An exercise in communal behavior...

Name: Lucy

Top Ten Favorite Fiction Novels (not in order):
Dune, Good Omens, Hitchicker's Guide To The Galaxy, Watchmen, V For Vendetta

Top Five Favorite Series (again, not in order):
You know, other than the HHGTTG series, I've not really read many series.

When did you start writing:
I've been writing since as far back as I can remember, but trying to be serious and actually having the focus to do so, I would have to say about 14 months.

What started your love for the craft of writing:
I think it was being raised on Heinlein, CS Lewis and comic books, as well as a litany of other SF and fantasy works from such a young age. I was always creating make believe worlds and bizarre characters and began writing them down from the earliest age I was able to.

Do you have anything published:
To date, no. I have every intention of getting my current work published, however no matter what hurdles I have to jump through to get there.

The Best advice you can give an up-and-coming author:
Just keep writing, no matter what other people say. There is probably an audience for your work out there somewhere.

Where do you read and write, and for how long:
I tend to read in two places, in bed and on the loo, they are the only two places I know I can read without being distracted by the accursed television. When I write, I tend to be sat in front of my computer in the lounge. Somehow, the television doesn't seem to distract me when I'm writing. I intend to get a laptop at some point so I can just wander off and write where my muse seems to like the best.

What is your favorite writing beverage:
Tea, failing that, coffee. I love alcohol, however I do not find it conducive to writing and very rarely write whilst under the influence. Besides I dread to think how poorly my spelling would suffer if I did.

In one word describe how writing makes you feel:
Released.

Hah, well seems like a good place to introduce myself.

Top Ten Favorite Fiction Novels (not in order): The Hobbit, A Storm of Swords, To the Hilt (a mystery I read, awhile back, the author escapes me but I really liked it), The City of Towers, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Shadow Rising (or any of the WoT series really), Battleaxe (aka the Wayfarrer Redemption), I Claudius, The Godfather (I read the book before I saw the movie which was great), The Outsiders (simple but still one of my favourites)
Top Five Favorite Series (again, not in order): Wheel of Time, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Dreaming Dark, Lord of the Rings, The Wayfarer Redemption
*honourable mention - i never read the book and the movie was poor, but the CGI animated starship troopers series was great in terms of story. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
When did you start writing: I guess I started writing little stories in elementary school, then, like most, pursued it more seriously in high school. Being at university I get to write a great deal, though unfortunately not always on what I wish.
What started your love for the craft of writing: Reading. I think the two go hand and hand, and as I grew to love reading more and more, so to did my desire to write.
Do you have anything published: Not really. I am what you call lazy when it comes to submitting my work for critique, a malady I hope to correct here.
The Best advice you can give an up-and-coming author: Being one myself, its hard to say. I guess this: read, and write. Do it everyday. The more you read and write the more you will understand how to construct your own work.
Where do you read and write, and for how long: Reading i like to do in bed. Its hard on the neck but I like to be comfortable in order to immerse myself in the book. To write, I need some structure: a comfortable yet supportive chair, with my laptop in front of me.
What is your favorite writing beverage: Water, fruit punch, ice tea, and beer if i take it outside.
In one word describe how writing makes you feel: Immersed

Name: Jenna (my writing is far more creative than my screeen name, promise!)
Top Ten Favorite Fiction Novels (not in order):Legend, The First Chronicles of Druss The Legend (David Gemmell), Virtual Mode, On A Pale Horse, For Love of Evil, And Eternity,(Piers Anthony) I Am David (childhood fave by Anne Holm), Microserfs (Douglas Coupland), Gates of Fire (Steven Pressfield), The Firebrand (Marion Zimmer Bradley).

Top Five Favorite Series (again, not in order): Incarnations of Immortality, Virtual Mode, Bio of a Space Tyrant (Anthony), Waylander (Gemmell), A Song of Ice and Fire (George RR Martin).

When did you start writing: So long ago I don't even remember. Even before I could write I was always making up and acting out stories.

What started your love for the craft of writing: It developed naturally out of my love of reading.

Do you have anything published: Not yet. But then, I've never submitted anything. Definitely will have something published in the future though.

The Best advice you can give an up-and-coming author: Don't think it's going to be easy and breezy, because it's not! It's totally gruelling, frustrating, annoying, emotional, but easily one of the most rewarding things you can do!

Where do you read and write, and for how long: Well I've recently discovered that my childhood affliction of getting motion sick on every type of transport has subsided a bit, and I can now read on the train, which is awesome, because my new job is 50 mins away by train. So that's a lot of reading time every day! Otherwise I just pick up a book when I feel like it, usually in bed or on the lounge. As for writing, I have a little area set up in my apartment, even though my place is tiny, it's just half of the breakfast bar that separates my lounge from my kitchen, but it's next to the window with a view of the little garden outside, and I always have fresh flowers there and a little framed photo of Piers Anthony that says "What would Piers do?" lol! I made them for everyone for Xmas featuring their heroes, and they went down a treat! My older sister has Buffy, my little sis has Veronica Mars, and my bro-in-law has Al from Deadwood!

What is your favorite writing beverage: Peppermint tea.

In one word describe how writing makes you feel: Whole.
