If there was a Farseer Film...?

I wouldn't mind this becoming a mini series, as long as they portray Fitz and Nighteyes exactly as they are in the book. As for who I think would be good hmmmm............ let's see

Fitz - I could see Joaquim Phoenix as the older Fitz (Tom Badgerlock - The scar on his lip would fit in to Fitz's past torture, while still maintaining his looks somewhat) based on his character in The Village. He could pull off the range or emotion or lack there of.

Young Fitz - A Newcomer would be good.

Fool - I also agree that Tilda Swinton could play this. Anyone who has seen Constintine will know what I'm talking about (she played the male Angel Gabriel and seemed both male and female)

Molly - Anne Hathaway (I just like her)

Burrich - This one is hard?? I don't know!!!!! I can see John Travolta or Kevin Spacey here.

Chade - Tommy Flanagan

Verity or Regal - Viggo Mortensen - He has the bearing to be any one of these characters.

That is all I can think of for now.

I have a few ideas

Sam Neil - Chade
John Malcovich - Galen
Jude Law - Regal
Rufus Sewl - Verity
Cate Blanchett - Kettricken
Tommy Flanagan - Old Fitz ( Guy with scar from Braveheart ) great actor
An unknown would probably be better for Fitz though I think.

As for the Fool I dont even know where to begin. Not an easy series to tell on the big screen.

I am excited about the new series based on Wizards first rule though!

A movie would be hard to do but maby animation would be a way to go juat a thought

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and this conversation is the main reason I registered. I just finished the Farseer and Tawny Man Trilogies and it's perfect read everyone's thought here.

I gave some special thought to the casting and first of all I need to agree that noone could ever play the Fool perfectly, because he is just too special for that! But my original thought for him before I ever considered his as a woman was Paul Bettany, who I think would do quite well. I see that Tilda Swinton is the most popular choie for the part, but I straightaway imagined her as the Pale Woman. Jodie Foster would also have made a lovely (if not a bit too short) Fool choice when she was younger.

I'd definately say Joaquim Phoenix for Regal (some people are simply born for bad roles :p) and Ben Whishaw (guy from Perfume) for Will.

For Chade Sean Connery. He has the perfect age and still the sprighty energy of a younger person. Not old, but mature, haha! :p

I like Patrick Stewart for King Shrewd.

How about Mel Gibson for Burrich??? Though I also like Henry Rollins for this part.

The guy doing Prince Caspian in Narnia might make a good Dutiful, but I haven't seen the film and so I don't know about his acting talent.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt for yound Fitz perhaps.

Someone like Dennis Queid for Verity.

Gwyneth Paltrow or someone similar for Kettricken.

Miranda Richardson as Elizabeth and her Nursey in Blackabber would make a perfect Patience and Lacey!!! :D

The old Fitz I find very tricky. Maaaaaaybe... Hugh Jackman? Dunno. Although ihs Wolverine attitude would suit Fitz I think.

For Kettle Judy Dench all the way!

What do you think of Jack Black for Thick??? I say he would enjoy the challenge!

Oh, and John Noble ( Lord Denethor) for Galen. I can just see him hitting Fitz to death!

That's what I have come up ith so far. Hope you like some of them. :)

OK, let's take this even more international:

King Shrewd - Anthony Hopkins

Burrich - Russell Crowe or Temuera Morrison

Chade - Alan Rickman

Fool - Johnny Depp

Fitz - Dominic Cooper (History Boys)

Regal - Guy Pierce

Verity - Viggo Mortensen

Kettricken - Can't remember her name, she voiced the Queen in Beowulf

Lacey - Claudia Christian

Patience - Emily Watson (Hilary and Jackie)

Need to have a think about Galen - maybe Dwight Schulz??

I really like Anthony Hopkins as Shrewd, but Johnny Depp as the Fool? I think he needs a much more delicate touch.

I'd say Russell Crowe as Burrich would be good though.

I pretty much agree with your statement. I always imagined Burrich as Russell Crowe, and Anthony Hopkins is a good addition for any film. I also agree that Johnny Depp wouldn't be right for the fool, but he's good enough that he should have some role in the film (not that there is a film).

Some good suggestions here, but Johnny Depp as the Fool? Sigh. Everytime people think of a slightly wacky character, they immediately go to "Johnny Depp!" It's become such a cliche.

Someone once suggested Paul Bettany, who I think would do a great job. As for Kettricken, I think Katee Sackhoff could pull it off IF she played it right. I'm currently re-reading Royal Assassin and the description of Kettricken immediately put me in mind of Sackhoff (in particular, in BSG during the New Caprica episodes).

I like most of the other suggestions, particularly Alan Rickman, but I think he isn't old enough - Chade is Shrewd's older brother, remember? Alan Rickman is certainly not older than Anthony Hopkins. I love your suggestions for Verity and Regal though, they're great. Fitz on the other hand, I find impossible to cast. I just can't think of anyone for him because despite his descriptions, I've always seen him as a redhead with curly, afro-style hair - see here: :// John Howe :: Illustrator [ Portfolio ] :: Home / Cover Art / Robin HOBB / The Farseer Trilogy Book 2: Royal Assassin - Fitz

When I think of someone playing the fool, Paul Bettany fits.

I suggested paul bettany and my post was deleted? -.- he would be the perfect guy for the fool

Your post wasn't deleted, it automatically went into moderation, because you can't post links yet* with only 2 posts -- or anything the software thinks is a link (to prevent people from trying to get around the rule by putting in spaces or other sorts of funny business).

Since yours seems harmless, I've approved it.

hmm.

Shrewd - Harrisson Ford?
Regal - Robert Downey Jr/Christian Bale?
Fool - David Tennant?
Verity - Gerad Butler/George Clooney?

and Heath Ledger woulda made a great Fitz in his younger days, shame \=

anyways that's all i can think of atm. gimmeh some feedback. ^^

I think you all have wonderful ideas, but I imagine that the Fool/Beloved is much younger appearing than those actors. Lord Golden is supposed to look like he is in his early twenties, and the Fool is supposed to look like he is in his boyhood. All of these actors seem too old.

Hi guys haow abouty this for a cast list...

King Shrewd: Peter O’toole

How about Matt Damon for Fitz, I can see him being conflicted yet still keeping his temper.

I think Tom hardy would also play an amazing Fitz, he's the stand out actor of his gerneration

I worry that somebody like matt damon or brad pitt(as has been suggested for other roles would be to big for the part and detract from the character - the Tom cruise factor!!!

I'm agreeing with Alan Rickman as Chade, Tilda Swinton as the Fool, and Ben Barnes as Regal...Ben Barnes would make a lovely, lovely Regal.

Ben Barnes would make a lovely, lovely anybody! I always saw Regal as being older than BB, and with a bit of a paunch. Not sure why. But really, if Ben Barnes was to play him, I wouldn't complain. :D
