Favorite characters

Lan and Moiraine have always been favourites with me. Also Loial, what a great character he is! So gentle, slow and brave when you think he is only 'young' and is breaking the rules of the Ogier!

My favorite is Perrin because how cool would it be to talk to wolfs and have their abilities. But he was better when he wasn't married to Faile. Also it would be nice to be Mat with his luck and that spear thing he has.

So, I'm going to ignore Matt, because like everyone else here, he's my favorite.

Logain is next in my list though; surprised I haven't seen him mentioned yet.

Nynaeve is next; don't want to give my reasons to avoid spoilers... or are spoilers ok?

my fav is elyas which is weird that no one said that yet cause i see u guys putting perrin pre-faile but elyas is perrin same stuff but better at it and he is good with a sword/knife since he was a warder he also trained lan if ya guys forgot that so he is an obvious choice for people who like lan and people who like perrin but wish they were combined also i like flinn he is the yellow ajah of the asha'man

I'll also have to go with Mat, I know I know, boring choice, but lets face it...the dude is awesome.

Second would have to be Rand. I don't think he's whiny at all. Lets face it, most normal people whine about the most retarded crap in the world, like work, relationships, hang nails etc. Lets see how everybody would do when the got like 5 freakin wounds that won't stop hurting, a mad man talking in your head, and the fate of the entire world on your shoulders. Sure he's got three hot women...but some might say that's 3 more problems ;) I wouldn't say that though haha

Since my last reread, my opinions on one of the main characters has changed. I used to dislike Nynaeve, but now she's one of my favourite characters. She's always looked out for Rand, as is still helping him, despite her own problems.

Perrin has been my favourite so far but i am only up to the fifth book. I have disliked rand al'thor from the beginning.

Yes, I must admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Rand, either, especially in the later books. There are a few lesser characters that I like, too - Hurin the sniffer was one, and from later in the series, Narishma.

Personally, I have to admit that the women in Wheel of Time really get into my nerve, as to a bigger or lesser degree; they are all know-it-all and better. It gets a bit better as the books progress, but I was annoyed out of no end how arrogant Nynaeve, Elayne and Egwene treated Mat when he saved them in Tear. Min is one of the few women I like in Wheel of the Time series (Cadsune is another, oddly, but she has the right to be arrogant :))

SPOILER ALERT

As many others expressed opinion, my favorite character is Matrim Cauthon. He's a troublemaker and a rogue, and I like him for it. He has easy charm, quick wits and despite all, he keeps his word once given. One of the main reasons I like him, is because of his memories and the glimpes you get of the history. I think one of my favorite scenes/relationships is between Mat and Birgitte Silverbow once they find out of each other.

My second would be Rand Al'Thor, and to be frank, I'm a bit suprised by peoples dislike of him. Robert Jordan did a very good job with the change Rand has gone through from Book 1 to 11, he has gone from a stubborn farmer boy who is afraid of girls to the iron willed man who has accepted the weigh of the world on his shoulder. A scene I liked very much was when Rand met Semirhage, and Rand lost his hand and how he accepted it without regret or remorse because there was nothing to do about it. That is purposeful.

I think my third would be Moraine. She annoyed be out of no end the first 3-4 books where I wished she'd die almost every single page she was in, but as the books progressed into the Aiel her character became more deepen and she grew on me. I don't like her as wholly as I like Mat and Rand, but I can admire her strength of character and how she pursue what she thinks is best for the world. I still hate her in the first 3-4 books even when I re-read them though. She is unbearable (much as every other women until book 5).

I must admit, up until tGS, I didn't like the way Rand's character had developed, but seeing how he changed at the end made me rethink my opinion a little (this is coming from someone who preferred Rand the sheepherder to Rand the Dragon Reborn).

And welcome to the Chronicles, Wisshard!:)

Thank you Talysia. :)

I liked Rand the first few books as well, but more so because he went through a character progression (slight at start but growing more into the iron willed man as the story progressed) even as they left the Two Rivers. And I find character change very interesting if the author does it well, and Robert Jordan did. In itself, I found Rand Al'Thor the sheepherder a bit unbelievable, he was a grown man twenty years old but still stammering when talking to girls and easily bullied by women and men alike. But he became better. =)

Every opinion is different. :)

By the way, I'm surprised I didn't see anyone mention Gawyn or Galahad, as well as Elayne. If I were to choose a fourth contender of favorite for myself, it'd be Galahad. His zeal for righteousness and way to do the right thing no matter the cost (including hurting himself) is his major characteristic we've been given, but I like it. Not to mention he appears to have some of the strong will of his half-brother Rand. ;)

Do you mean Galad? I have liked his character so far, much more than Gawyn. I think it is sort of cool that he joined up with the Whitecloaks and didn't remain with gawyn and his 'Younglings'. I also don't understand how Gawyn could be so stupid to kill the Warders that taught him and not oppose Elaida..

I'd love to see the meeting between Rand and Galad, given everything that's happened.

To be honest, though, I wasn't really the biggest fan of Galad at the beginning. Gawyn seemed to be the better character out of the brothers at the start of the series, but his personality changed somewhat after Elaida was raised to the Seat and I wasn't keen on the result. My opinion will likely change, though, when the brothers become aware of exactly who is travelling with Perrin's group...

Which will hopefully be in the next book.:)

Ah yes, I meant Galad. I often associate Galad with the gallant knight Galahad of the King Arthur stories, hence my type. ;)

I can understand how Gawyn felt about Siuans way to treat him before the White Tower broke apart, it's clear from his conversations with Min that he became more and more frustrated and angry with Siuan. There was no reason at all for him to support Siuan instead of Elaida. Siuan obviously saw Elayne as a pawn to use for her own schemes, and Gawyns main interest in his life is to keep Elayne (and Egwene) safe and sound. Not to mention Siuan practically baited him into go against her. She got what she deserved.

Indeed! I've been looking forward to that ever since I learned who Rands mother was, a long wait it has been and it has still not occured.

To be honest, though, I wasn't really the biggest fan of Galad at the beginning. Gawyn seemed to be the better character out of the brothers at the start of the series

I actually liked Galad from the first introduction we were given of him, I've always liked characters who are firm in their principals and will not budge for anything (just as Moraine).

Yes, I see your point here, but to kill the warders? Even if he did support elaida this is not a sensible option. You would think he would have the decency not to kill those who taught him all he knows.

Cadsuane - though didnt like Brendon's take on her as much, he made her seem less an irresistable force and more...weak isnt quite the word...maybe girlie? She seemed dummer and a bit wishy washy. Oh well she still my favourite

Lan and Mat, and Nynaeve and Moiraine.
And I do like Rand as well. :]
Lan and Nynaeve are the greatest couple though.
