What comic books/graphic novels are you reading at the moment?

I'm reading Trigun MAXIMUM. It'd a sci-fi set in a human colony on a barren planet and follows Vash the Stampede, a man labeled as a Typhoon level disaster.

Comixology has added a boatload of manga over the last week - including big series like Full Metal Alchemist and the Ghost in the Shell series (including the original manga which I've got my eye on - been meaning to read it since seeing the film)

Last week I read Monstress volume 1, Awakening, by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda. Beautifully drawn and imagined fantasy, with a 90%-plus female cast (including the rulers) and which despite the presence of cute multi-tailed talking cats, doesn't stint on the violence and horror. Very much recommended, and surprisingly cheap (£8.99 in UK for a lot of pages and high production values).

Hare I've enjoyed reading Monstress as well - been getting it issue by issue but I stopped reading a while back but kept buying - mostly because I want to go through start to finish in one long sitting to read the whole story and not have to wait (esp as they had a long pause in issue releases after they got the volume 1 content out).

Just finished reading DC Bombshells, vol. 1: Enlisted. I really liked it. :) The art is stunning and it was interesting seeing how different DC heroines wind up entering the fray of WWII.

This weekend I read Birthright, Vol. 1, Homecoming. I liked it! :) For a story that some people might expect to be a generic "kid taken to another world" sort of tale it actually has some good surprises to it. (For the record: I, myself, do not mind stories where the main character travels to another world, I just know some people who tend to snub them as being "all the same.")
It seems like it will turn out to be a good epic fantasy, with interesting fantasy races and worldbuilding. I think the writer knows his fantasy tropes well and enjoys playing with them, like "Oh, you thought this was going to be predictable? Think again, sucka!" :p

Just recently finished reading Jupiter's Legacy, volume 1.
I liked it. :) It's about superheroes with vastly different opinions of how they should be using their powers. Some of them really just want to help people, others want to improve the world by controlling the people they are trying to help, some just want power, and others only want to live their lives and keep their family safe.
It was a lot more violent than what I thought it was going to be. Not that that is a bad thing, just surprised me is all.

Well that's weird; I finished this a couple of days ago and came here to post a question that I thought might get me ridiculed on the Mark Miller site. Maybe you can answer it (scroll over the hidden text below):

As I understood it, the original (small) group of super heroes were created after going to the island and were transformed by aliens. I thought these were the only super powers (who later had kids who also had super powers).

My question is; where did all those other super powered people come from? At one point there’s this big battle and there seems to be loads of them. Were they all the children of the original group?

Thanks!

(Great book by the way (and beautiful art) I'm looking forward to the follow up.)

I read a bunch of Chew at the weekend. Vol 5-7.

I love the art in this series and all the weird food based powers.

Ya know, I honestly hadn't even thought about that, but you bring up a very good point. I'm not really sure. Maybe it is something they will explain later on in the series?
That is pretty funny though that we both just read this. :) I agree, it was very good and the art was wonderfully done. If you do wind up asking on the Mark Miller site I'd love to know what you find out because I never really would have thought to question that before but now I can't stop thinking about it. lol

No...you ask! You've got a much cooler name than me so they might be nicer ;)

It might be answered in the Jupiter's Circle books which are set in between the visit to the island and Jupiter's Legacy. I'm tempted by those as well but the art doesn't grab me and that's half the thing with comics for me so I'll probably give them a miss (and so still be none the wiser).

Oh what the hell...Miller site here I come.
