Addicted!

Just thought I would add a more serious note to this thread, to see if others have give this some thought.

How many of us get into debt because of our addiction?

I personally am hard with myself and will manage what little spare cash I have. However, there have been times I've ordered books when I know I can't really afford to do it.
I only work PT, so I have a budget of £15 a month to spend on books. One of the reasons why I try and find the best prices:D
But there is always that terrible temptation isn't there, when a new book comes out and you just have to have it.

But to be so diciplined is very hard:eek: It really is a struggle at times.

So what does everyone else do? Do you let yourself get into debt? Or do you try and control your spending? Or are you lucky and it doesnt matter?

Getting into debt by buying books, nope, but addiction can work other way around also. At some point, I managed to buy about 2 years worth of reading material in advance, and now have trouble getting through it as I’m constantly buying new books as well. Of course I should stop buying new books, but sometimes you just see books, that you just have to have ;)
It also makes really hard to determine, what book to read next, as there are too many possibilities.

I also want to buy lots of books that I feel I just have to add to my collection. I found when I reduced my working hours, I needed to have a little more restraint. There are still loads of books I want, but I tend to keep my To Read Pile, of new books, down to about 20. Makes it slightly easier to pick the next book and also stops me from going silly money spending wise. :D
This works as long as there isnt a sale on at Amazon or the Fantasy Book Club

Back when our family was young and we were totally strapped for cash, most everything came out in mass market sooner or later, and those little paperbacks were really quite cheap, so buying them wasn't much of a burden.

Nowadays, books are so expensive, yes, I'm afraid that I do spend too much money on them sometimes. But the internet makes so many books available that one could never get one's hands on before ... the temptation, the temptation! Even buying OP books used (and in some cases incredibly low-priced) by the time you add in the shipping and handling, it can cost more than the books themselves. When I buy books from overseas -- as I find myself doing more and more often these days, the beginning of an addiction in itself -- it very often does cost more for the shipping than the books.

(shaking my fist) Darn those British authors!!!

Lucky you, if you can exercise that kind of control. I honestly tried to keep myself from buying any more books, until I get the to read pile down to manageable size, but failed at it miserably. The current state is that I have 154 novels to read :(. Oh well, at least I have vacation coming soon maybe I can make that pile a little smaller.

I fell of the wagon! I went to buy some stationery yesterday at a book warehouse that sells mostly school books and YA books. Unfortunately some authors writing YA series have made their way onto my favourite pile. So, yep I got my stationery and also 4 books
The only consulation is that the warehouse knocks 15% off the book price :D (thank goodness for small mercy's).
I am not definately spent up for the month, and won't be buying anymore books. I hope! :D

I'm not even gonna start listing what I own and what I'm waiting for...My jusband and I are incapable of walking into our bookshop and leaving without at least two books every few weeks...
