A GRRM question?

I think a Gemmell fan would like Martin quite a lot. Like Gemmell, Martin doesn't take prisoners and has no problem with putting his characters through hell and back.

His brilliant fantasy-horror book Fevre Dream is also worth reading.

Thanks will add that to the list of fantasy books to read.

Thats how i even heard of GRRM, people said he is not that all diffrent from Gemmell. Someone said something about his style was "manly men with swords" i like that :)

Con..........Like yourself I also love the David Gemells books. I have just discovered ASOIAF and am loving every word of it. I am only on the second book but I have already bought all of the series that has been published so far so that I can read the next books as soon as I finish reading the current one.
The only dissadvantage I have found of starting to read a well established series for the first time is I cannot help reading the posts on here to get a peek at what is comming later in the series and spoiling suprises for myself!!! But I just can't resist.

I just started A Game of Thrones yesterday and can't seem to put it down...And i'm still in the beginning. Even the so-called "slow" beginning you have to get into, I liked from the beginning. Glad I took some of your guys' advice and looked into this series. Anyway, back to the book. :p

I had never heard of GRRM or any of his books and my brother handed me A Game of Thrones one day, and I have thanked him many times since then because its one of my favorite stories of all times. Martin has a way of writing that even allows you to like the villians. For instance you know Tyrion is as heartless as they come but you still like the guy. In fact I think I liked his chapters the most in ASoIaF, others may dissagree but they have the right to, so all I can say is give GRRM a go and start with A Game of Thrones.

On a side note, I love the works of David Gemmell, he really was able to tug at the heartstrings of his readers.

I haven't really heard Tyrion called 'heartless' before. I think his problem is that he has too much heart, and he lacks the detachment that his father possesses and Jaime manages to emulate at times.

Heh Tyrion was actually the one character i liked in AGOT. He was a pretty good guy.

Ya, I agree that Tyrion's chapters were the most interesting. I guess just by the way he thinks and his witt.
