What comic books/graphic novels are you reading at the moment?

I've also finished Death Vigil https://www.comixology.co.uk/Death-Vigil-Vol-1/digital-comic/297269 which I also (even more strongly) recommend reading. It's a modern twist on the whole "Death wears a cape and carries a scythe" angle, although in this one she also carries an mp3 player. The series is rather unique in that by the end not only does it wrap up the main plot-line but it also presents a very key sub-plot that is not resolved at all. Most series like to wrap it all up; this one leaves you hanging and waiting for the next series of comics. It's got some upbeat humour mixed with some dark characters and some twisted individuals. A lot of fun to read!

So so so very much seconded recommendation. For those unsure, it is up on DA under nebezial for free (posted by the author) so you can check it out. It should be added that the universe seems to be somewhat inspired by Cthulhu Mythos.

IIRC the Death-Vigil comic was a Web comic for a while

Well, not really. Šejić intended to publish it all along through a publishing company, but he posted previews and some pages on his nebezial deviantArt account. For a while, he didn't post chapters in entity on his deviantArt account, but afterwards, he decided to post them and readers can choose to support him of their own volition. Thus, all 8 chapters are on deviantArt.

Neat I didn't know that! I found it by the Humble Bundle deal on TopCow stuff as the first issue was one of their daily free comics. I hope all who can head over and read it for free get a chance to buy and support; the comic is very solid work and it would be great to help support the artist and hopefully get a second series!

Here is the link to author's account. nebezial.deviantart.com There are also many previews of other work such as Ravine and Switch.

@Overread I would really recommend you to check out Switch and if you aren't very averse to slice of life stories, check out Sunstone on Šejić's other DA profile, shiniez.deviantart.com

Anushka I've actually got both from the Humble Bundle deal (sadly ended now) and I'm slowly working through some (it was mostly Witchblade and - well - that series gets kinda complicated with how it all interlinks with each other - esp as the bundle started at issue 80 :p )

Aye, from what I've read Switch is a sort of "alternate dimension" take on the Witchblade universe whilst Ravine is its own thing. I'll have to get to them; though I recently jumped into comics since I've not had as much patience for epic novels as of late so I've worked up a nice backlog (its not my fault - its these writers making 1001 different series dotted all over the place- already got Red Sonja and Witchblade as huge series to collect up and read through - alongside wanting to dip into Conan, Spawn and others - thankfully I'm avoiding the DC/Marvel superheroes as they take the whole "reboots" and multiple re-imagining things to extreme lengths far beyond what I'd be comfortable with. No problem with short story arcs and the like that they put out as well - I just don't fancy their stupidly complicated universe series comics

I can so relate to DC/Marvel Multiverse conundrum. I prefer to just read some short stories. I recommend Old Man Logan as one like that. It's a nice standalone to be read. Book of Doom too. Lately, when it comes to comics, I'm more oriented towards manga.

just found the following which seem quite interesting and well drawn...

And currently reading/read;

Child of the Storm - read and heartily recommend reading it (check out my other current thread for a bit more)
High Moon Vol1 the collected edition - quirky read here with werewolves and creatures of the night! A fun read for anyone with a fondness for the wild-west werewolves and steam punk! rather a shame it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger - would love to read more and would really suit short one-issue adventures as part of a long series.

I took a whirl on this new comic and let me say it was WELL worth it! Fantastic open to a new series and I really hope it does well - go check it out it will be more than worth your time and money. First issue is triple size and really lets it get the story going well!

Night of 1000 wolves - gotta get a wolfy book in some time! Twisted curses and werewolves and magic and people under siege! A bloody tale and a nice all in one story!

The Ring of the Seven Worlds - its only 4 comics long but packs a lot into it! Fantastic fun and the story gets a very twisty near the end (although I get the impression that the writers planned for more by the way the slower pacing suddenly ramps up the speed a lot to get things into the last book - never the less it paces out well and the twists at the end leave the mind reeling and wanting to go back and re-read the spot all the little clues

Currently reading
Soulfire - check out comixology too as they've a bundle sale on the first 4 volumes of this series as well as 4 more bundles on other major series like Fathom! Well worth getting into right now! https://www.comixology.co.uk/Aspen-Essential-Sale/page/8808

Currently in the middle of CAPTAIN KEN, v2; interesting how Lamp is actually a villain, but with a code of ethics. Also, just received Shigeru Mizuki's HITLER. Actually, I spend quite a bit of time transcribing data from a 6 volume set of TEZUKA CHARACTER GUIDES. google & Babylon do the translations, though both leave much to be desired.

just getting to the end of volume 1 - Copperhead. A cliched phrase but it's a 'space western'. Really enjoying it. Will shortly be moving on to Batman vs Dracula

Copperhead01_Cover.jpg

Waylander I also picked up Copperhead Vol 1 in the sales - Must say I'm enjoying it too! Captures the western feeling quite well for a sci-fi based story and I'm looking forward to reading more! I just hope it maintains that western feel to it without getting lost in the sci-fi; though thus far its doing a sterling job of keeping the theme.

I got an iPad and a Marvel Unlimited subscription around this time last year so I've been steadily reading through all of the major storylines from my favourite Marvel characters from their origins onwards (mixing in issues from the Ultimate universe for variety), reading a few issues each day on my commute. I've just hit the start of the 90s with Acts of Vengeance , and Ultimatum in the Ultimate universe.

Been dipping into a few myself recently too:

The Zoo Hunters by Aspen comics - good fun thus far as a new series with the premise really letting the artists show off with unique creatures and beasties. At the same time the story wastes not a moment in establishing a gritty story; surprisingly almost no "safe happy period" is established and the very start is already bittersweet.

Tokyo Ghost - good artwork that really fits with this futuristic world. It's a bit like Ghost in the Shell in how it predicts the future; however this is a world where consumerism and "the net" has really gone to extreme ends with people stuck "plugged in". It's got a "serious anime" vibe to it in the way characters act and how action plays out. I also like that the quality of the cover matches the content of the comic. Another new series and one I am eager to read more of

now just ripping through Amulet - nicely drawn and lighthearted but maybe more for early teens?
