is Jeremy Irons was NOT in it... and John Malkovich too... talk about hammy actors... Jeremy Irons was the main reason why i loathed the Dungeons and Dragons movie (it was weak anyway, but he overplayed his part as though he was a cartoon character, or performing on-stage where over-acting is expected).

I just have to add here, I hope that the dragons of this movie are based off Michael Whelan's covers. This is a great example:

Michael Whelan Gallery Detail

His vision of the dragons of Pern were the most natural and beautiful I can hope to see.

Please, movie producers, don't add big shiny scales, fins, hair, ears, big-beefy-arms, troll-fangs or silly human-like faces to these dragons. I think my head would implode.

Hopefully they'd get him to do the design for the film. I'd love to see what I consider the dragons of Pern to look like on screen (more or less the same as the book covers), as opposed to the current trend set by the Eragon film.

Since I read these last few posts, I've been wracking my brains trying to think of another dragon artist who could successfully design the dragons of Pern.

No luck yet, though.

Trouble is that Michael Whelan is no longer drawing much. He has a medical condition which makes it difficult for him to use his hands. Must be devastating for such a creative person. :(

How terrible. I had no idea. You're right, though. It must be very, very difficult for him not to be able to draw. I feel for him.

That's terrible news about Whelan.

Well, from what I know, there are concept artists for movies, then there are the people who actually take the artwork and put it into production. Hopefully all it takes is a license from Whelan to use his art.

I would love to see this happen, does it show? :p

Lol, Dolphinsbell!:)

The dragons are one of the most important things about the books/possible film, so hopefully they'd be able to get the best designer/artist for the job. I'm pretty biased towards Whelan's artwork myself, though!:)

i'm pretty particular about how i want my dragon-image to look, so i'm kinda iffy about some people's artwork. i'm totally against the dragon/horns thing.

yeah, i totally agree...no cutesy, little baby-talk thing going on-that'll definatly put me off!

also another problem for me would be the eyes...you know how they're supposed to have all the different color facets? i don't want to get my hopes up, but please-don't ruin the eyes for me!!! i have an odd interest in eyes...
*sighs gustilly and thinks of F'lar's beautiful amber eyes* *chuckles*

I forgot about the facets of the eyes. I'd like to think that if they're going to the trouble of making a film, that they'd get the details right down to the last. Perhaps they could portray the eyes like the facets on gemstones? (Although I'm not too sure whether that would look right)
