Any other artists / writers here?

hi hi... just upload some sketches, then. :)

i often find sketches more interesting than finished works because sketches take you more into the heart of the creative process.

I do computer art, not pen/pencil art. In fact, I haven't actually done any real sketching since high school, which is almost inexcusable. :/ Even with computer art, I've been too lazy to learn photoshop properly, so most of what I make (using paint shop pro, haha) happens to be rather blah.

I guess I joined to dabble, too. I wish I could draw, I really do, as it would make filing my characters soo much easier, but alas, I cannot. I'm a major writer, I started writing small trilogies and such when I was seven. I published my first *proper* book last year, and am now working on the second installment of that trilogy.
I am also currently writing a fantasy book. I don't know if it will be one novel or two, or maybe three... who knows? I seem to have an incurable inability to just write one book!
I joined really to speak to like-minded fantasy readers. I've not had a go at any science-fiction just yet, but I'll probably have a go. I mean, I never thought I'd write fantasy. I've hardly read any, that's my friend's area. Actually, truth be told, I'd much rather write the stuff than read it, but I'd like to get to know other fantasy readers and cater to their whims, so to speak. ^_^ I don't want to annoy anyone by writing twaddle.

Then again, the rate's the plot's progressing, spiralling crazily out of control and SO far from the original idea it's laughable, anything can happen.
Guess I'll just have to see what happens.

I like the look of this website and hope for many more enjoyable posts.

Toodles!

:D

I'm a musician/writer... does that count?

Feel free to check out my tunes HERE...

And in an interview recently, I was asked about the synergies between writing tunes and fiction... that's HERE...

I love art though I can't really draw anything even if my life depended on it. I got into reading as a child thorugh comics and that probably had a lot to do with my fascination with art. I love good artwork though and I must say Curt that I absolutely loved your artwork - especially the orcs one :)

Oooh, really like your artwork too Commonmind :) That's the kind of thing that I wish I could draw!

Haven't looked at anybody elses artwork yet but will do so - I promise!

As for me, I mostly write. That early grounding in comics also had me enthralled with stories and the process of creating them. Always wanted to write but except for a lot of non-fiction (I had several newspaper columns and a couple of magazine columns over the years) I never got into writing stories till a couple of years ago. I finished my first novel about a year or two ago and was trying to get it published for a while but the process gets too complicated when you are not in the UK or US. So I ended up self-publishing it via Lulu as a free e-book. If somebody reads it and enjoys it, that is enough for me :) Oh yeah, the book is at:
Honest, the Martian Ate Your Dog by Fahim Farook (Book) in Science Fiction & Fantasy

Incidentally, I did the cover myself (it shows, huh? :p) I am totally happy with the end result but I did do the graphic in Carrara by putting all the elements together and then did the text and stuff in Adobe InDesign. Some of the elements are not totally centered but I might do a revision to fix that if it bugs me enough :)

Thanks Fahim and as I've perused your site, congrats to some great life accomplishments.

Thanks Commonmind :) Honestly didn't think I've achieved much since writing in Sri Lanka is like being a small fish in a small pond - you just appear to be big because the pond is small :p

Incidentally, I meant to say that I'm "*not* totally happy with the end result" rather than the reverse - must be my subconcious or something ...

Hi Fahim:

Thank you for your generous comments about my work! And many congratulations on your book: the quirkiness of the plot description is quite a charm! Are you currently working on anything else? Take care.

Absolutely deserving I assure you :) I enjoy detailed and beautiful artwork and yours was both.

Thank you :) The novel's actually part of what I call a spiral - it isn't really a story arc but there's other tales which sort of spiral out from the events in this book. I started work on one of the books in the spiral but then another story (a prequel actually) grabbed hold of me and so I began work on the prequel. I got about 20,000 words in and then work and other stuff conspired to drag me away from writing. Must get back to it soon though ...
