The Magic Kingdom Of Landover

I'm currently reading Witches's Brew and I must admit I had no high expectations after all Shannara series. I was wrong as I actually enjoy this series. The characters are very well built and the story is easy reading, refreshing and entertaining. My favorite character is Edgewood Dirk, the prism cat, very smart, powerfull and funny. I love also Abernathy and Strabo, the dragon.

Once I'll read A Princess of Landover and Sometimes the Magic Works: Lessons from the Writing Life, I could say I read all Terry Brooks's novels. That makes me a fan, I suppose.

Just about 2/3rds of the way through the first book and enjoying it so far.

It would be nice to have a fantasy kingdom and cross over from time to time.

It's ok - it's pretty shallow compared to the Shannara stuff. Almost like a childrens book. Landover isn't very big is it? Seems you can walk across it in 3 or 4 days. I wonder what is on the rest of the planet. Assuming it's a planet as it has Moons.

It's just diferent and refreshing. Lawyers should be able to deal with stress, but no human can easily face life in a world like Landover.

No. I don't think it's big. Maybe the same size as Virginia.

Well - I tried - I really did. But I gave up. There seems to be one plotline to both books. He goes to someone/something for help - fails miserable - tries someone else... I just got bored. I;d pitch this as children's book - there's just not enough depth. I may go back to it at some point - but now the final Robin Hobb "Fitz & The Fool" book is here and I'm totally engrossed!

By comparison with Shannara and the Word and the Void series, the Magic Kingdom is more for children. Lucky me, I should receive The Black Elfstone in about two weeks.

I have already finished Robin Hobb "Fitz & The Fool. It took me two days to finish the last volume.

When I read them Word and Void series and Landover felt more like they were about me than the Shinara books which were recommended to me.

Knowing I liked three of the world's Terry had created let me say with confidence that I'm a fan of his writing.

Sadly they were not numbered among the books I got in the divorce, and I haven't got around to getting my own copies yet.

The Word and the Void books are my faves - but I enjoyed all the Shannara books.

I loved the Landover novels. Ive always thought it might be cool for him to revisit the series but with a different protagonist and a different magic kingdom, now that the Shanarra chronology is coming to a conclusion.
