Guilty Pleasure Books: Tell us yours

My guilty pleasure is modern mystery/thrillers, even some good ones written by Harlan Coben and Michael Connelly. But reading the classic ones is just pleasure, no quilty.

I have to say that I never feel guilty about anything I read. If I like it then it doesn't matter about how anyone else reacts.

To joinn in the thread through I am trying to pick a topic.....
chick lit, mills & boon, porn...any suggestions as to what I could say just so I'm not left out

I'm a proud fan of harry potter books but feel rather guilty when reading Artemis Fowl (serie!) by Eoin Colfer.

And I'm planning on reading "the wish list" too... :p

Many years ago ahem cough, cough. when my son was quite young and
he mentioned Wind in the Willows, Great I will get him a copy it was a 1979 hardback published by Methuen,so on my next trip home I had it with me said to my son I have a book for you The Wind in the Willows, it's Ok Dad I have seen the video.Arrgh but he did go to read quite a lot later on, as I had read it as a child and really enjoyed it.

So I read it again still thought was a good piece of escapism, now the guilty part William Horwood brought out four Willows books and I bought them as well  last one was in 1999.

When my Grandson is old enough maybe he will like the Wind in the Willows as I have every intention of getting him Where's my Coo By Pterry. :)

The King of Guilt

A very long lasting guilty pleasure of mine has been Stephen King novels. Don't get me wrong: I think some of his stuff is legitimately good, but, after a few rounds of "heavier" reading, I settle back and throughly enjoy any of his many, many novels I have yet to read, poor examples or not, on an equal level.

I just can't keep up with that man, though. He writes and writes and writes and....

Mine are romance novels and modern thrillers. I get them from the rental bookstore and binge on them.

I also have two shelves of them at home. I don't read them all the time and can go for months without sometimes. But then I'll suddenly feel like reading them and read nothing else for several days. Definitely a guilty pleasure.

My guilty pleasure are Spy/action thrillers. Not the good ones of course like Barry Eisler,Robert Ludlum.

Ones like Tom Clancy and some of his books even though i dont like his style i like some of the books.

My biggest guitly pleasure are Jan Guillou and his Carl Hamilton books about the swedish James Bond.

I'd probably say my guilty pleasure is Piers Anthony and Ayn Rand - just because how much people seem to enjoy putting those two down :p

If reading Piers makes you guilty, I am so going to prison.. (hopefully some sort of cool futuristic prison on Mars or similar)

So it’s confession time, Ok, here we go Bless me father for I’ve sinned : I have read with great gusto and truly savouring each page the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris, but the worst part is that I can’t wait for the last one to come out (All together dead), what can I say in my defence, either that they were really great fun to read. Sin a little if you wish.

I've never felt guilty reading anything...

But in the spirit of this thread, I'd say Agatha Christie. I love the complex plots, even if I find her characters a bit simplistic and too often following stereotypes.

Omygoodness - I love the Sookie Stackhouse books. They are so .... entertaining.... Not my usual style at all, bu t I love them nontheless.

I'm fond of the Agatha Christie stories, too. As a break from my usual diet of fantasy and historial fiction, I like a good detective novel every once in a while.

Jughead was once a time cop

I forgot to mention my ultimate guilty pleasure, although I don't know if it counts under the scope of the thread thesis. I, from time to time, can't help but pick up an Archie's digest from the local supermarket.

I don't know why, but I think it is largely related to a point in my childhood in which my family had moved back to Minnesota after living a few years in Minnesota. In the old MN house, I had stumbled across a pile of coverless, Archies comics with browned pages. I remember asking my mother about them, and it was fun listening to her describe her memories of the issues.

Have you read his wolves of time? or Duncton wood?

My guilty pleasures as a grown up are kids' books, especially old ones. Roald Dahl is no.1 (though I rate his short stories highly and they're more for grownups anyway). I love the Moomintroll books (translations of!) and the Narnia books, Alice books, the Borrowers, the Jungle Book stories. I think I find the simplicity relaxing .. or maybe I'm just lazy!
