Back in Nottingham.

The British Fantasy Society is proud to announce Fantasycon 2007 for Readers, Writers, Artists and Fans of the Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror genres.
When?

21st - 23rd September 2007
Where?

Britannia Hotel, 1 St James Street, Nottingham

So is Fantasycon a good one to check out for us London-based folk? Anyone? Any independent reviews?
 
Hm, scifi soc at uni is thinking of organising a trip to a convention, maybe this would be a good one.

Yes it is a wellrun convention and good fun,if you are London based you should try out an open night held in a central London pub, check out the web site for the details.

Yes, the open nights are good fun and well worth attending; although, if you're going to come to one, do check the forums, also available via the website at: British Fantasy Society Forum - Index

Details of the last two open nights (venue and times), in December and March, both changed at the last minute. These changes were not mentioned on the main website, which continued to give the original arrangements, but were detailed only within the discussion forums. The December meeting was the first I attended. Had I not checked the forum, quite by chance, on the actual day of the meeting, I would have ended up going to the wrong pub at the wrong time.
 
You can also sign up for the online newsletter for which you don't have to be a BFS member, they send you details about any last minute changes if any in the event moving Etc.

How exciting...get to meet Mr Great One is all his green glory! Woo Hoo!

But will I be meeting any other Chronners, Hoopy wonders? :D
 
Hoopy and Pyan, I look forward to seeing you both there! You can't miss me -- I'm 6'3" tall... and nearly as wide! :D
 
Hoopy I will be there, gave up going to Eurocon but there again it's been a long time since I have missed one probably see you in the dealers room then or the bar.:D
 
Yay! It will be really cool to met both of you, Ian and WWD! I'll have to wear a badge saying "Hi, I'm Hoopy!" :D
 
I will be the old git with long-ish hair and glasses;) :p in disguise using my real name.:eek:
 
And I'll be the loopy teenager, also in glasses, who will very likely be wearing something orange and probably my dinosaur necklace (reminds me of my love of dinosaurs :D)! And also masquerading under a different name! :eek::D

Does the fantasycon have a free bar for three days?

One company sponsors the bar, another puts wine on the table for the meals and a champagne reception on the middle day. Another sponsors the free bottles of water during the day - needed after the free bar the night before!

A couple of years ago we managed to drink the on-site bar dry...

First the tap lager and beer, then the bottled beers and we were working our way through the alcopops at one point....the last one was hard going but we had to try.:p:D

I presented a paper a few years ago - got to bed at 4 am the night before but at least I wasn't on til the 3:30pm slot...got there at 9 to be told that a resuffle had put me on at 10 am instead!
